I hope Apple does something with the store layout for this because the current setup is dismal. They need the iPhone/iPad toggle for all the categories, not just the front page. Either that or some way to filter the results so you can only show one or the other. Plus the new releases are only showing a handful of the apps, but more of them are showing up under favorites and such that are all new.

For those complaining about high prices...
What you're forgetting is that when the iPhone App Store launched, there were some crazy prices. $10-$15 for big name games Tetris and Scrabble. It took a few months of 99¢ games to start lowering the overall expected prices for apps. I expect the same here.

99c is pretty unrealistic. Unless you've got lucky and are one of the top sellers, your not going to make any real money.

So READ: the average iPhone developer is going to make little or no money if they sell their app for 99c.

Will text apps be "blurry"? Such as the Kindle Reader App or the text will automatically scale to the screen dimensions. I didn't see any reviews that mention this.

I believe they are just going to run pixel doubled, so the text won't have any extra filtering or anything added to it.

Luckily there's going to be an iPad Kindle app.

Agreed. It's pretty silly that all applications appearing on both platforms now read, "Such-and-such for the iPad". They should have made two stores.

I'm hoping there is a lot of psychological impact to the form factor. People expect things for their phone to be free or very cheap, no matter how complex the application is. Yet they will pay more for desktop software and games, even if it has less complexity.

A lot of good developers got burned bad, dumping hundreds of hours of development time into a project and getting returns in the ballpark of pennies per hour. That means a lot of great ideas never happen.

Hopefully the iPad will have some middle ground - not just the big publishers and a few successful viral apps.

Call me a bozo, but is there no way to filter for just iPad apps???

EDIT: Herp derp... Searching iPad and scrolling down and clicking "iPad Apps View All" works ok...

Can anyone in the US confirm these apps for me? They showed up on AppAdvice:

- abc Player

- iWork apps (Pages, Numbers etc)

- Command & Conquer (iPad version, not iPhone)

These aren't in the UK App Store yet. All the others seem to be there, pages and pages of apps. But those seem to be missing. Any confirmations?

Downloaded iPad apps appear in a separate section of the "Apps" pane in iTunes, below iPhone and iPod touch applications.

Some apps are universal. These show up on top in a separate grouping called "iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad apps"

Universal apps seem to be tagged with an iTunes Plus style "plus" icon. The caption reads: "This app is designed for both iPhone and iPad"

It look like you don't have to re-buy your apps :D

I just updated some apps so the now work native with both the iPhone and iPad :D

So on the iPhone it will look one way and on the iPad another way :D

Thats cool!! :D

they really should start thinking about a better appstore system its getting so confusing what works for what

A lot of my apps that I have on my iphone have released updates today. I haven't looked to see if they updated the resolution for the ipad but they all say added ipad support in their update description.

To name a few:

Zinger-Soft's iSSH/VNC console (you can use this to remote into your mac too) with ipad support and split screen sessions.

Acceleroto's Air Hockey (iPad native version built in)

INTUA's BeatMaker (iPad compatabity is the description but who knows if they did anything to the interface for the ipad)

Yuck. I looked at some of the iPad apps and probably won't be syncing any iPhone apps to it. The iPad apps are much better anyways. Looking forward to the Kindle app.

I just got a bunch of updates for some of my text-based apps (IMDB, Delivery Status, Pandora, Dragon Dictation) that make them universal apps. I'm not quite sure what exactly that means, but I imagine the text will be native rather than just pixel doubling.

On a side note, I was surprised to see these updates. Even a few games (air hockey and touch tanks) are now universal.

Now I'm even more pissed that MLB at Bat and Plants vs. Zombies aren't giving users who already bought their games (and in my case on more than just the iPhone) some sort of discount.

I'm looking forward to Apple creating an iPad-enhanced version of Remote for the Apple TV. There's so many possibilities. I'd love to see scene selection appear on the iPad screen for the movie you're watching on your TV.

Four of my apps just released updates that made them compatible with both the iPhone and the iPad. Very nice move on the part of Apple and the developers. You would have had some upset people if they had to re-purchase their apps for the iPad.

I'm not really that upset about prices being a little more overall, after all one would hope that these would be more full-featured apps than a lot of the drivel for iPhone. However one in particular stands out as being outrageously priced: Omnigraffle for $50. :O

I've already purchased Bento, Flight Control HD, Keynote, Pages, Scrabble, and Things.

I would have bought OmniGraffle, but I think they are going to quickly realize their pricing strategy might need some work. Come on, AutoDesk's app is <$10. I LOVE OmniGraffle, but will have to wait.

Wow the apps look great! I don't know if I can hold out for the 3G!

Edit: after looking some more, I'm amazed at how many apps will be available for launch. There are some fantastic free apps as well! And so far most of them look like a lot of work has gone into them (ie, not many fart and flashlight apps)

YES! :D

I paid £17.99 for LogMeIn Ignition when it came out on the iPhone. I just noticed that the same app now supports iPad! Fantastic! I was going to get a VNC app for the iPad, and I was a bit gutted that I might have to get a new one. Excellent! Very impressed.

But I looked through EVERY iPad app on the list earlier and didn't see it, which means that the iPad list is only showing iPad specific apps... not universal apps. I wonder how many more of my fave iPhone apps will be universal... I guess I'll start looking.

Okay, I am confused. Will all of the apps I have like Navigon already work on an iPad or do I need to buy them all over again?

I sent an email to Navigon customer service last week and asked them about an iPad version. The response was something like - "I don't know, but check the app store" So I guess time will tell.
