Yes! Would love to get an iPad version of Settlers of Catan and many more.

Also, does anyone know of any good RTS or Turn-based in the styles of Starcraft, Warcraft or Heroes 3 out now for the iPhone and/or coming to the iPad?:)

Battle for Wesnoth is a turn based game. It's free on the desktop and has a ridiculous amount of content (hundreds of hours). It will only be $0.99 when it comes out for the iPad. It's already out on the iPhone.

Okay, I am confused. Will all of the apps I have like Navigon already work on an iPad or do I need to buy them all over again?

Developers have 2 options. Make a new app or make a universal app.
With a universal app it is one application that changes its UI depending on which device is viewing it. So if the app is on an iPad it will have an entirely new user interface. These apps are better if you don't want your customers to pay allover again. The downside is that they tend to be larger in size.

I liked Rogue Planet very much, it's a Starcraft-style TBS for iPhone. Some of the levels are tough but definitely winnable if you can figure out the right strategy. Good enough story, too.

I don't know whether it's coming to iPad.

just keep in mind that only the 3G model has GPS so if you buy a Wifi version your navigation apps are going to be pretty worthless.

I hate to be that guy, but someone needs to say it:

Some of these prices are kind of outrageous. ESPN scorecenter is free on the iPhone, their website is free, but they are charging $4.99 for the iPad. The same goes for netnewswire. MLB at Bat is amazing, but should I really have to buy it twice (iPad and iPhone) on top of the year subscription that I already paid ($120) for mlb.tv? I love plants vs. zombies, but I already bought it 3 times (steam, mac, and iPhone).

I'm just saying...

If these publishers think I'll pay again for the same app with higher resolution, they're wrong. In fact, from now on, I'll likely only buy iPhone apps (and especially games) that are universal.

If the iPad apps have significant more functionality, I'll bite. I'll even pay more than for an iPhone app, but they better include the iPhone version.

But 10 bucks for an RSS reader, just because the screen is bigger? I don't think so! Developers don't get payed per pixel... (I'm a developer myself. But I think that's just trying to milk the early adopters.)

I am kind of disappointed to see Fieldrunners and PvZ just look like higher resolution versions of the games I already have. Not that DEV shouldn't get paid, but I can't justify shelling out $9.99 for an app just because it's prettier. Guess I was really just hoping for more area of game-play because my 6 yr-old LOVES playing those on my phone.

If apps like this go on sale eventually for $4.99 then maybe.....for now I'll stick with apps I never owned previously. Already shelling out $699 for an iPad I don't technically "need", have to be somewhat picky as to which apps I buy for now ;)

I agree with you on the prices.

$9.99 for Plants vs. Zombies?? If it's just an upscaled version of the iPhone app I will be sorely disappointed. If it's got more content and closer to the desktop app then I can see paying that amount.

The ESPN Scorecenter app is a bit more in depth I believe, it's got videos and more going for it so I could see paying $4.99. $9.99 for NetNewsReader?? They're smoking some really good stuff there.

prices

Prices were high when the iphone apps came out, then went down quickly and measurably.

In retail and pricing, it is basically IMPOSSIBLE to INCREASE A price but very EASY and rewarding to DECREASE a price to incent customers and gain market share/customers.

I think in a few weeks/month we'll say major drops in pricing for these apps.

At least for games I think devs will try to charge more because the iPad could be seen as a longer term gaming device. Plus (at least for 3D games) assets will have to be redone at higher resolutions.

Of course after a while the "race to the bottom" will return and prices could drop back down to iPhone iPod Touch levels.

I agree. Sadly I think some devs are taking advantage of us early adopters. I won't allow it, lol. I bit on Scrabble but I think I made an exception. No more. I already bought Field Runners for the iPhone and my PSP and DS, I'm not buying it again just cuz it's pretty

Kudos to Evernote, looks like they just pushed an update that makes the iPhone app Universal. *claps*

For those complaining about high prices...
What you're forgetting is that when the iPhone App Store launched, there were some crazy prices. $10-$15 for big name games Tetris and Scrabble. It took a few months of 99¢ games to start lowering the overall expected prices for apps. I expect the same here.

Anyone know how many of the ipad apps are universal apps, so that they can also be used on the iphone?

How would you tell that, is it listed somewhere?

I've not actually looked at the App Store yet (I'm on my way now), but from the AppAdvice website these are the iPad apps I'm really interested in checking out:

- The official Apple apps (Pages, Numbers etc... also they'll have a new version of Remote soon)

- Twittelator Pad (brilliant interface, lots of clever design decisions and it does translations like Tweetie 2 does)

- Photogene (seems to do a bit more than iPhone version)

- Command & Conquer (can you imagine how good that kind of game would be on iPad??? Especially multiplayer!)

- Real Racing HD (looks like a solid gaming title and does multiplayer)

- NBA Game Time (not 100% clear what functionality it gives, but the app is free and I believe you can watch highlights so I'll check it out)

- Photobucket (no official Flickr app yet, but there is an unofficial one. But if this app is good, I may be tempted to try the Photobucket service)

- Wikipanion (I like the iPhone app but it can be a bit slow. Good features. The iPad version seems quite good too)

- N.O.V.A. (I'm going to wait until I can watch Youtube reviews but it does intrigue me. I still haven't tried a FPS on the iPhone etc)

- WSJ, NYT etc (I see WSJ have their papers on there and it looks great, but I'm confused about NYT which seems to only have a Editors Choice app with less articles...)

- abc player (free tv with ads... PLEASE work in the UK, PLEASE!)

That's what stands out for me so far. Obviously netflix and all that look good too. I'm also interested in seeing what the VNC apps are like, but I must admit it will be hard to spend money on a good iPad VNC (or RPD etc) client after spending £17.99 on LogMeIn for the iPhone ages ago. :(

Some of those prices are high. We'll see how that goes after the initial excitement wears off. I suspect there will be a winnowing process where only the really superior apps will retain those high prices, and other more run-of-the-mill ones will have to charge less.

Good luck with that.
