I just got my 64 GB 3G in Australia. I'm wondering if any of you guys can see it. The right side is a tad warmer than the left (with the home button down)

Here are 2 photos taken of the bookmarks menu in portrait.

1. One with the home button down. (bookmarks menu is in the cool side)

2. One with the home button up (bookmarks menu is in the warm side)

Frankly a bit irritated by this.

Any chance this might be fixed by a software update?

Mine was the same as yours.

I had a look at the demo ipads at a few retailers and they all have the exact same flaw. It's harder to see simply because of the bright white lights in stores but once u see it you'll notice it. So do we all have the same issue just not observant enough to see it?

With the home button down, the right bottom corner is yellowest and that then goes 2" left and the rectangle portion it forms with the top of the screen is warm. The rest of the screen is perfectly balanced.

I noticed uneven colour reading a couple PDFs that actually bugged me quite a bit. I mean, on such a small screen it seems ridiculous that this can happen (but maybe size is irrelevant).

The effect can be show the best when I open a bunch of Google search windows in Safari (or just white pages). Then, from the screen where you select a Safari window, it is very easy to tell the page on the bottom left looks nothing like the page on the top right.

I'll say that this ONLY occurs when I'm viewing a completely white page. But this happens often as I am reading lots PDFs.

Not sure if I'll be looking to exchange for another one. Seems like a bit of a lottery at this point.

I had this problem with my 3GS and had to exchange a couple of times. I ended up giving up and dealing with a yellowish bar on the bottom of the screen.

So far on my iPad I have not seen this issue. If it is there, it's too hard for me to see it.

Try shutting your ipad off then turning it back on and if that doesnt work restore it using itunes then turn it off and back on.

I know that sounds a bit crazy but try it... its worked on a 2nd gen touch and 3G iphone. Stopped any screen tinting issues

Half the people don't see it until I cover the top with a sheet of A4 and then it's obvious enough. Good luck convincing the apple store.

Does no one use their set in the dark? Do we all only use it during the day at a brightly lit office?

Check for micro cracks and fissures, especially around the buttons. I here those are on your iPad too.

Oh yeah and listen to it, because the speaker is probably not working right.

Very interesting (read: suspicious) phenomena, isn't it?

The problem now is this thread is highly ranked for it, so everyone who spills their lemonade is googling and coming to this thread to report.

Mine was the same as yours.

I have a brown box UK replacement after 2 dodgy screens, one dust and the other a dead pixel and both had even temperatures but this one, which is perfect every other way is a bit cooler on the left, as was my iPhone 3GS - so, this is one iPad I'm sticking with at the moment!

I'd much rather have this than dust or a dead pixel!

Guys i definatly think i have colour issues with my screen, the colours are completely different shades compared to all my other screens on the house. They seem more yellowish and I'll looking, twitter is a prime example it looks fine and blue coloured on my the devices but on my ipad its green looking.... Deviantart looks really bad too very very unhealthy looking yellowish.

Iv put a picture from my MacBook pro onto my netbook and it looks practically the same but on the ipad the colours are horrible....

just got mine yesterday and everything seems fine. have a mb pro, have had every iphone, ipods, now an ipad and i dont notice any coloring issues.

yes i do have bad eyes but i am wearing my glasses :)

My 3G 64GB has the yellow tint issue too. The left hand side is significantly whiter/brighter than the right and can easily be seen when the keyboard is onscreen... It's been bugging me for a few days now and I'll be ringing Apple for a replacement.

My original iPad (Purchased on launch day) had perfect color balance, however it had dust under the screen. I took it to Apple 2 weeks ago and they promptly replaced it. I noticed the yellow tint issue and took the device back as soon as I could. The genius claimed she could not see it (it is just as clear and affects the same portion of the screen as the other photos posted above) and took it to the back to have a closer look. After showing it to the "lead genius" they determined it was normal and that, "every display is going to have some variation". If this were a more minor issue I would likely not mind but it is very obvious and frankly obstructs my usage of the iPad. I expressed this to her but she refused to replace the replacement iPad. Any suggestions on what I should do from here? Should I attempt the online AppleCare replacement?

Guys with the screens with yellow tints... are you 3G owners? I have had 2 3g iPads now with the same issue. (But looking at the display wifi models in the apple store they have a much nicer cool colour)....

i wonder if the 3G's have a different screen

Yup. Somehow only newbies seem to have these type of problems.

3G here as well. The wifi models I've seen have them as well. The apple store have the most perfect lighting so its hard to point out the issue.

I work with an experienced photographer. I showed him my iPad and asked him to look carefully at the display. He could not see a thing wrong. I then asked him to turn off the lights and straight away he pointed out the flaw to me.

I'm returning it for my money back. I'll try again a month later

I got my 3G iPad maxed out the brightness temporarily started a new safari browser window with keyboard minimized - no yellow / colour temp issue at all - pure white and this was down in a pitch black room.

Good luck with backlight. I'm waiting for refund.

My second and third iPad 3G has uneven backlight (the first has dust under the glass). Unbelievable (try your iPad with 100% backlight and a black screen into a dark room... )

The iPhones have this issue as well. I think it's pretty normal for most displays to do this to some degree.

When I got my 3GS it was immediately apparent to me that the screen got warmer towards the bottom. That one had a stuck pixel so I returned it. The replacement was also warmer towards the bottom, but came with dust under the screen so I returned that too. The third had no pixel or dust problems but guess what, it was warmer towards the bottom.

My old 3G had a nice even screen, but after 3/3 uneven screens on the 3GS I decided to live with it. After a couple of months I didn't even see it anymore. It doesn't bother me now and I only see if it I try to look for it.

To make matters worse Apple seem to use more than one screen supplier in most products. Unfortunately this means you're in for a bit of luck in which screen you get. This really annoys me about their products, because you don't know what you're getting when you buy it. You might be lucky and get the better (more even in this case) screen or not.

For those that don't see it, you might have one of the good screens or maybe you just aren't that critical. I showed my phone to a few people at work and only one of them could see the yellowing towards the bottom. I was surprised by that as it was clear as day to me.
