Exactly, I bet there are some senior staff members at Apple US who would be shocked to learn that Apple UK haven't updated their website basically since January 27th.

No no! They have. There is a picture of the Guardian website on the front page which was added when the US release date was announced. But notice how on the US it says 9.41pm, we don't get a pm, apparently it requires to much man-power.

You rule!! I have been away from Euskal Herria for 10 months and how badly I miss it!!

Yes, I think nowadays people travel more and the product is from the same company anyway. I think it would be just right if the warranty would cover worldwide..

But I can't wait. I have been saving money and it will be a great tool to learn English. If it breaks, i can still go to London for a short trip to do up the ipad. But thinking again.. it could be a long wait in London, couldn't it?
I had to wait for my mac mini in Bilbao and I think it was around 1 week :S

Tomorrow I will go to Edinburgh on a trip. I will try to be tuned anyway

Cheers!!

The whole process of taking a product into the Apple store, having them check it and seeing if you're eligible for repair/replacement, and getting a new one back takes about 5 days max usually - my iPhone took just 3 days! It depend son if they are fixing it or replacing it really, and also their stock (but that should be fine for iPad). You don't need a home address in the UK either, you do everything in the Apple Store. So this might be a possibility if you able to easily pop back to the UK!

Enjoy Edinburgh, it's probably the most beautiful city on the island.

He didn't reply to my last e-mail which i sent a couple of weeks ago. I have tried again and this time i literally begged ;)

I just think i have to make friends with some Apple Store employees!

You could call up an Apple Store and pretend to be an employee, "er yeah hey it's Mike um, apparently I'm not allowed the 24th off, is that right?" lmao.. Long shot but worth a try ;)

Anything is possible with UK Apple prices, would be a bit of a kick in the nuts though if prices are indeed that (I reckon 399, 499, 599 but wouldnt suprise me if your right)

I think an entry-level of even 399 GBP would be too high. 350 would be ideal, 369 would be fine.

I find it slightly ironic that iPad's advertised on the Apple site as at an "unbelievable price" when the price isn't even announced. They're certainly setting high standards! I hope they live up to them.

You can't expect an American company to take a hit on their prices simply because we have an awful exchange rate at the moment. ;)

i know, let me crunch:

499 usd is 330 gbp. So they evidently won't sell it at that price.
Raising the price to 369 would be a levy of about 10% which seems appropriate to me, particularly considering that gbp is so low that it can't really sink much further. That said, I await the General Election's consequences with a little anxiety!

It might well be unbelievable. As in 'I can't believe it will be cheaper to import one from the States' :(

You need to factor in 17.5% VAT as well.

Even at £350 they're going to have significant profit margins, Apple is only just realising that at the right price their products do actually have mass appeal, let's see if they can bring themselves to take advantage of that even in countries where the exchange rate isn't ideal currently.

US pricing always excludes sales tax.

$499 USD = ~£330 GBP at the moment
+ 17.5% VAT
= £387.75

I think we will see the entry model priced at £399+ IMHO. And Apple have 'justified' price discrepancies in press interviews before by saying that it costs more to import stuff to the UK, costs more to run their operations in Europe, blah, blah. They conveniently seem to forget that EVERY device they make is imported into the US from China too! So it may even be £429.

What is the most that you guys will spend on getting one. If the base model came in at £500 for example would you still buy it? I want to buy the 3G but I don't really want to spend any more than £600.

That's my gut feeling. Entry level pricing needs to be eye-catching and a price starting with a 3 would be. £500 would be totally bloody ridiculous, £!=$ and the days of Apple being able to get away with that are long gone. Times are tough and if Apple want to sell these things, they'll have to price them correctly. Hopefully they've learned the lessons of the iPhone 2G and MacBook Air launches.

I believe now would be an opportune time to use that horrible cliché, facepalm. Some people don't seem to understand the concept of VAT. They will sell the iPad at the same at the US price. Say around £330. VAT on that is about another £60. Therefore, a realistic price of somewhere in the region of £390-400. It's not that complex; US buyers have to add sales tax at the point of sale. While nowhere in the US has sales tax as high as the UK, it's just to be expected. We do live in a socialist mess. Too many pussyfooting Tory governments afraid to upset the working class. :D

.. Bollocks:

High demand in the United States for Apple's new iPad tablet computer has cast doubt over when the product will be available in New Zealand.
The iPad, which is like a simplified laptop, went on sale in the United States overnight on Saturday.
Apple's sole New Zealand distributor, Renaissance Corporation, says it is still in talks with the manufacturer to confirm a New Zealand release date.
Renaissance chief executive Richard Webb says the reason for the delay is not entirely clear, but he understands it may be due to heavy demand for the product in the United States.
Technology commentator Ben Gracewood says there is nothing to stop people importing the product.

Not looking good..

At the end of the day, our taxes are spent on more important things than iPad. You'll realise that if ever they do drop.

I think anything south of £399 for a UK guesstimate is very ambitious. I like the sound of £369 myself but honestly can't see it.

I'm more interested in how much the incremental step ups will amount to. I've got my eyes on a 32GB+ 3G unit.. would love a price for that around about now..

That 17.5% tax has to support the probably 1m+ benefit claimants from cradle to grave who never work a day in their life, don't you know!

And sorry, but another off-topic thought for the day...

I wonder what will happen come July when the new iPhone models come out? Now that we have multiple UK networks clamouring for a piece of your iPhone business, will they offer good retention deals for you to stay on their networks? They never subsidised the price of the iPhone further than the standard table of tariffs on prior models. I wonder what O2 will do if I threaten to leave after 9 years of continual service?

Anyway, back on topic, I have emailed Stevie. Will post back if I get a reply. :D

Won't make a difference to the UK. The UK is a major market, whereas New Zealand is not. They don't even have an Apple Store.

I sure hope you're right, it's 1pm and the Apple Store is still up, we're not getting anything today.

Am I the only one getting that sinking feeling that tomorrow, the day after and the day after that are going be similarly uneventful..

Interesting point, made me remember about these microsims, does any network here use them?

Nice work!

I think we'll see more and more of the SIM only deals aimed at iPhone users, tbh. The sales model (as far as I understand it) means that some of the revenue from monthly line rental gets paid back to Apple hence the lack of deals by the networks. Be interesting to see if any of them stick their head above the parapet and offer an amazing deal to nick all the customers, but I doubt it.

Good luck with your email to SJ. I emailed him once as it took Apple UK about 6 months to process a refund from the online store and they kept fobbing me off. Got a phone call that day, money was in my account the next day.

If its a bank holiday then I believe that Wednesday is normally the announcement day rather than Tuesday. Or they have done some on Fridays.
