I had another play today and what really bothered me was the fact that the display is vibrating. Thus with the music on and while touching the display to navigate through safari, apps etc you're having to put up with feeling the vibrations on the display.
It isn't a good experience. You can't even call it a 'novelty' experience.

I wonder how gamers will find this. Will vibrations from the game audio distract the player?

I so want an iPad Air 2 and I could opt to only use headphones but if iPad Air 3 fixes the issue then that could affect the resale value of the Air 2. I don't want to be left holding an unwanted device.
Might just hold off until there's a considerable price drop.

I'm begging you to bring those up.

Kindle Fire HDX 8.9" 4th gen. Not as thin as the Air 2 but much lighter.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4" or 10". Both wonderful devices, light and thin.

It is by design the Air 2 when a video playing where there is really no bass but the device vibrates anyway? What are you folks smoking???

And Google's Nexus 9 is coming next week.

Hey Guys,

Thought I would chime in with my $0.02. I picked up an Air 2 (already own an Air) from the store a few days ago. As everyone is stating, yes it does vibrate quite a bit (definitely more than the Air). With that said, the sound is much fuller than my original Air. While an annoyance, not a deal breaker for me.

Besides the vibration, my Air 2 has 2 pixels out and pretty bad light bleed. So I ordered another one online (64GB Silver) - then I will return my original to the store. I placed this order online Wednesday morning - I was surprised when it shipped that evening and arrived at my house on Thursday. On Wednesday evening, I started thinking I should have ordered Space Gray, so I ordered that online. Figured, I would just keep the color I like. Well, guess what, that one is coming from China.

So, long story short, I think I will be able to confirm or deny if this indeed something being silently fixed. My Silver one was clearly at a local warehouse and my Space Gray is from a newer batch (not in the States yet).

I'm always careful on placing much credence in what "newbie"s post (i.e. this is being fixed), so hopefully we will see if this is indeed the case.

Awesome! Thanks!

Same here, just bought mine. Thought I was in heaven but then I noticed the vibration issue. There is simply no work around here. Tried a heavy duty cover and it didn't help because the screen vibrates just as much as the back and sides do. I'm wondering if over time, the vibration can have any affect on the parts inside? Sure I use headphones or external speaker much of the time, but the times I don't will be a constant reminder what a fool I was for not returning something that should have been perfect. I sure love the upgrades though! I have 8 days left to make up my mind. And I'm thinking that the next shipments will have been improved possably.

I exchanged my 16gb wifi only after a few days. I still have my 32gb cellular Air and I could have got used to the limitations of the base model but for the unacceptable vibrations.

The new 64gb cellular still vibrates but it is not anywhere near as irritating as the previous unit. So much for my rather unrealistic idea of saving a bit of money and having no problems managing storage and doing without cellular.

If it's something that I will have "have to deal with", then I'll deal with not having this years release and wait for the next one. I don't like it, and ever time I use it, I get an annoying mindset from it. I've used it a lot and I've had it for a week now.

Got an Air 2 cellular and you can feel the sound, no distortion and it's also MUCH louder than my Air. Doesn't bother me one bit, i could see it being an issue if the audio distorted but it doesn't. Seems to be a bit of a storm in a teacup.

Don't really agree with it being much louder than the Air as to my ears they sound much the same at just over half volume. Not a bad sound from tiny speakers in both devices.

A storm in a teacup is probably correct but this is MacRumours remember!

I got one today and the screen itself literally buzzes under your fingers. Certain games might be considered unplayable due to it. I am bothered by some people's assertions that an exchanged unit is not the same, but I have my doubts about that.

I honestly didnt know so many people used their iPads this way. Meaning I almost never hold the iPad in my hands while watching a video or listening to music without headphones.

I think you miss the point. Games have sound, and they literally feel like an electric charge under your finger. It's not normal, and not anything like the iPad Air before it.

Again you missed the point headphones. Plus its rude to other people who may be around you to not put your headphones on.

