It's about 3 months to WWDC and there could definitely be an event in April seeing as there were about 3 months between the iPhone and iPad Mini/4th Gen events last fall.

The only thing that worries me is the release of the 128 GB iPad 4 in January...

It is why I went with the 4 rather than keeping the Mini. It took two trials with the Mini to see if I could live with it knowing a new one would be awhile with the last go round I had with it. Well I could but rather not so now with the 4 I easily could wait out Apple's new offerings.

I will be tempted more than likely but unless I feel they offer something I cannot live without, I will not take the plunge. It isn't going to be size and weight. I recently added the Logitech Ultrathin keyboard and the 4 still isn't too heavy! :p

Most April release rumours have been from analysts though. Supplier rumours all seem to point to fall.

I went yesterday to the store to buy a black iPad. The salesman went to look for one because they had only the white one on the shleves. While he was looking for it, I read about the rumor of iPad 5 in April in yahoo news. I didn't buy it.
I will wait a little more

Probably.

Don't see a product event this close to WWDC.

You never know, they make break the tradition and launch the ipads at an earlier event or even at the WWDC. Its no mandatory requirement that a product event can't come at the WWDC or close to it.

Could they just launch in fall again?

It will be too long without a substantial upgrade. It also logically gives the competitors to capture the market with a variety of models and features.

Then why don't they do the same with iphone? That has more competition than ever but they're still on an annual release cycle. Why are they so intent on releasing ipad so often?

They probably have more confidence in the iPhone than the iPad, which makes it (seemingly) necessary to update the iPad more often in order to keep market shares.

You think so? Ipad has a significant proportion of the tablet market compared to iphone which has a much smaller proportion of the smartphone market.

There are limitations to how much can be done on a phone. On the other hand, tablets are considered to be computer replacements and ppl expect alot more. There is also more things they can do with bigger screen..better processing ability..etc.

The iPhone helped reshape the smart phone industry but then again there are many things ppl are not willing to pay for and thus a broader range of phones is necessary with different features, omissions and price points.iPhone doesnt cater to all those categories as of now.

On the other hand..the tablets face competition within the same segment and from new tech laptops..desktops and other computing devices, thus it needs to be upgraded more more frequently than mobiles.

Although personally speaking..apple is trying to slightly up the tempo this year with slightly earlier launch dates compared to 2012.

If this happens, Tim Cook really has doubled down on product secrecy. We haven't seen any leaks pointing to March/April, only analyst predictions.

Not necessarily. Usually we dont see leaks that can be specific . usually its rumours that prove to be right. We are hearing enough analyst remarks regarding the prototypes and their experience with it.even case makers have pushed the case for a june-july launch. We did see pictures of the backpanels and cases..and even some sites claiming the actual reductions in the size of device.

Now its the matter of waiting it out till the invites go out for the event.

As for his secrecy doubling, has not really wrked cause iphone5s internals have leaked out in a rather systematic manner to start with. Their other plans are also out in the open

But aren't product launches normally more predictable?

In typical fashion, we would base it on the events of the previous years. Even so, there has been occasional changes to the schedule. These changes are usually echoed by the analysts a bit in advance and the result is the accuracy of their predictions in light with the actual event. Occasionally yes, it leaks out through location booking details, the place being dressed up for the event, etc. We do have occasions where we analysts do predict it quite accurately.

i personally think apple should change up it's release schedule for it's products. i remember watching an interview with t. cook on cnbs and him discussing why sales of the iphone 4s slowed so much in Q3 and he said it was because consumers knew the iphone 5 was coming out. from a business perspective, apple should be more unpredictable so the average joe doesn't know when exactly to spend his money. if you look at apple's release schedule since cook's statement, apple has done that to a certain extent. in addition, it also helps keep the competition guessing.

Well,

That seems like what they are doing doesn't it? Do you know when the next ipad is coming out? Do you think the "average Joe" does? MIT has been speculated injustice this tread as in April, May, June, July or in the fall.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple are deliberately spreading rumours about release in varying months to confuse people. It's already amazing how they've managed to keep people guessing just by releasing an ipad in November. Had they released in March as usual, people would have guessed March next year again but just by releasing in November, they've managed to create rumours from March - November. People were convinced of March, now they're convinced of April with the occasional Summer and fall rumours thrown in and I'm sure if we don't see an ipad in April, people will start saying May. Their strategy is incredible.

These are the 3RD Gen ipads, NOT the newer 4th Gen. They're getting rid of old stock, that's all.

It's obvious through Apple's product launches that we'll be seeing a redesigned iPad 5 during the fall season (at the earliest).

Only ipad 4 owners want to wait.

The majority are ready for a new ipad.

The iPad has looked the same since the iPad 2 besides the retina display. A new iPad should be released sooner rather than later just to reignite the spark. I hope its only feature is not an iPad mini case.

I was hoping to see the mini Retina in April.

Android has spoiled me and can't stand my 5G touch.

Funny most of what I see on this thread is when the new IPAD is coming out, I did not see much regarding what is new.

Does anyone have any rumors about what is new on the next IPAD that will make it worth upgrading..?
