Fwiw I know SSD manufacturer ID for toshiba starts with 89124152 but what manufacturer is ID 4582605 ??

I have an iPhone 6 128GB TLC and iPad Air 2 WiFi 128GB TLC. TLC is toshiba. Both are JailBroken on 8.1 and running sweet as. Only had 1 random reboot on the ipad air 2 and a "boot loop" issue with iphone 6 after setting new passcode (passcode issue) fixed using pangu restore (retain data/apps).

Anywho to check if you have TLC or MLC.
On your "iphone/ipad device" using "safari" visit the website: http://www.pgyer.com/tlccheck (don't need jailbreak its free) Click on the magnifying glass/green button to install app (safe to install). Should have TLCCheck app (safe/trust on first run) may load ads "Close down" will say TLC or MLC up the top can check other interesting info below. Have run on an ipad 4 128GB (not JB) its MLC.

How do you konw it's safe? After removing the app does some information still contain on your iPhone about this app?

Its safe. I tested the code

----------

The code is quite simpel. And no, there are no infos remaining on the phone of the app

Because some people are very scary. If someone really wants to hack your phone, he dosent need a app on your phone. They can do it anyway. So dont worry. Delete the app after u used it. And if your still concerened use a backup to have a clean installation again.

----------

All Air 2 with 128GB are TLC. My Air one is 128GB but MLC. Now i even have a strange popping noise comming from time to time to my new Air 2. Its very frustrating. I have Genius Bar appointment. Will see what they say.

If you say it's safe, and since you tested the code, I trust ya ;)

Well, the most disappointing thing about my Air 2 is that it takes ages to put pictures and videos on it. I have like 50-60 GB of pictures/videos. Takes like 3-4 hours atleast.

That's the freaking TLC. If it's equipped with MLC it would be quite faster. I'm telling it again and again. All say no its not true. But you see it by yourself. The Air 1 would take maybe 1h

iPad Air 2 use very slow TLC nand

There is a app called IquickMark on the apps tore. Check your benchmark results. Would be cool to see your results

First score is my Air 2, second score is iPad Mini 2

Singe Core Tests:

CPU: 22 (57)

RAM: 83 (50)

OS: 8,9 (12)

Disk: 355 (229)

Multi Core Tests:

CPU: 205 (109)

RAM: 140 (63)

OS: 22 (16)

Disk: the app crashed while performing this test

What does these scores mean?

Im not convinced of your data, nor of your claims. Testing the actual NAND performance of an iOS device is not currently easy but the results Anandtech got are far different than yours. They found that the Air 2 was quite fast for sequential writes, faster, in fact, than the usb2 interface can handle.

More than likely there is something else going on in your experimentation to cause the difference, as your results are less than half of Anandtech's, or well within the capabilities of the usb interface.

It could be the difference is due to the type of NAND, but I'm not convinced.

Look I have the Air 1 and the Air 2. The Air 1 use the more reliable MLC Nand. The Air 2 uses TLC NAND. The TLC NAND is fast for writing small data blocks. While the MLC is over all faster in big writing blocks. The Air 2 is only faster while you as example install files till 800MB. AFTER THAT IT GETS TILL TO 7 TIME SLOWER

----------

Guess this chart says all!

----------

I'm not saying the Air 2 is overall slow. But when you transfer big files quite a lot it's a pain in the a.....

----------

While the MLC keeps the writing up to 15MB a second, the TLC only achieves 2,3MB a second.

----------

The first test says nothing because the nand gets written with 0 and that is no a good test to show all day performance

Apple is trying to make us look like idiots. As example. I bought a Asus Laptop with a i7 4710HQ PROZESSOR. And a Nvidia 850GTX video card. I payed about 1000 Dollar. The Apple Mac Book Pro in 13inch with only on board graphics and a i5 PROZESSOR cost about 1300 dollar. Think about it. They use mid hardware and sell it for premium prices. I'm guessing it's time to think about all that.

Have you even taken a look at what else is available for tablets on the market, let alone bought one and tried to live with it for a while? There is nothing else that even comes close to the iPad in overall build quality, experience and price. Not even close. Given that, why does Apple deserve singling out?

It's possible the specific TLC nand they used in some devices is problematic, however overall TLC nand should perform 100% fine for any consumer level device. We've been using it in our premium Thinkpads for a couple of years now and it has basically been fine there even with the much higher workloads.

Yeah thats right with the Air 1. The Air 2 is very buggy.Today Apple offered me to replace my Air 2 because off a popping sound.

With any other tablet out there you'd be thrilled if that was the biggest problem you were dealing with.

If you can't understand why someone would choose the MacBook over the Asus laptop, you probably shouldn't be buying Apple products. Same goes for your fixation over MLC and TLC. There are probably better devices out there for you if you're so worried about the transfer speed of large files. The vast majority of iPad users will never use their iPad like that, so it doesn't matter which kind of storage Apple uses. Your complaints will fall on deaf ears both here and at Apple.

I hope you find what you're looking for, but you won't find it with Apple.

The only thing the Apple Laptop can offer is the Retina display. Everything else is second class. And i did not complain. Its just a fact. And if i would not like Apple products, i would not buy each genaration of the iphone and ipad.

----------

But in my eyes most products off Apple are way overpriced

I think you've made your point. In the rare instance that a person would transfer large files back and forth between an iPad and a computer the performance will be slightly slower if your iPad Air 2 has TLC memory in it.

The build quality is probably a bit better on the MacBook. Asus laptops are very good (especially at the high end), but very few laptops match the fit and finish of the MacBook line. And if you do have a problem with a MacBook, you can take it to the Apple Store. I imagine it's not as simple with an Asus laptop.

Most importantly though, the Asus laptop is worthless if you want to run OS X. That is the biggest differentiator between Macs and other laptops. Some people buy Macs specifically for OS X. You may not care either way, but it's a big thing for a lot of people.

Regarding the NAND issue, yes, it is a fact. But it's a fact that Apple obviously is okay with.

Yes, Apple products tend to cost more than competing products. But they're only overpriced if you don't think their products are worth your money.

COme abck with laptop config similair config to Macbooks and let enlighten us how much cheaper you can go ....

Last I checked, Lenovo with same config would be much more expensive if u bundle it up with same SSD/Display/CPU/RAM/etc. ..... (standard pricing)

Generally, Apple costs more, but not by a huge margin. comparing a low end laptop with Macbooks don't make any sense.
