Who here is so sad that they have downloaded free iPad apps from the US store and is now just looking at them wishing they had an iPad? *raises hand*

Me too, but I"ve been downloading them from the UK store (yes, iPad appsa re available in the UK store, talk about teasing us! Just search for iPad in apps.)

Recently I'd have been joining some of you in the Exeter store (I drove down there to get my iPHone, but since then, Apple have opened TWO :D apple stores in Bristol, so now it's a case of choosing which one will likely be quietest. I'm thinking Cribbs Causeway, but I work closer to Broadmead, so if I"m on night shift that could be the better option.

There's no chance of me going to an Apple store for the eventual UK launch to get my iPad - I've been registered blind for the last ten years and use a white guide cane to get about. The fiance has a guide dog - who is admittedly brilliant at pushing to the front of queues without us even knowing he's doing it ;) but no way on earth would I (nor we) subject my / ourself to a big crowd. We're not the sort of visually impaired people who want everyone to run around us helping and giving us the red carpet treatment at busy events either, so I wouldn't play the disability card to get preferential treatment (though I know plenty of people who would, and do !)

So it's an order from the online Apple store as soon as I can.

FWIW my local Apple emporium is Chapelfield in Norwich, but I've only ever been there once. My credit card was crying in fear too hard for me to dare stay that long. :)

I have also downloaded some ipad apps from the app store (I'm sad and proud of it !) - I got the ibooks app from the US store thanks to a link in a post on here about how to register for a US account from other countries. As an aside, can one fund a US itunes account by buying itunes gift vouchers in some way ? Like, maybe a person might want to buy a gift card for someone in another country (so you could use this method to buy yourself US vouchers) ? Just wondering.

Yep, you can eBay the codes and fund a US account that way.

Opening one here would relieve the pressure on Southampton a bit.

Last I read they were thinking of actually closing down smaller ones like Exeter and instead opening giant ones in bigger cities. So closing down the two in Bristol and the 1 in Exe and just being a vast one in Bristol.

Not a good idea imo.

In fact they could keep the smaller ones open and open a massive on in Bristol and still they'd all be full most of the day.

Opening more than 2 in Scotland might be an idea too . . .

Someone supposedly in the know told me the unit Apple wants in Princes Street, but the current tenants won't give up the lease. Sigh. :(

I'd just like to know the price of this thing so I can stop thinking about it :p

tbh I find the apple stores not helpful

My nearest is Exeter. They sold me the wrong MBP and after that i got my stuff from internet store of Apple. After i installed snow leopard my MBP became extremely sluggish, i booked a genius bar appointment (two weeks!!) and got nowhere, I phoned the help desk and it was solved within thirty minutes (ok I had to wait for thirty minutes)
Don't get me wrong I really like the Apple store, nice people, nice interior always makes me feel good to walk through the store. The area is nice with some good restaurants.
But for my purchases I go online.

And for my iPad I go to Seattle (not completely for and iPad, more to see my wife and kid)

Thanks for starting this thread by the way

Are Apple UK asleep?

I mean, Apple is currently in one of the most exciting phases they go through, a product launch, and the Apple Store UK is sitting pretty as if nothing is going on!

I really, really want them to announce pricing as soon as possible.

My main point though: Has anyone tried e-mailing Jobs about the matter? A while back people would ask him questions about tethering and battery life, couldn't we ask him what the pricing is? Or maybe he'll be surprised Apple UK have done sod all for his product launch and give them a good shouting at?

This thread is turning into an ipad version of the MBP thread "still waiting for arrandale thread" just for uk peeps.

lets hope for info on tuesday........

i am starting to think if apple don't tell us soon then we wont get a pre order and it will just be a scrum at local apple shops at launch.

willing to wager 50p it slips to early may, like when late march turned into early april...... gonna happen all part of the products very calculated uber hyping

ebay unbelievable

I want an ipad, but I would never go the ebay route.

(have i7 coming this week so that will keep me going).

I have been watching ebay and ipads sell all day. The current £-$ exchange rate on the 4/4/10 was $1.59 to the £1.

32gb wifi ipads are selling on ebay.co.uk for around £600, we did see one sell for £511 ($777) and a few buy it now at £588 ($894) the most expensive I have seen was the 64gb sell for £831 + £30 for fast ship thats $1309 the cost to the person selling it $699 making a profit of $610!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apple surely have people watching ebay and can see the money other people are making selling on the ipad.

I bought a 32GB fairly cheap from eBay on Sat (I live in the Falklands hence no import fees or VAT)

This is what I paid in paypal inc postage (I believe under UK price)

From amount £496.91 GBP
To amount $740.01 USD
Exchange rate: 1 GBP = 1.48922 USD

Its on its way :D

Crazy idea.. I was thinking of using some airmiles and heading to NYC to get a few - only £200 (as you only pay the taxes). If I could purchase 4 iPads when there that would probably cover the fare. Trouble is, could I get through customs with 3 in a suitcase?! I'm thinking maybe not!? Either way it could be cheaper than either eBay or Bundlebox.

Anyway, crazy idea but thought I would share!

Cool, that's not to bad & its not like you could nip down the apple shop !!! Have you always lived in the Falklands ? My dad was out there for a few years with the RAF in the late 80's..

Could you put up with spending that long on a plane just for an iPad? I hate international flights unless I'm flying first class, and even then it's only pleasant because of the included champagne.

I have to import everything lol - I have bought, unlocked and sold about 15 iPhones for my mates here.

I am actually from Wales but lived here since 88, I pop back to UK regularly as I miss a good Indian and Chinese :D

I monitored ebay all weekend, I gathered that US people have no interest for the iPad therefore I kept a lookout around midnight on ebay whilst Europe were sleeping (we are four hours behind) and managed to snatch the iPad at a good price using www.justsnipe.com!!
