Mines perfect, had your eyes checked lately?

Actually most people seeing the issue in this thread are most likely digital artists/professionals who have noticed this. It is an issue, the colours are not managed in the iphone OS either... so you are not seeing the right tint of colours compared to other devices...

If you want proof then here...

http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/ipad-hardware-accessories/197755-color-management-test-ipad.html

Try that on your ipad or iphone and I bet its blue... because the colours are not right... if you think its some weird trick as well then... save the image on your desktop then email yourself it to your ipad it will go blue....

Thus its not us who need our eyes testing

the back lighting thing really annoys me I have an area on my screen where it really stands out on black images... quite annoying and im on my 3rd ipad now because of screen issues.

im more bothered about colours being different to other screens the most.... wish we had some sort of colour calibration settings option...

My 3G is what I would call a little warm too. This can be positive for photos, but still just a little annoying, especially when sitting next to my PowerMac. It is very even, however. I am going to go out to compare to others at the Apple store just to see. They must have a dozen out there!

Like you mentioned, it would be great to have some type of color control on the iPad. In fact, it might help Apple out a little as they would have fewer returns to deal with.

I noticed the yellow tint on my right side also. Question for you guys all though who haven't made exchanges. Do you get a refurb or a new one? I ordered mine off of amazon and just got it in the mail like a week ago or so. I know I can go to Apple and they will swap since it's been under the year warranty but will it be a refurbished?

Thanks in advance guys.

Here are two picture of my iPad. What do you think? I can see a colour shift from bottom right to left up.

If you have a perfect screen could please post a picture? I can´t believe that there is a screen without this issue. Thank you very much for your answers.

Every ipad I have seen has the same issue, which is the backlight is brighter on the left side in portrait than the right. Very disappointing and annoying to look at. Definately a design flaw.

I've seen about 30 iPad's and they all have a slight shift. Some are worse than others.

Mine is one of better ones thank god but I've yet to see one without it. Threads like this can be quite misleading because some people just can't see it, so it makes you think some are perfect..... They might be, but I can only go by what I've seen.

Interestingly enough though the three people who can see it are made up of two graphic designers and one photographer. The Mrs can't see it, neither could the genius' in the Apple store and all the people who've bought them in the Newcastle Apple store because they've never heard of the complaint, even though every display model had it.

I also have a slight yellow tint issue as mentioned by everyone. Not horrible, but somewhat noticeable. Has anyone been able to exchange their yellow tint for non-yellow tint and can post a pic. Also how was the genius bar in terms of exchanges on ones that aren't extremely noticeable. I feel that I will likely get a bunched of confused faces and a headache. It's mostly noticeable when the keyboard is out-not so much when hidden. Thx

I have the same yellow tint issues.

iPad 32gb wifi. The screen is cool blue on the left but towards the right there is a yellow over tone. Note: this is my 2nd replacement, the 1st was replaced because of a dead ac adapter - My 1st also exhibited the yellow tint problem but was not as apparent as the 2nd.

Some what Lucking for me I'm still within my 14day money back period.

Undecided on whether I will swap this in or get a refund. I really can't be bothered with the stress of going through ipads in the hope that one will be fine. Also I would not trust Apples brown box replacements their all refurbs.

I went through this same issue with the iPhone 3G's but that had to do with the finishing of the case. (I'll try and post pics if I can get my hand on a decent camera)

And as for people not seeing the problem I genuinely believe they just haven't noticed it. I've compared my pad with my friends & he has the same issue. I think it's wide spread but is just a case Of whether you notice it or not. Test = lights off. Blank safari page & a complete rotate of the screen.

Good luck with backlight. I'm waiting for refund.

My second and third iPad 3G has uneven backlight (the first has dust under the glass). Unbelievable (try your iPad with 100% backlight and a black screen into a dark room... )

So it's not even noticeable unless you make your entire screen black, and barely noticeable at that. Some people will never be pleased.

I'm trying to debate whether to return it for another one. I'm sure that I will end with another yellow one though.

Ok so here's the latest.

1st iPad - No light leakage, no dead pixels, cool left, warm right screen.

I returned it.

