iPad 3 Unlikely to Come This Year?

It would be nuts to up the release rate
If Apple were to have a 6 month update schedule for the iPad they would sell fewer. Prospective buyers would always feel that a better product was just around the corner and so wait those extra few months. Or they would purchase the current model only to feel regret soon after as their prized tablet becomes out of date. Buyer remorse would reign. One of Apples marketing assets is that people feel secure in what they buy. A faster release scedule would undermine that.

Loosing the home button would be nuts
The home button is part of the mechanism for escaping crashes so it would be a bit dumb to have the means of escape software based' ie touch.Also it is useful for device orientation. Further, it is part of the iconic design. Were it to be lost the iPad would like like any other generic slab. I would be amazed and dissapointed if it turned out you were right on that one.

They can always bring the home button to be a side button. Theres no need for it to take space in the front of the iPad. They could utilize the space with a thinner border and bigger screen without increase the size of the iPad.

"Hmmm let's make the iPad 2, and start rumors of iPad 3. If #2 doesn't sell, then we'll unleash #3. Otherwise, we'll unleash #3 next year"

I dunno... Some of the previous rumors that had predicted a 2011 calendar year release had basically considered all the general and speculative points that the article posted today makes. Apple is known to deviate from once a year cycles, and this year both the iPhone and iPad have been rumored at odd times. I find it more plausible that the iPhone is released in the fall and the iPad 3 is a few months later. At any rate, I find the whole idea that Apple would seriously be trying to get its parts from Samsung's supplier (allegedly) rather imaginative.
It's really an open question. Apple likes surprises. Everyone saying "duhhhhh" and the like if anything sets the scene for Apple putting the jump on its competition, especially if they can one-up competitors' holiday releases. I wouldn't be so quick to say "duh" here. That term should be reserved for matters of fact, not speculation, because it's like saying something is obvious... and product releases from Apple are not obvious, duh.
Why would iPad 3 come out any sooner than next year? That would be totally stupid if they released it soon.
I swear some of these rumors are nothing but a mole hunting expedition by Steve and company to handle security leaks inside Apple. Considering some of the directors and VPs over at Apple have Intelligence Community connections, this does not surprise me one bit. Curious what those in the current IC are doing instead of these reindeer games.
doh! there goes my plans to get the iPad 3 sometime in october. i just dont think the iPad 2 is the best it could have been. There are tablets out there with a gig and a half of ram already! what's this 500 megs? nothing! and the 1GHz processor, yes dual core but still. it could have been much better. I do admit the graphics even put the xoom to shame which i love since the xoom wasn't even released at the time.
it is a transition and they just wont admit it to themselves because it sells great. oooh under a centimeter thin. i want one. no. another thing is carbon fiber or even liquid metal unibodies they've been so graciously putting off for years now. i wouldn't mind paying an extra hundred bucks for a liquid metal MBP o iPad. it'd be more than twice the strength of titanium, so yeah, bulletproof notebook, who wouldn't want one? and it'd trim off an extra half pound of weight too. i did notice the .2lb difference in the iPad 2. it was noticeable with only .2lb off. imagine .5lb off instead? yeah.

then let's start something completely ridiculous and see if they react in any way. like say they're making a 7" tablet or an icar. and just see how far it actually goes.
No no, it needs to be tagged right. That can only be done internal. The EFIX on some of these "leaked" photos are quite interesting.
