Purchased a second iPad yesterday and within seconds I could tell I had a yellow screen. It was considerably less vibrant than my previous iPad and was much dimmer.

Returned it but there weren't any left for an exchange. Will try again tomorrow.

I hope they didn't change suppliers...

Ha ha....You guys are nuts.

My screen is perfect on iPad, iMac and MBP (and iPod Touch for that matter)

To those of you who have returned 3 or more iPads.....Please stop taking them, get a refund and move on. Seriously, move on to something else and give the apple store reps a break from your insanity.

I think you just have a lack of attention to detail. I'm on my third iPad because the first had bad wifi issues (had yellowish half), and the second had a very distinctive yellow tint on the right half of the screen. The third is better, but still has a noticeable yellow right half; I can live with it. I'm glad you either have a perfect iPad or are oblivious to the issue, but don't insult people who have issues, especially given the number of people who have noticed it.

My iPad has a slight yellow tinge uniformly. It does not bother me much tho. I can always exchange it within AppleCare warranty.

Just got my iPad replacement per ups. The new unit does have the yellowish issue but it's only visible to a skilled eye and barely noticeable. Fu ny thing is it's in the VERY same part of the screen (right going to te middle) but far less pronounced.

I do generally prefer warmer looking screens as they let you read text more comfortably and think I will keep this one this time.

I have this same problem. My iPad screen is more yellowed than my iPad2 screen. I've also noticed this with my wife's iPhone 3 and my 3GS at the time we had those. Could it be different screen manufacturers?

Here's a link to "Photo Jul 12, 11 40 18 PM.jpeg" in my Dropbox:

Same with my iPad and iPad2.The ipad2 looks much better brighter and more vibrant.I believe the panel in my ipad2 is a Samsung.

There also appears to be similar differences ( but less pronounced IME) between LG and Samsung panels in the MacBook Air,Samsung brighter,LG less bright and warmer

I've been dealing with this issue for about two weeks now: my wife bought an iPad from apple.com and we got it on the Monday after launch day. We both enjoyed it, so much in fact that I decided I wanted my own personal iPad. I purchased it from a local Best Buy, and when I compared it to my wife's iPad I was stunned at not only the yellow tint of her iPad, but also how terrible the light leakage was compared to the iPad I just purchased at Best Buy. That one is virtually a perfect screen (although there may be some very, very minimal light leakage), with the same white balance as my iphone 4.

The take home message is this: I know for a fact that proper display units are out there, and though I've gone through 3 returns to the Apple Store with varying issues: dead pixels, severe light leakage, and the latest is an almost ridiculously yellow tinted screen, I plan to continue my quest until I can find another one just like the one from Best Buy. If that one is broken, well then I guess I'm looking for a broken display because I enjoy white whites, not yellow, pollinated-looking whites.

If I can't find one that matches the Best Buy iPad, eventually I will just give up and return it because I'd rather not have one than pay over $500 for a screen that is suppose to be bright and vibrant, but instead is less pleasing to look at than my iphone 4's screen. I think that's what is wrong with consumers (and even America) today - we're all willing to settle for "just alright". I don't settle for just alright in my own work, and I certainly won't settle for it in a device I'm paying $500 for. Just my two cents!

The new ipad displays are definitely less blue than the iphone screen. Perhaps you just prefer a cooler screen?

dude.. seriously.. Read those back to back. You enjoyed it so much you bought a 2nd.. and now you are pissed that the 2nd one was even better! so pissed that you will use it to stand your ground at the insanity that is Americans settling for being the richest, laziest, yet privileged country in the world!

Also to the people that are buying 3... 12 ipads.. are you getting them all at the same store? It seems to make sense that ipads in a particular store or even region would be out of the same batch and/or factory.. maybe you need to branch out.. perhaps you could take a road trip this weekend or even fly to the opposite coast to try some at a distant store?

In my post I clearly stated that the Best Buy ipad is identical to my iphone 4 white balance, so some of them are not more yellow. Dude, seriously.