I returned my Air 2 die to overall disappointment, not due to vibrations. However, I considered repurchasing it, but decided not to and the screen vibration you mention is why. I can live with the back casing vibrating, but it was unpleasant to tap, type, or swipe becuase the screen also vibrated. And people here are really getting on my nerves telling others to "turn the volume down" or "use headphones." I'm not going to pay $1,000 for a device when I can't even comfortably utilize all it's features. I don't often complain about design or OS bugs, but between the vibration and the iOS 8 Safari keyboard freezes, I'm really getting pissed at Apple.

Admittedly, the people who are affected/annoyed to the point of a return are probably a minority, but it's the principle. If you can't maintain the previous generation's battery life, structural rigidity, and add appropriate insulation to speakers then don't make a device thinner.

Also, I don't think that it's just the "tech geeks on a forum" that care about this issues. There are posts on MacRumors, Apple Discussions, Reddit, and other sites about it. So it is a thing. It's not the end of the world, but for those who use the speaker for....well....sound it is annoying. Not for everyone, but for many.

The iPad Pro might fix this since rumor has it that it will be thicker that the iPad Air 2 (not by much though). Though the rumor also says Apple is movie the speakers to the side with the default orientation being landscape mode, so who knows what that will do.

On a side note. The vibration issue isn't primarily caused by the iPad Air 2 being thinner, but because Apple changed the internal orientation of the speakers.

Again you missed the point headphones. Plus its rude to other people who may be around you to not put your headphones on.

Lots of people use their iPads at home. No need for headphones then if you don't want to wear them. I should not have to wear earbuds to avoid sound vibrations in my hands (iPads don't even ship with earbuds). I also don't like to feel my iPad "working." I want it to get out of the way and let me immerse myself in consumption or creation.

I'm with you 100%. There's too much compromise for a lousy 1 mm extra thinness. Worse batterylife, rippling screen and vibrating sound. I so want the faster processor and the extra RAM, but these trade-offs are so annoying, especially since they are totally unnecessary. Lighter yes, but thinner than the perfectly thin Air1? Just so the thinnest tablet can be claimed? What a waste.

I agree 100%. This "way" will cause at Apple same problems in the future.

Damn, this might be a deal breaker for me...considering an iPaid Air...tested at Best Buy and glad I am not the only one noticing the whole thing vibrating big time when playing music/watching videos.

Any ladies here?

Need to confirm that my Air 2 vibrating can, you know, be a vibrator before trying it out on my wife. She makes me carry her toy in my carry-on when we travel and this might be a welcomed feature.

Speakers vibration on the Air 2: seriously....

At every iPad launch I enjoy the constant complaining about almost everything on this section of the forum, trying to figure out what would be the next #gate....
Being a long time active user and an even longer time lurker here, I'm pretty accustomed to that and I'm sincerely amused about how picky some customers can be (while admittedly some others are complaining about truly defective units), but basically every time I read something about a design flaw, I'm considering that not true.
It's my opinion, you can agree or not, but I'm entitled to have one. There were quite a few real design flaws in Apple products, of course, I'm thinking about the liquid cooling of the G5, the ridiculously scratching iPod, the "dead before 14 months" Time Capsule, the not so good antenna design of the iPhone 4 (an average quality design blowed out of proportion by haters and competitors, but still a poor project) and others. But in my opinion most of the Apple's product are just a fine combination of software and hardware.
I was expecting a bend gate even for the air 2, but I was puzzled to discover several complains about speaker's vibrations. Well, I don't use internal speakers of my iPad at all, so I went to the nearest Apple Store (for another reason) and I spent a few minutes to test this "issue".
Seriously, which issue?!?
Yes, the air 2 vibrates, even at 50-60% of volume. Yes, in comparison the Air barely resonate. But, again, where is the issue?
It doesn't distort the sound. Actually the speakers seem to be a little louder than on the previous generation Air.
You can feel the speakers resonate through the thin and light frame, but how that could be considered a flaw is beyond my comprehension.
I don't know if it worth the upgrade from the Air I own, the 2 Gb are tempting, but surely this issue for me goes directly in the "complain about an non existent issue" virtual section of the forum.
I know I'm going to be attacked by several well known users on that, but still I like to share my thoughts on the matter.
