What do you mean? Like I say my store had lots of 6s available so I can't think why it would be any different to when I got my 5s.

I don't see what makes the 6 a massive release over the 5s.

No one was going crazy over the 5S compared to the 6 and 6 Plus. The 5s was easily available. It was only the gold version that was a bit limited. 6 was the biggest iphone release "ever"

Also, when you talk about "stores" you are talking about service providers. Others are talking about the Apple Stores that were limited, and thats where people like to go buy them.

https://www.macrumors.com/2014/09/22/iphone-6-6-plus-launch-weekend-10-million/

"Apple today announced that opening weekend sales of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus topped ten million units, breaking the previous record of nine million units set by the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c last year."

Every iPhone launch is more successful than the last. The 5s still had a record breaking opening weekend.

So 10 million is going crazy for the 6/6+ but 9 million isn't going crazy for the 5s/5c?

People shouldn't assume that "stores" means "Apple stores" - if they assume that, that's their fault.

I did say that where I live it's easy to get hold of one, which it is. But then there was a survey done recently which said lincolnshire relies on technology the least out of all counties in the UK so that could be why.

I didn't have to pay O2 to unlock my phone, was just a quick phone call if I remember correctly (might have just filled in a form - I can't be sure).

Also you can buy a phone and then put a different sim in it as long as it's on the same network.

Most carriers charge you to unlock your phone. O2 is one of the exceptions. As far as just putting another SIM from the same carrier it's not as simple as that. If I'm already on a SIM only contract im hardly likely to waste money by getting a phone on another subsidised phone contract am I. What you say makes no sense. As I said getting iPhones and iPads at launch by walking in is not as easy as you make it out to be.

Just can't tell today..never seen such poor communication from Apple!

The communication from Apple about preorder times is never good. In fact it's almost always non existent.

The only difference this time is that pre orders didn't go online at the time we assumed they would. Apple's communication is the same as usual.

Edit: The communication of delivery times (dispatched some time next week, rather than having a date) is different to usual, so I suppose from that point of view their communication is worse.

Apple's announcement stated that preorders in Australia would begin on Oct. 18. I think that would indicate that preorders would not go live until midnight of the 18th in the Westernmost part of Australia. It's currently 7:42 pm on the 17th in Perth Australia. We all might be waiting another 4 hours before preorders go live.

At the end of the day, the iPhone 6/+ is harder to get at Apple Stores but it's getting better. The service providers sell with contract only. The end

I didn't ask so I can't refute what you're saying, but I bought both my iPhone 5 and my iPhone 5s only days after release and I bought them both outright.

Thats weird, I remember trying to buy it something like 2 weeks after and when I phoned up my local Apple store they said that they were selling out everyday and that people were still queuing up in the morning.

There's a chance I might be mistaken and that I just paid a high upfront cost to keep the monthly cost down, as none of the carriers do seem to sell them outright now.

I think that's what I probably did.

My bad!

I wouldn't base too much on what they say in Australia. There is no reason why they can't start the preorders early there, and I really can't see them delaying the process for hours because of Australia.

I don't understand why everyone goes crazy for preorders on the iPads when you can always just walk into the store and take your pick on launch day.

They're not nearly as popular or hard to get as iPhones on release day, although where I live you can walk in on release day and buy iPhones with minimal waiting time as well.

I suspect you didn't actually attempt to get an iPhone 6 on launch day (or any other day near launch!)

My nearest store is 100 miles away so pre order is great for me (if it ever happens lol)

I didn't try to get one but I played with one and asked if they were available, and was told there were plenty in stock. No 6+s though.

That very well could be true. I guess when they usually announce a preorder date and go live at midnight in California, it's still the evening of the previous day in Hawaii. I guess we'll just keep blindly refreshing until something happens.

This is becoming quite tiresome now. We cant even predict as to when they will open.

The next time zone is maybe Cupertino, CA - 8am there is 4pm here so maybe that's the next time slot to look out more?

Taking the store down for 4 hours seems excessive...

It is pretty ridiculous, especially considering they had downtime last night which surely could have been used to reconfigure for this. When I was working for an e-commerce outfit hell would have broken loose had the sites been offline for a four hour stretch. At the end of the day, enabling purchases on the new iPads ought to merely be flipping a "switch" and letting it go.

That said, it wouldn't let us order any earlier and I doubt Apple would be more forthcoming with the pre-order time even if they did have it all set up better.

Honestly I'm starting to get really annoyed with Apple! WTF is going on here!? Is the company doing its best to PO its customers or what!? No comms whatsoever. Is it midnight or 8am or midday or 2pm ???? Errrrr no!!! Guess it will be that moment you pop into the loo and its sells out!!!

.... SJ must be spinning in his grave!

Apple people have jobs and they need to plan their day. What are you playing at. Stop taking your customers for granted. Fix up before you go down the pan! You're Apple, FFS!

TruFact

Besides, lets not forget it's the WHOLE store that's down, so people can't currently buy ANYTHING online.

I'd be interested to see if they lost money because of the down time, where those just looking at buying something other then the new product went elsewhere.