I'm upset that the newer iPad has a much more vibrant display than the first one. You are not understanding the concept/principle here: the iPad is a great device, but if the quality control is this poor, something is not right. Every iPad display should look identical. Would you go buy a brand new car with a huge scratch down the side of it? I guess that's ok though, because the other new cars have scratches on the hood, bumper, or interior right? If consumers continue to support this by not taking them back, quality control standards will just continue to drop - the "laziest" portion of your portrayal of America. Dude, seriously.

Can't understand how people are replacing their iPad's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and in some cases 11 times In quick succession when surely they're going to come across some issue or another relating to the screen or otherwise.

Until these issues are addressed, it seems reasonable to wait at least a month or two and then give it another shot as opposed to frankly wasting your time when the iPad is fully functional in the mean time.

Dude, you don't get it... wait a month? If one is trying to stay within the 14 day window for return, etc., waiting a month isn't an option, unless you want to go without an ipad for a month or longer.

The whole reason I'm frustrated with the screen and trying to get a good one is because I use it A LOT. I have shifted much of the work in finance I do in the evening over to the ipad. I don't really feel like re-organizing my whole work schedule/space back to a non-ipad world.

And I'm not paying another 800 in a month or two when they MAY have the kinks worked out.(based on previous experience with apple, they will never admit a problem, and do nothing to fix it.) However, there are some really good screens out there right now, I've seen them.

Every time you exchange your iPad, your return window is extended by 14 days. I've done it six times already.

My latest iPad is way more yellow at the top of the screen. You can tell just by looking at it, but it's really apparent when split keyboard is used in landscape mode.

Since nobody seems to have a 32GB model in stock, I'm now forced to either downgrade or upgrade. I already downgraded from a 64GB because I couldn't justify spending an extra $100 for, what seems to be, a shoddy product at this point.

I think I'm going to return it for a refund and see how things are looking in a month or two.

Everyone is said to be suffering from this yellow tint so in fact you really are wasting your time if it's just for the sake of ensuring there aren't any tint-free models hanging around which there doesn't seem to be.

First of all, your ipad doesn't have a scratch down it.

2nd of all, no, every ipad isn't identical. Just like every car isn't identical. When you buy a new car you inevitably take it back in to the shop several times for recalls and little repairs and usually end up with a few things. Aside from being built in multiple humongous factories in different cities, Apple sources its displays for these ipads from 3 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT VENDORS. Just like how the tires on your car may be a different make even though you bought the same model car.

3rd, a car costs 40-80x as much as an ipad. You are buying a mass produced consumer item. $500 just isn't that much when you are talking about packing a rather large amount of tiny electronic elements into a small package for Apple to care that every single one is perfectly identical. Is the screen good enough? Well apparently it was so good enough that you wanted a 2nd.. and it sure beats the pants off anything else on the market.

It's not a new car, it's an iPad.. and no they can't all be identical. Have you ever bought LCD monitors? You run into the same stuff with different manufacturers for panels, etc.

And seriously, new cars are riddled with all sorts of problems. Reverence all the ratings for "initial quality". Stuff happens and needs to be fixed.

I just spent $50k on a new car and it came with 1 small paint defect that couldn't be detected right away. It went back in the second week to get the sunroof adjusted because it leaked the first time it was washed. While it was there, they applied a software update to the transmission, for which the recall notification hadn't yet been issued.

For 2011, brand new vehicles averaged 107 defects per 100 vehicles sold in the USA, according to JD Powers.

I'll bet there's going to be a LOT of refurbs :D

note: But, maybe Apple will think they actually are defective?
I doubt that, but you never know.

curious

There's probably some overpaid guy in Cupertino, turning up the brightness and wrapping iPads in blankets right now. :p

Same here... 3/4 of my screen is perfect except the last 1/4th is really yellow. The split keyboard in landscape is a good test. I'm going to show them that next time.

I just laughed at all three of these points. You're one of those suckers who probably pays sticker price aren't you? Anyways, I got a good display today...if I'm going to pay 100% of the price for something, I expect to get 100% of what I payed for. Not a screen that is 80, 85, or even 99.99% of what is advertised. If you want to spend your money and not get what you payed for, then be my guest, but don't tell me how I should feel or do business.

You're just making my arguments for me lol. If no one would accept this poor craftsmanship, there wouldn't be discrepancies in LCD screen. And no, I've never bought a new car and had to take it back in a week or two...it's called inspecting it before you drive it off the lot.
