2 marginally improved front facing speakers would have been just as good, imo. we'll see

I've been begging for stereo speakers in landscape mode for years and have been jealous of iPad Pro users since they got it. For me this is going to make watching video content and playing games so much better. It's about time they did this and I'm just relieved Apple decided not to reserve this particular feature to the iPad Pro only.

Reasons to buy an iPad Pro other than pencil and speakers and keyboard and screen size.

It's now the worlds fastest computer without a fan.

But, with all due respect to iPad Pro users (seriously, if you enjoy it I'm happy for you and hope you will continue to love it), what's the point of all that power for a mobile OS?

Apple can only raise iPad sales by including features consumers can see and hear. No one cares about RAM except for a small crowd that needs it or cares. Apple doesn't include RAM specs in any of their marketing so why would they lower their profit margins for a market that won't know or care?

Yup, another reason why 4GB of RAM is very unlikely for the Air 3. Most people won't know or care about the difference. Apple's policy with RAM in iOS devices seems like it's always been to include just as much as is needed to support the feature of the device and not try to make a fuss about it.

How do you think future consumers will edit their 4K family videos? On an iPhone or an iMac or something in between. If we are really going to live in a Post-PC world, tablets must have power. Hollywood won't cut its movies on iPad Pro, but everyone else.

snip... I don't get the "flash" support on an iPad? Who uses those devices as a camera?
Thousands and thousands of people.
If you're tourist, an tablet is something you might take with you while out and about for many reasons, picture taking one of them.

So basically the only thing better about the iPad Pro now is the Pencil Support (which may change) and the screen size? Great.
Just curious when this iPad Air 3 come out because I completely missed it.

That's fine if you want to do illustrating, but that isn't really what I do. I can't really imagine using a tablet that big. I'm sure there are some apps that don't scale too well with it as well?

iPP owner here. There's no way I could go back to an Air now, the screen is just too small. Split view multitasking is so much better on the larger display.

I'm skeptical Apple will release an official keyboard for the Air. But if it takes other Pro design cues that will be a good thing. My Pro never gets warm and there is very little speaker vibration. The complete opposite of my Air 2.

I don't know if this is a function of RAM or the A9X chip (or a little of both) but split screen works so much better on my Pro than my Air 2. My Pro never feels sluggish, my Air 2 does sometimes.

Bro, their bluetooth keyboard is their "official" keyboard for all of their devices. Why something specific?

Apple products now get sluggish after a few software revisions. That's gotten to be the case more and more. Don't see it? Maybe you keep up on everything, most of the time.

Refinement is not in Apple's vocabulary. At time goes on and they become Microsoft, they will get worse. It is showing.

Keep up the narrow focus on a few selective facts. It works for you.

Hi,

based on the fact, that the iPad Pro's sales numbers could be better and declining iPad (mini/air) sales numbers, Apple has to improve the existing iPad air to keep the buyer's interested.

If the "pro" is of no success it also might get axed sometime down the road. It all comes down to development cost vs. sales numbers.

Based on these facts, Apple might steer the iPad Air product line closer to a smaller iPad pro.

The pencil, the speakers and also the connector are likely candidates to show up in the next gen air.

But what about the price-tag? Well... it's all calculated through accessory. The pencil is about 100 bucks right? So - if you buy the pencil you pay with it for the tech in your iPad. Actually the tech in the iPad is worth only a dollar or two.

Licensing costs for the keyboard dock-connector thingy will also very likely generate money for Apple.

Maybe the device gets a RAM increase, since the iPhone 6s also got one.

I would prefer not having a 4k screen, since it only eats up ram and cpu. The resolution on the air is good enough imo.

bye
Darky

If the next iPad can use the pencil then it means that iPad pro sales are not stellar and that they need something to increase the stagnating sales of he regular iPad.

There are a lot of things which can be packed to the iPad Air 3. I am really excited to see the March event. Look, they can add 3D Touch, pencil support, 4 speakers, 32GB BASE MODEL, improved Touch ID, smart connector, 4GB RAM, better cameras, better CPU...

That March event is gonna be pretty damn interesting. I think I am gonna sell my Mini 2 as soon as possible. It was really good companion, before I had iPhone 6...

iPad Pro mini, anyone? ;)

Yeah, I can't help feeling that this might be a higher priced offering.

1. If they introduce this at current Air 2 prices, would they drop the Air 2 down to the entry level price bracket... giving price parity with the Mini 4?

2. I guess they could drop the Air 2 completely and keep the Air 1 as the entry level iPad.

3. Or they ditch the Air 1, keep the Air 2 at current prices and introduce Air 3/Air Pro at higher price.

Im guessing option 3. gives the highest revenue. It'll compare to the Pro, much like the Mini 4 compares to the Air 2.

Only reason they would add it is if they feel there are some apps that need to come to it that wouldn't work well with 2 GB. Hence the Pro having 4. I'm guessing they'll go with 2 again though.

Pencil support would be the killer. I was tinkering with the Pro in the Apple store and while I was disappointed with Paper 53, the Apple Notes software is extremely accurate and responsive.

My basis was if you can 'hatch' accurately and quickly and if you can actually write legibly at your normal size - and it does it brilliantly. I remember thinking that this is basically what I expected of the iPad back when it was introduced in 2010.

If this can be replicated on the iPad Air, they have a guaranteed sale with me.

Okay, well that's one use, anyway. So all the power is for video editing?

Ok, I'm assuming "English 2nd language", but still...
Better run that post by a buddy - it makes negative sense.
It's kinda just stringing together words with no point whatsoever.
Seriously! Give the guy a break, it made perfect sense to me.