2nd Brand New iPad - No light leakage, no dead pixels, display overall dull. Apple saw it and acknowledged a fault straight away once they saw it and since they had no stock asked me to return it so I did.

3rd Brand New iPad - Light leakage at 2 points, no dead pixels, very slight colour difference between left and right however with a blue line, the left appears blue and the right appears cyan. More warm than the demo units (very much like the 3G vs 3GS screen). I'm returning it.

I'm done with iPads. I'm over it. Till next year.

My first one had a lot of light leakage, so I returned it and the second was fine. Never had the yellowing issue.

LCD's are never going to be perfect. LCD televisions are the same way. I doubt some in the forum will ever be satisfied, so maybe stick to CRT or Plasma displays.

Ok...

1st: light bleed on both sides. Non yellow screen.
2nd: light bleed right side. Yellow warm screen.
3rd: light bleed on both sides. Yellow warm screen.
4th: light bleed right side. Yellow warm screen.

I've just tried to get one without light bleed and yellow screen - even the genius last time saw it obviously. Said he had the same problem. Not sure how anyone is getting perfect screens.

My colleague at work got hers in the second shipment and her's is cool and has such a slight colour in-balance it's insignificant. So I consider her's a perfect set assuming no dead pixels or light leakage.

Now I believe apple has moved to a warmer screen setup. The last few sets I've seen have all the warmer tone. I don't know personally of anyone who has in the last 2-3weeks bought an iPad 3G with the launch week blue coolness.

My screen has a yellow problem. If it was the same consistent shade I wouldn't have said anything but the right side is yellow and the left bright white. I think it looks naff so that's why I googled. I'm taking it into the apple store and showing them. They would struggle to spot it as my hubby even saw it straight away he's not that bothered by these things normally.

After looking at quite a few recent 3Gs this is my take too. I would be so happy if Apple would just add a screen color slider--warm to cool, or temperature, or something, to the settings page . . .

A friend just purchased a 64g wifi last week and his screen was much warmer than mine (almost too red). You'd honestly never even notice it though, unless you has two Pads side by side (or had a good eye for color).

At least anyone interested . . .;)

Go to this link and request a White Balance slider in Settings. Could be as simple as "Cool to Warm" or as advances as color temperature.

Nice for us and fewer returns for Apple!

Nice to see a positive approach to a problem, plus a practical suggestion for action.

That is extremely rare here at MacRumors forums and on our planet in general.

Bravo JonMPLS!

The slider won't work. If at default settings one set shows difference in screen temperature do you think pushing the slider for both is going to make them look the same? This is more an issue of quality control.

If I were to push the sliders to cool extreme on both the sets, one is still going to look warmer than the other.

As I said before the difference is between a launch ipAd and the ipads now are the same screen differences between the 3G iPhone and the 3GS. One way more warmer than the other.

While I can understand differences between LCD panels do exist. The range apple uses is simply too wide.

not expecting perfection, but even my Oly EPL1 lets me tweak the color temp of the screen a little. In an ideal world you could calibrate it like my Macbook . . .

but still thrilled with my iPad!!!!

I'm having the same issue with my ipad's right side being yellower/warmer than the left. I've tried to live with it, but anything on a white, pale blue, or gray background illuminates the issue. No matter how I rotate the ipad, the gradient is present along the side to the right of the home button.

I had a genius bar appointment scheduled last week, but like others on this forum I noticed the same issue on all the display models. It is not something that is instantly noticeable to most. However, once you point it out or recognize it you cannot ignore it. It is easy to get used to an overall warmer or cooler tint on a display. However, when a screen is not uniformly warm or cool but instead has a white to yellow gradient that spans the screen of the device, it is distracting. Under bright lights, the issue is not as apparent. However, during low-light reading sessions, you are more likely to see it as your eyes travel quickly across the iPad's screen from side to side.

I am not here to complain as much as I am to just echo what other posters have said. LCD technology is far from perfect and perhaps some users have a greater tolerance that does not allow them to see the defect. After seeing the same issue on many iPads in the wild and within the Apple Store, I am no longer trying to get my iPad replaced.

Anyways, just my two cents. Enjoy your iPads, whether you see the issue or not.
