Did you find that the iPhone 4 was better than the 4S?

I found that there was no difference in the vast majority of day to day use between the two. Yes, the camera was slightly better, but Siri is a vitually worthless gimmick and the processor upgrade was undetectable to my eyes.

I felt that having the difference in money between the two models was preferable to having a very slight camera upgrade on my iphone.

Predictable: If the iPad 3 has killer HD+ screen, faster proc, more RAM, Siri compatibility, upgraded camera(s), BT 4.0, plus LTE option BUT comes in a nearly identical enclosure as the iPad 2 many here will still regard it as a "boring," or "worthless," update.

Maybe he found that the 4S didn't worth the extra bunch of money compared to the iPhone 4. I am at the same opinion. The 4S is a killer update for 3G/3GS owners, because it has all the awesome features of the i4, and even more. But as for the iPhone 4 owners, the 4S can't show up such a big advantage, that would worth paying the same price again for almost the same phone, actually. It's especially true for non-american people who can't take advantage of most of Siri's functions. As a matter of fact the user experience of using a 4S is quite the same as using an iPhone 4. I'm not saying that you shouldn't swop the 4 to 4S if you can afford it. But for the "not so rich" people it doesn't certainly worth the extra money, IMHO. :)

Why do all the prototypes I see posted over the last few years look like they have been dragged along concrete? Does Apple really test if the iPad screen is rock proof?

A lot of the Apple haters go off this. If the design is not different it sucks even though they would say it sucks if the design is different. They don't realise one thing and that is even the iPhone1 design beats their competitor product.

Here's hoping Apple has secretly developed an impossible leap in technology, and the pixels on the iPad 3 are no larger than a single photon. Now that would be truly amazing.

In all seriousness, though, retina displays are really nice. I'm hoping there's something more to it than just DPI this time around. Hopefully it uses significantly less power, while being brighter, and the colors are better too.

Good to see some iPad rumors finally, instead of the endless parade of iPhone 6 stuff.

I bet they will do anti glare stuff

If it were any thinner it'd be two dimensional :p

"iPad Air"

I hope Apple pays you for that idea :p

i hope it has a lit apple logo and a way for people to tell i have an ipad 3 while i pretend to use it at starbucks

...my iPad 1 screen is perfectly fine for everything that it does.

At some point in mid march it will not appear to be so.

Me, I'm practically frothing. I use my iPad 1 every day and in the office I see a lot of folks with the iPad 2, which seems to have a slightly nicer screen. Mainly I read on my iPad and bringing the text up to another level in terms of crispness will improve my experience significantly, I think. Also the pictures will of course look better. And for the occasional game, the better processor will make a difference. I'm not sure if streamed video will look better because that is generally limited by the data source.

I'm so ready for this. I'm going for 3G (LTE if they have it, but I haven't heard that rumor) and 32GB. I continue to feel that one can get by on the 16GB, but I like not having to worry about storage space.

You mean like the iPhone 4S which broke records for all the carriers?

+1
Put me down as wanting it to look like and be the same size. The exterior design is perfect and I want it to fit in my WaterField cases.

I just have to smartass here, because this actually hurt...

Check your math 101 again, division by 0 is a lot of things, but not infinity.

Don't need to. The very first thing you do in calculus is limits. One of the first things you learn is the limit of a/b where b approaches 0. That limit is infinity. Similarly, in this case, a is any level of luminance and b is the blackness level. As b approaches 0 (true off), the contrast ratio becomes infinite.

Thank you, both replies make perfect sense.

i'm kind of hoping the sizes stay the same--it'd be great to not have to buy a new backcover and front screen protector.

"Truly Amazing" it may be, but for textbooks, magazines, standard full-size PDFs and business, the screen must be more like 13" diagonal.

Unfortunately, Samsung will likely be the first to bring a larger-size tablet.

The 2X higher resolution screen sounds awesome, but I'm a little worried that this will lead to a price increase of the iPad 3. It's a big jump to double the resolution at 10.1" and a big jump to go from high resolution 3.5"-4" screen to 10.1".

Manufacturing costs and yields may dictate a price increase for Apple to maintain profit margins. My sheer speculation that the base iPad 3 would start at $599, although with 32GB. Most of the time, Apple offers the new model for the same price as the prior model, but at least twice they haven't (Mac Mini at $599 and iPod touch 3rd Gen at $299).

The low end model will likely be the iPad 2.

Waiting for the iPad 3 since I already have it selling the first generation one :) can't wait for the 3 and excited about the quad core processor if that is true

You mean the iPad 3 will look just like the iPad 2, except with a better screen and upgraded specs?! If it looks the same, it's not a true upgrade. I'm going to wait for the iPad 4..... lol. Yes, I am being sarcastic, and yes I am making fun all everyone who used this exact thought process to belittle the iPhone 4S.

I can't wait for the iPad 3! :)

However, unlike the issues with the iPhone 4/4S, it's really hard to improve on the design of the current iPad 2 itself. That's why most speculation that the iPad 3 will look almost like the iPad except for the new high-resolution screen and new internals are probably true. Hopefully, Apple sees it fit to improve the Wi-Fi antenna, though (the iPad 2's sensitivity is not that great, as I found out at my brother's house when it has difficulty finding the Wi-Fi signal more than 25 feet from the router).

Did you find that the iPhone 4 was better than the 4S?

They're really one in the same, like updated Macbooks. Apple is trying to make the product life last longer. A year is just too short. You can't keep reinventing the phone year on year on year.

Hey, ...I like Siri... :)

But if it has the same enclosure how will my friends and neighbors know I'm better than them, and make a lot more money?

Apple, or any company, could put freaking alien technology into an old enclosure and people would still complain. I actually liked that the 4S was in the same box. People have to second guess before they ask me "CAN I C IT?!" and that's ok with me.

If the iPad 3 is in the same enclosure but has even half these rumors bring it on. I don't spend too much time looking at the back of the thing, and the front is virtually all screen.

As for the 1mm thicker rumor- if you can tell the difference without a measuring device I wold be very surprised. Every company is obsessed with making their devices smaller/thinner, and I get why, but at some point you have to figure you are sacrificing specs for appearance. The current iPad is super thin, if it never got any thinner I wouldn't be upset, as long as the specs increase over time.
