I would have thought the more flash memory they put on the iPad/iPhone/iPod the more music/films/apps we'll all download to fill it up thereby generating more iTunes sales for Apple. It's a win-win situation.

Wow! Another iPad? So soon? It seems like a new iPad is out every month. Quad core? So what about ipad1 & 2 owners? I guess they won't have enough processing power for upcoming updates. Oh well, can't wait for the Windows 8 tablets.

I'd rather have a dual-core Cortex-A15 than a quad-core Cortex-A9. Don't care about LTE since I'm just getting the WiFi model. But Retina display will be a huge, huge plus.

I'm guessing you're concerned about potential battery life?

Available Friday the 9th?? Maybe? Please?

So you think. But you're not building it are you? So you can't really say which you'd want, since you haven't tested the product with both processors as Apple undoubtedly has. Can you?

You're just comparing how you assume one chip would perform in an iPad vs. another.

You must stay in really nice hotels. I find that Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden, etc. all offer free WiFi (of varying quality). The Sheratons, et al pretty much charge for WiFi. Odd. The pricier the hotel the fewer amenities they offer.

I stay at Marriott (company policy that I have to if there is one within 10 miles of my destination), and they rarely offer free wifi. There are occasional ones that give me wifi due to my Marriott Rewards account, but even then most of them don't seem to do it. Definitely agree that the pricier the hotel is, the fewer amenities though. A cheap Marriott may have free wifi or a free breakfast, but the expensive ones just about never do. I don't get it.

I usually go to Vegas, other than flights and hotels being cheap, all the extra's cost more. Including internet.

Agreed. I went to Vegas last week and was surprised that just about none of the hotels offered free wifi. The ones that did offer them for free in the lobby only.

I expect the iPad 3 to be a step backward in terms of performance.

The iPad 1 was already too slow and lacked enough memory (256MB).
The iPad 2 was only marginally faster and initially 512MB RAM was enough until iOS5 came out which used far too much that now 512MB is too little.

The iPad 3 may get the new quad-core processor but a hi resolution display is going to (I expect) tax the processor chronically resulting in the device probably performing on par or slightly better with the iPad 2. Apple, we can expect, will use the lowest amount of RAM and when iOS 6 comes along the iPad 3 will be back to poor performing like the iPad 2.

The current iPad 2 needs a massive hardware performance increase to put it beyond the needs of iOS software before any further hardware taxing demands are added like the hi resolution displays.

I would be surprised if it were the 9th based off the iPad 2, which they announced on Wednesday and released the next Friday, and the 4S which was released on a Tuesday and released the following Friday.

I also think they need a large number of customers to buy their devices on the internet for the sheer fact that their stores literally could not handle the volume. Sure they enjoy people buying in store and then spending more money on a case and accessories, but I don't think their stores could handle it. If they actually announced on Wednesday, there is no way that they could handle pre-orders that arrived by Friday, and thus would absolutely flood their stores. Their system isn't perfect right now, but I think it works pretty well for number of customers.

Yes, a whole year is sooooooo soon....

Fail troll is fail.

Enjoy your Windows 8 tablets.

Here's something I read before.

Coding can be done quite feasibly on a thin client (ie: an iPad), just grab the external keyboard and you're set to go.

Yah...I sorta agree....after looking at that coding even seems feasible.

I was planning on skipping iPad 3...but if it really is quad core + retina I'm not sure if i'll be able to.

Also, i'm going to call it here...Aperture for iPad. With iPad 3 I think Apple will start positioning iPad as more of a professional device. At least in the creative realm. Photo management/editing on iPad right now is pretty weak.

I think it makes sense, as iPad 2 came out with GarageBand/iMovie. Final Cut is still a bit too heavy weight, but as far as pro apps go Aperture is the most lightweight of the crew (Final cut has a bunch of video tracks going simultaneously, similarly with Logic), and would be the best way to show off the gorgeous new display.

Great, looking forward to what the next iPad has to offer! I too was thinking about passing up on this one since I have the original one and it works great still. Anyways, it'll be interesting to see what will make the next iPad a must have device. Apple always does a great job giving me a reason to upgrade, let's see if this time is no different. Hopefully there will be a MBP refresh soon too since it seems like theyre no longer working on the Mac pro!

YES! been waiting to upgrade from the first iPad. i've got friends and relatives already asking me if they can have my old iPad.

Iam pretty excited about it however I was hoping bestbuy would have maybe a trade in program for the iPad2 I bought mine at bestbuy so that would be pretty cool
