Seriously, you'd have to be a moron to buy the 1.0 version of the iPad. But you just know there will be scores of dimwits sleeping outside the Apple stores the night before the iPad goes on sale.

Excuse me, but some of us have careers in which our clients expect us to have this technology, so yes, I will be in line and my bank account will thank me.

Not that I will buy 1.0, but if you had no need for a camera - which a large percentage don't - why would you care?

I will say the first time I see some inconsiderate Jack off talking on the one of these things next to me on the subway or in a starbucks, they may find my coffee accidentally spill on it! It's my biggest fear behind the coming wave of portable video conferencing!

1st generation products are for the suckers.
Need a USB port? Buy our new third gen iPad.
Try to keep up, Sparky:

Is that image showing parts of what would be a front facing camera? Anyway, definitely hoping the front-facing camera makes it! Sure, I was disappointed about it not being on the device shown at last week's unveiling. Would be nice to do the iChat/video conferencing somehow through VoIP. Even if the front-facing camera doesn't make it to the final product that will ship in March and April, I'll gladly take one home, nonetheless :apple:

Well if the iPhone is any indication , you would have to wait a year for a rev2 . For only 500 bucks , why would you want to miss out on a year of having fun with it? Life is short.

It seems that Apple took the camera out of the touch and the iPad because the software for face recognition and iChat in iPhone OS 4.0 has not yet been perfected.

If apple was concerned about perfection they wouldn't launch any products .

Only closed minded morons think this way.

There are people out there who can afford to buy Rev A then upgrade to Rev B & beyond, while doing a hand me downs to fellow family members. Especially, people who love their gadgets. :D

If cameras ever DO come out for these new products it will be because iChat AV is ready for the Windows platform and not before.

and everyone using Windows side messenger systems will switch to ichat which is rarely used by mac users :)

I never understand this line of thinking. Most people whom are early adopters understand that technology moves forward irregardless. If I have disposable income, and want something, why should I hold off because there will be something better in v2? I also have the added benefit of having usage of the device for the first year, which while not directly quantifiable, serves some purpose as well.

It reminds me of all the people who told me I was crazy to spend $600 on the iPhone when it first came out, and then further mocked me when Apple dropped the price by $200. If your life is substantially altered by ~$200, then maybe luxury gadgets shouldn't be a concern irregardless. Plus, between Apple giving me a $100 credit and me selling the phone unlocked on eBay, I actually came out ahead lol. How's that for being a moron....

My money's on this surfacing in the 2nd gen iPad. By then Apple will have some other neat tricks up its sleeves to unveil to the unwashed masses, and we'll ooh and ahh over what's new and improved and hate and rage over the fact that OS X 10.7 Cougar isn't on there and how it still looks like a giant iPod Touch, even if it is so amazingly comfortable to hold. Then they'll release some iPad-branded variant of Photo Booth and everyone will rush out in groves to their nearest  store to give it a try and the internets will once again be flooded with photos plagued by the horrors of filters such as Popart, Fisheye, and Mirror. Oh good golly gosh, I can't wait.

Just my three cents.

Apple smartened up and realized not everything needs to have a freaking camera on it.

Especially a 10x8 flat device.

Video conferencing isn't all bad. I would imagine most people doing so with family or friends would have the decency to use discretion when in public with this thing. I don't know, we'll see.

Anyone notice Steve didn't do his famous "one last thing..." this time round?

Maybe he'll do it right before iPad goes on sale? And we'll get our beloved camera and, heck, multitasking too! Who knows?

It certainly wouldn't hurt to 'refresh' the buzz in late March. Would it?
