Seriously. Has anyone had the wrong iPad delivered or picked up?
It would be kinda funny if Apple snuck some iPad Air 1s into the Air 2 boxes just to see if people are noticing.

Curious to know at retail stores where some associates don't even know the difference between iPads and galaxy tabs let alone iPads.

That is a more serious issue, seeing how the Air 1 and Air 2 will both continue to be offered. I can already see the faces of the sales "experts" at Best Buy when they are trying to figure out if they are holding an Air 1 or Air 2 box.
"Wait... it says in the system we're out of stock... but I have a box here... well, here you go, let me scan that... no, the price seems wrong... is it on sale or something perhaps... uh... let me get my supervisor..."

Well lets say you were a non technical person, watched part of the Apple exhibition, read about the New Air 2 and did not realize it was not out and asked for one from a shop, as they air2 was not out they may ship the one they have from stock now.

Not everyone is knowledgeable about these things.

Even more confusing, the old names are no longer valid. Apple changed the names if you watch their keynote:

Old Name = New Name
iPad = iPad 1
iPad 2 = iPad 2
the new iPad = iPad 3
iPad with Retina Display = iPad 4
iPad Air = iPad Air 1
iPad Air 2 = iPad Air 2

Then we'll have:

The New iPad Air
iPad Air with Retina HD Display
iPad Air 7S
iPad Air 8
The New iPad 7S
iPad 12 with Retina Holographic Display
iPad Hydrogen
iPad Hydrogen 2
iPad One

I am surprised that I still have not gotten my iPad Air 2 and no email indicating shipment either.

I ordered at 8:05AM on October 17 which is very close when they opened.
I was promised delivery Oct 22-24.

Based on previous experience Apple usually underpromises but overachieves.

We shall see.

When you look at the naming conventions overall, it's a bit confusing.

iPad
iPad 2
The new iPad
iPad with Retina display
iPad Air
iPad Air 2

Unless you're an Apple fan, you'd be forgiven for being confused about which device fits where in the family. Even more confusing when you consider "Air" is the name of Apple's low-end laptops, but high-end tablets.

Don't forget size.

MacBook Pro - big laptop
MacBook Air - smaller laptop

iPad Air - big tablet
iPad Mini - smaller tablet

Pretty weird.

Pretty weird.

But then they can release an iPad Pro, so it would be:

MacBook Pro - big laptop
MacBook Air - smaller laptop

iPad Pro - big tablet
iPad Air - smaller tablet
iPad Mini - very small tablet

MacBook Mini anyone ? :)

Maybe that was the intention. Shareholders rejoice. I can see it now. "Holy crap I got the new iPad for $100 off!"

So why have volume buttons since they also have a software solution in Control Center?

Let me guess: someone is going to spin how it makes perfect sense to persist hard buttons for volume but eliminate the hard button for mute... probably even offer an example of how important it is to be able to change volume without having to look at the screen but it's not as important to be able to mute volume without looking at a screen.

There is a mute mechanism in the volume buttons.

Hah, I love all the hate towards the guy in the video... see, because that makes sense. You know, every company sells new products in former packaging, it's totally common!

Here's an idea macfanatics... start putting the blame on Apple and not on the end user.

Don't worry about your precious little company, they'll do fine.

How come everything about Apple's marketing is generally great except for the slogans, like "Change is in the Air"?

Apple never puts numbers on iPad boxes , they just write "iPad" or "iPad Air" , so what's confusing exactly?

Just received mine (well, an hour ago). I upgraded from a 3rd Generation iPad and I would have to say it's well worth the upgrade from that generation. The weight different is similar to the feeling of picking up the iPhone 5 the first time after using the iPhone 4/4S for 2 years. It feels fake and empty, but as soon as you use it you realize it is full of power!

As far as I can tell, in my very limited testing, Safari Tabs do NOT refresh after switching from one to another. This is not to say it doesn't happen at some point, but it hasn't happened for me. Although, I was never one to complain about it before, but I know people want to know.

All in all, I am happy with my upgrade. I feel as if anyone upgrading from a 3rd generation or less to the iPad Air 2 will be pleasantly surprised and overly happy with their purchase.

The dude owns an iPad 2. Let me show you something. It's the iPad 2 box:

Notice something?

True, it's not common for most companies to not print product version numbers on their packaging, but it's common for Apple. And this guy has experienced that at least once before.

Just because it's consistent doesn't mean it's not confusing or optimal. I had the same reaction when I bought an iPad Mini with Retina and there was nothing on the box whatsoever to make sure it was indeed a Retina model. Even the blue shirt was confused.

He's probably more confused when he sees a 2104 Mazda 3 parked next to a 2006 Mazda 3. They both say Mazda 3, but they look totally different. How do you know you're getting the new car when they both say Mazda 3?

And don't get him started on "new and improved" Formula 409? How can it be new and improved, when it's exactly the same formula?

it's the first ipad for alot of people. they order an "ipad air 2" on the website and get an "ipad air" box. i can see how that could be confusing.

The last time I was in an Apple Store there was another customer having problems with an iPhone. He had purchased it a few weeks earlier, but the Genius said according to their records it was out of warranty. A bit further questioning revealed that the customer had purchased a "new in the box" iPhone from an unauthorized dealer over eBay. Apple started the warranty clock when they sold the phone initially, which is understandable.

Caveat emptor.

I pre-ordered within a few minutes of their site coming online after it was down.

At the time of purchase, said 1-2 days delivery.

6 days later, I get a confirmation (today) that it is ready for shipping via TNT, and estimates it will arrive 31st.

So overall, their 1-2 days works out to be 14 days.

Why not just admit 2-3 weeks. So yet again it would have been easier just walking into a shop and buying one, than pre-ordering.

I also ordered within minutes of the Apple store coming online but it did not say 1-2 days delivery. It said: Shipping within 2-4 days and delivery was Oct 22-24.
As I wrote in a previous post, I still do not have an email that it shipped but I do have a Preparing for Shippment. If they ship by tomorrow, I should see it by Friday depending on where they ship from.

I don't understand why anyone would view this guy as stupid, when it's Apple that's is stupid.

If you make a product called the iPad Air, then next year, you release a new model and you as a company call it the iPad Air 2.

Then why as a company would you seal it inside a box with iPad Air written on the outside.

That is the only stupid aspect going on here.

Well, because it is not really called the iPad Air 2. There was the iPad. Then there was the iPad 2 which was called the iPad. Then the iPad 3 came out ant was called, you guessed it, the iPad. The same with the iPad 4. Then there was the iPad Air. Then the iPad Air 2 which is called ....wait for it.....the iPad Air. The same thing with the iPhone now. It's just called the iPhone on the box. Either that or perhaps it's caused by solar flares.

Confusion? Whatever, normal consumers just want the newest iPad. Their having new numbers evey year seems dumb, if it's so frequent.

Their following their naming convention for Macs. It's just iMac, or Macbook.
