I think these prices sound about right £379 is a price point down from £399 if Apple are going for the whole 'extraordinary price' route. :)

Apple selling the iPad for less than in the US would truly be extraordinary, and extremely unlikely. The pound is 1.5 to the dollar at the moment.

Take the base 16GB wi-fi iPad at $499, divide by 1.5 and add 17.5%VAT and you've already got £391.

Add import duty and customs on that and there's just no chance it could be £379.

Don't forget the dreaded VAT which the post above yours had already explained.

That's not direct conversion. If it was it would look like this without VAT+taxes+:apple:

$499 = £329 = €370 as of right now open market rates.

£399 at the absolute lowest imho

but regards taxes, the only tax apple would have to pay would be the VAT - im not 100% just a hunch but i believe that customs/import tax does not apply to this category item?

quote; "Normally this sort of thing would entail a prohibitive import fee, but because the iPad technically counts as an "automatic data processing machine" it's duty-free under UK customs law."

I'm personally disgusted by the way the rest of the world has been treated concerning the ipad.

It's like they personally don't care about the other markets at all, life doesn't evolve around America, Apple.

To not even be given a price is absurd, people need to save for the thing you know! and the vague 'End Of April' could mean from the 20th to the 30th!

I understand Macrumours have to cater for worldwide Apple news, but lately it's been overload about the American launch..talk about rubbing salt in the wound!

I'm personally annoyed..and thats not even including the amount of topics banging on about UPS delivery's etc...

AND to top it all off, UK will have to pay even more for the damn thing!

Not impressed.com!

Exactly. I don't find comparisons to other products helpful as Apple have made a big deal of how they are going for a "wow" factor with the price, which makes me think they'll try and make it cheaper than some of the more conservative/like-for-like estimates on here.

I'm annoyed at waiting but I'm not under any illusions about it:

The US is Apple's biggest market. The 'second wave' countries are the next biggest. The UK is Apple's second largest market outside the US.

The last Apple product we had to wait for was the original iPhone which we had to wait nearly 5 months for! So, a month isn't that big a deal I don't think. We get every other product iPods, new iMacs, MacBooks, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS at the same time.

So while, naturally, I would have liked a simultaneous worldwide release I'm not angry about it. It's not too long now...it's April tomorrow!

I think we're all just a bit cheesed off with the lack of any information forthcoming re pricing, dates etc, which is exacerbated by the knowledge that the US forumites will be getting their iPads this weekend :(

Oh I'm totally with you. I'm mad jealous. But I would not be at all surprised if we saw a pricing and pre-ordering announcement timed to capitalise on the US launch hysteria over the weekend. An announcement tomorrow or Friday announcing prices and pre-orders opening next week for an end-of-April release.

Fingers crossed.

What's bugging me even more is that I have the money all ready to go and am just looking at it in my online banking screen. Might get tempted to spend it all on something else.

So TUAW is breaking news that Canadian Apple Store employees are indicating an April 24th iPad release there (blackout on staff holidays that weekend)... possible release date for UK too?
I hope so!!!

I think the worry is that the American Launch is extremely hyped and obviously the ipad will sell out.

They'll probably delay the ipad for the rest of the world (again) till at least June to keep up with demand in America. Thats what i'm gearing myself up for anyway...i can't see this ending pretty.

This echos my own fears, and reason why I decided to get a US one shipped over at launch. No date, No price and probably very limited numbers...

Hopefully Im wrong for all the other UK iPad would be owners!

If they delay again, I won't buy this generation of the iPad and would have serious doubts that I'll ever pick one up, so this is one loyal customer they will lose I'm afraid.

I think we should all calm down and see how everything plays out - the Source of all the April 24 rumors is
http://www.ipadincanada.ca/ipad-news/ipad-launch-date-in-canada-april-24th/

Seems quite plausible to me. Not sure whether we shall be able to pre-order as soon as Friday, but the April 24, should the Apple Store rumor be true, looks very promising. After all, we are only 24 days away :)

No offence though, but any source could say a date at the 'end of april' and it maybe it...24 days away would be great though! Just a waiting game..again.

I'm with JonnyIreland on this one, i won't buy one if they delay it again!

Someone is trying to screw me out of cash they own me. I would order one today so I could charge them for it. Might not have the opportunity to see any of that money next week.

Time Capsule

Time Capsule is $499, iPad is $499.

In the UK, Time Capsule is £388, iPad is going to somewhere around £389? I'm guessing £399.

Um... wow, it wil have been seriously better than it is now.. jeez..

I think the rate was similar at this time last year (just a little bit better) but no idea what it was when Time Capsule was released.

Who knows... maybe Apple will deliberately try to keep the price competitive.

Just had a nano second of excitement, when I went onto the Apple store and saw the words 'Pre Order'. Then noticed I'd picked the wrong bookmark and gone to the US store by mistake.

Now all the reviews are coming out Stateside, its making me even worse. If they don't put up UK pre orders soon, I'll be tempted to get one off eBay :(
