Placed an order today for 64gb wifi version and have just read this. :(
I really hope the one I get is Ok, for £480 here in the UK it should be.
I expect a bit of vibration but if it's excessive I'll have to return it.

I use speakers while using you tube, videos, games etc, but not really much music.

Surely if they are all like this it will affect resale value as the Air 2 will be k own as the annoying vibrating one before they fixed it in 2-3 years when I'll want to sell it.

Should be here Monday-Wednesday.

I really hope it is ok as I've waited for over a year to get it because I was waiting for 2gb of ram.

Tested a few at the Apple Store and now I see what you all mean.
I tried putting the iPad down on the counter with sound up full to see if the iPad would vibrate and move about but it didn't. It just feels odd when holding it in your hand.
I don't think a case would absorb the vibration. You would most likely feel it through the case. The vibrations would be a bit of a distraction when watching videos.
The only way around it is to use headphones with the iPad.
Or maybe drop the bass level right down low (if thats possible ??). I didn't think to try that out. Darn!

like I said earlier, the recent batch largely resolved the issue...

Not in the U.S.

I live next to an Apple Store and just compared mine to 3 different customer's brand new Air 2 delivered yesterday -- I saw the pallet unloading -- and the vibration was as bad as my release day Air 2.

None had heard of the issue before... all were >30ish... one turned around and returned it. Genius was not surprised, very accommodating, said it would be a waste of her time to try other units.

I've certainly noticed vibrations on the iPad Air 1 too (I don't recall how high the volume was). Especially when playing games with "bassy" explosions. I can't say I minded too much, I first thought it was force-feedback!

I put the bass on low via the Music EQ, but that didn't seem to help at all when it comes to games and movies. It might be beneficial for the music though.

That is funny, when I first heard about this, I thought about the PS3 DualShock controller and the Buttkicker LFE systems that are billed as resonance/vibration being an enhancement.

For me, it a non-issue, but I mainly use the iPad's speakers for Youtube. I have Airplay, Bluetooth, and headphones for audio most of the time. The one benefit is that these speakers seem to be louder than my past iPads. When you set it down, you don't feel/hear vibrating, but you get the benefit of louder speakers. Works for me.

I finally got a chance to return mine last night. The tech told me I was the 7th person to return the Ipad that day for the vibration issue.

I could have lived with the vibration issue by not turning up the volume so high, but the constant dropping of the WIFI signals finally did it in. A $700 device should not have these problems.

I'm guessing that while most aren't buying it specifically for the improved sound, millions and millions more will be pleased by it than the small handful of weirdos who will return it after being unable to figure out the correlation between sound and vibration.

This forum is truly amazing, and it is a profound resource more for people who NEED problems in their lives, than for those who HAVE problems in their lives.

Gee whiz. What's your deal? Weirdos? That's what you call people who return a very expensive device with such an obnoxious flaw? Vibrating profusely while watching videos or whatever. That's OK. NOT.

The correlation between sound and vibration is quite established. The problem is that people don't want their $700 ipad shaking and vibrating like an 80s pager all over the place. Pardon them for having the gall to dislike such things.

Sound to me like you are just trying to justify your own purchase. That's fine and all. Enjoy your Air 2 but don't act like everyone should just suck it up as its obviously a fairly common problem and this isn't the only place people are complaining. Google comes in handy.

That's all I got. :D

I'm just waiting to see if exchanging it works for anyone else. It's not a deal breaker and I have a good screen. Going to wait a few more days and see if there are any reports of improvement with exchange. Definitely not returning it.

lol, well, at least you aren't exaggerating at all.

I kid. Clearly there are those who are bothered by this issue, like yourself, and of course you're welcome to exercise your rights as a consumer and return the thing. And there are those of us who aren't bothered by it. Neither group is a bunch of "weirdos" - just people with different expectations and tolerances for such things.

Live and let live.

It was surprising when I noticed it vibrating in my hands. However, I only noticed it when I was holding it in my hands and not using headphones. That to me is an edge case which is probably what Apple concluded as well. I almost never hold the iPad in my hands and don't use headphones with it.

Of course I'm exaggerating. And, I don't even own an Air 2. I was just defending those that decided that the issue was too much for them to live with. They aren't weirdos or fabricating problems. They are just exercising their right to return and item that didn't meet expectations.

It's good.

Honestly, it's not even exaggerating.

^^ this! It's a FEATURE not a fault :D

Kind of nice playing Real Racing 3 and feeling the "rumblings" as you accelerate and/or crash ... even at the lowest volume setting.

For all other things, I normally plug in earphones when listening to music or watching videos on the iPad, thus not such a big issue.

It was very bad on my first Air 2, a 16gb wifi only unit, but not so bad on the replacement 64gb cellular version. I think I can live with it now.

Did the actual return today. At first rep acted like he'd never heard of the vibration issue. When I pushed a little bit wondering how I'm the first person to notice this he caved and said they know it's an issue and listen to customer feedback.

Patronizing or real? Who knows?

Turn the volume down!
There, I fixed it for you all :)

Fixed it myself. Took it back. Moved a bit over $1,000 of revenue off of Apple's books back into my bank account.

If Apple wants the money back I told them want I needed them to do. We'll see how many dollars move in the same direction mine did - and if Apple cares. Trust in the marketplace.

But all due thanks for your valuable advice. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Yep hatted to send mine back, but Apple needs to learn just because they're Apple does not give them right to pull a Samsung. ;)

my original Ipad Air had the same vibration as my new Air2. when i fold the smart cover back and hold it, the vibration doesn't bother me. without the cover it is irritating but not new to the 2.

It's because Snoop Dre or whatever his name is injected some of that ghetto bass into the speaker system. Ya know, those car stereos that rattle your fillings loose coming from a $1500 junk car? :D
