Exchange rate will have a big influence on the price

I've managed to get a 64gb iPad on order through Apple.com which is being delivered to the UK by Bundlebox. The charge from Apple appeared on my CC this morning:

31/03 31/03 APL*APPLEONLINESTOREUS
CURRENCY: USD, CURRENCY AMOUNT: 740.94, EXCHANGE: 1.46 506.34

As you can see the current exchange rate is awful so when they finally announce the UK prices I'm sure this will have a big influence. Of course as they say things that go down can always go up (and visa versa..).

I also have pay for the forward shipping but the iPad should be in my hands by the middle of next week. Just the price you pay for being an early adopter.

:)

Just had a nano second of excitement, when I went onto the Apple store and saw the words 'Pre Order'. Then noticed I'd picked the wrong bookmark and gone to the US store by mistake.

Now all the reviews are coming out Stateside, its making me even worse. If they don't put up UK pre orders soon, I'll be tempted to get one off eBay :(

Ah, we've all been there. In fact that happens to me on a near daily basis! hehe

if u get nabbed for the VAT that will be £88.60 (ouch!) lets hope it slips through, on the bright side u should be excluded from import duty :)
best of luck hope u enjoy it! have u nay idea of how long the shipping will take, did u pay for express?

Expect the prices to be £499, £599 and £699 for the wifi models.

and £599, £699 and £799 for 3G models

with the WiFi models, if your pricing is true then it would be cheaper to purchase, import, add customs and excise taxes to the iPad from America.... :apple:

I've done the same as Ratty, and Bundlebox take care of all the fees. Therefore, you pay approx £120 to bundlebox and that covers the shipping fees (on a 2 day service with Fedex), Bundlebox fees and any Duty.

I expect it will work out costing approx £50 extra over the eventual UK price for the benefit of having it early.

they should get prices and/or preorders up ASAP, to take advantage of the US launch weekend.

i really hope so!

it's getting really frustrating, not even know what the prices will be, let along pre-order dates (if any)...

hopefully very soon after easter weekend we'll get some info

I too have an iPad ordered with Bundlebox (16GB Wi-Fi), However I'm becoming increasingly concerned it will not arrive at my box for Saturday.

Yesterday, CEO Andre Schmidt posted this on the official BundleBox blog:

Hey Jack and all other Bundleer iPad fans -

On Monday we started to receive shipping confirmations for the iPads that we ordered and until yesterday all looked fine.
Last night Apple canceled a batch of orders for which we had not received a shipping confirmation yet. This morning we will get the full picture
of the orders that got canceled and contact our customers that were affected by this.

The orders for which we have received shipping confirmation seem unaffected
and we are awaiting still a number of shipping confirmations.

So lets keep our fingers crossed.

I can’t tell you how we went about circumventing Apple’s hurdles to avoid Apple canceling more orders.
I can tell you that it has been a tremendous amount of work, and that many people have helped us.
That makes it especially disappointing that Apple canceled some orders.

Not a happy bundling day

Andre

Since then, I have tried to get confirmation from Bundlebox if my order has gone through the system successfully,
and/or if the order now reflects "Prepared for Shipment" on Apple.com.

While I have received confirmation they have ordered the product on my behalf,
they say they'll have an update on the latter "probably later today".

I ordered mine directly from Apple (using my UK Natwest Visa Debit), using Bundlebox as the shipping address. Everything seems to be going through fine - have received shipment notification (although UPS currently shows it as still being in China). Fingers crossed mine will arrive as planned.

This is very interesting!!!

I presumed only a US credit / debit card would work on Apple US???? I have some family in US but couldn't be bothered hassling them with bank transfers etc however them forwarding on would not be a problem.

I didn't expect it to work either, but thankfully it did :)

I've heard a few other people say that their bank called them to check it was ok first, and it promptly went through thereafter. I didn't receive a call, but have done in the past when ordering from overseas.

Cool - I might give my bank the heads up first!!

I also ordered directy with Apple using a UK credit card. After clearing the 'normal' credit card authorisation query the order was confirmed by Apple (19/03). Today my credit card shows the charge from Apple (also an invoice showing up in my Apple account) and I have shipping confirmation although the status still shows as being in China like a lot of other people:

SHENZHEN, CN 03/30/2010 6:41 P.M. ORIGIN SCAN
CN 03/30/2010 9:18 P.M. BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED

I do expect to see this with Bundlebox on 4/3 and then on to the UK during next week.

We shall see, nothing ventured, nothing gained!

:)

and £599, £699 and £799 for 3G models

iPad: US vs UK
WiFi
$499(£328) vs £499($759)
$599(£394) vs £599($911)
$699(£459) vs £699($1,063)

3G
$629(£414) vs £599($911)
$729(£479) vs £699($1,063)
$829(£545) vs £799($1,215)

iPhone: US vs UK
3G
$99(£65) vs £349($531)

3GS
$199(£131) vs £449($683)

I think the pricing will be this one, but still hope will be at least £50 cheaper and I guess at most could be £100 cheaper, but I don't expect this much.

Still Jobs said at an "unbelivable price" lets pray for it :D

Is there any shipping weight info mate? Trying to determine shipping costs!

Also what was your final cost in £ for ordering from Apple

The iPhone costs aren't really comparable though, are they? AFAIK the iPhone is not PAYG or SIM-free in the US, you have to take out a contract with AT&T.

Still praying for £399. I remember watching the keynote coverage on the blogs and when they said $9.99 for iWork apps, I misread it as $999 for the device

This weekend is going to be so hard, seeing all of the posts from the US folks salivating over their new toy! Hopefully we can say we will have our iPad by the end of the month!

The shipping weight is 1.5kgs, I will sort out the UK shipping costs at the weekend.

The final cost of ordering from Apple was £506.34 (64Gb with US tax).

If I'm calculating this correctly, you're paying an extra £106.97 to ship to you? (as per bundlebox)

Bought via own credit card but using bundle box

Well so far so good, my CC company rang and checked and they said they would authorise it when the full payment came through (cannot see it online yet).

However, the tracking page states:
CHEK LAP KOK, HK 04/01/2010 1:22 P.M. DEPARTURE SCAN
SHENZHEN, CN 03/30/2010 2:58 P.M. ORIGIN SCAN
CN 04/01/2010 4:35 P.M. BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED

So fingers crossed (unless Apple stops it) all is going well!

I worked it out that it would be about £650 for fast delivery, so based on £599 figure (which I think is probably true or closest) I lost £50. However, I have ordered some clothes and other things which as the bundle box works out cheaper when you are sending more to UK I save £75 on those, so hopefully quids in :) And if I decide I want 3g, will get MIFI or jailbreak iPhone....

Though I already get 500 mins free with Openzone I never use, and the cloud network confirmed they were going to do a deal on wifi for iPad too (currently its £3.99 a month for an iPod Touch or £6.99 for a laptop), so may just add that as back up :) £5 a month I can live with for extra hotspots and not having to look for Openzone...

Apple billed my card yesterday, on my statement this morning.

Still nothing on mine yet :-(

Apple billed my card yesterday, on my statement this morning.

Will check tomorrow, but know from past it takes a few days, however hoping it wouldn't of got this far in shipping process if there was an issue...
