For those interested, yes, the $20/mo Verizon plan is a month to month, no contract plan (I read the article!)

Also, particularly interesting from the Apple press release: "Verizon Wireless operates the nation’s most reliable and largest wireless voice and 3G data network . . . "

I wonder if existing AT&T 3G customers can get a reduced mi-fi and get in on the $20 a month?

That would be useful if you don't care about calls.

How useful is a 1 GB data plan? One itunes non HD movie is about 1 GB, right? Even if you didn't download anything (or synced from a desktop); it seems like modern internet usage would eat up a GB in no time.

It really depends on the user. I did perfectly fine with 250MB on my iPad, I got close on the last day of the month (they sent a notice), so I just quit using it that day. I found I never used more than 120MB on any month on my iPhone so I was very happy about getting the $15/mo plan.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Seems that soon you will be able to purchase an iPad at Macdonalds & the local liquor store!

I don't care. I just want to know if Apple plans to ever release it in the nordic countries

Nah... its made in China and China wouldn't like that.

PS) No need to actually BUY/OWN an iPad anymore, just pop into your nearest
retail outlet and access what you need from the display model (for free).

And all the iPhone rumors where just misunderstood rumors about the iPad going to Verizon.

Well that solves why Apple would need CDMA chips; make iPad users life easier. It also solves all those reports stating iPhone for Verizon in Nov/Oct timeframe, it was the iPad.

Come January all the Verizon CEO will do is announce a native supported iPad. Lol

Making...

The job of competitors more and more difficult to gain traction in the tablet mind set of consumers...
By the time competors get vapor to paper... it will take grit to shift the Apple paragime...

What would stop someone from using MiFi to ALSO share the signal with an iPod Touch and combine with Line2 (or Google Phone, perhaps) to make this a $20 a month iPhone? I think I could live with 1GB a month considering how many places offer WiFi.

I was thinking the same thing. MiFi is a bit more versatile than having your signal tied to one device. I agree 1 gb isn't much data, but for many people it might work fine. I'm paying Verizon $40 a month for my DSL connection. Outside of software updates, I rarely use more than 1 gb. It might be a workable option....

Aple is targeting the future here...

Next year, when the new iPad comes out, all these retailers will have a device (the old ipad) ready to offer on discount. That is why the iPad is going to the likes of walmart and sams club. It is really next year big deal, when the current iPad becomes 'afforble' and the new iPad becomes a 'must have'.

Here are the data plans.

1 GB = $20
3 GB = $35
5 GB = $50

Lol is this 1998?

Sigh. 3 years ago I signed up for an unlimited data plan @ $30/mon.

I see this and think, wtf is going on with wireless data?
........

"Gentlemen, we need to make more money off wireless data. It's time to begin a trend of charging people by the bit, if we're going to still increase profits year over year, for the rest of the foreseeable future."

* Flips switch on new AT&T data plans prior to iPhone 4 launch. *

There is no such thing as month to month with Verizon and the MiFi. Try suspending your MiFi account and see what they say. Unlike AT&T, you can't simply "turn it off" one month and turn it back on another month. They will allow you to "suspend" your account for up to 3 months and then they will start charging you again after the 3 month period is over.

Oh, you can certainly cancel your "monthly" account, but when you want to start it back up again, they hit you with the activation fee, which for me was $50.00.

More choice is good, Verizon solution bad.

More choice is good, Verizon solution bad.

AT&T: For $629, I get the 3G+ WiFi model with a GPS Chip and free access to over 20,000 wireless hotspots.

Verizon: For $629, I only get the Wifi model (no GPS!) and I need to carry around a second device that only has a 4 hour capacity. No GPS, no free Wireless Hotspots. No thanks.

...and do not forget to bring your couch, tv, drinks, girlfriend, kids... you know, bring your house along... so you can use a free iPad.

Where are the anti-VZW people now?

w00master

Here i am. 1gb a month for $20?? if this is anything like their iphone plans will be like, and im sure it is, then verizon can go eff themselves with their slow ass 3G network. Ill keep my at&t unlimited plan that im grandfathered into. oh, and its faster too.

$20 for 1GB though. AT&T have 2GB for $25 without the need of a separate device. AT&T have the better deal on that one.

Doesn't this announcement really say "There will never be a CDMA iPad....hence this is all we can do here at Verizon"?

Agreed with the versatility, but not having the GPS functionality is a limiting factor, considering how many apps use your location to target information...too bad they don't have a mechanism to read the GPS location information from the MiFi device to provide the same level of functionality.

Sorry verizon lovers, but i think verizon fails in all aspects with their ipad launch. mifi with 4 hour battery life and 1gb of data = FAIL
You know what else is funny? I can be sitting at a table with 3 other people with various verizon phones, two berries and a droid for example. When something needs to be looked up, they ask the guy with the iphone because they know it will be faster.

No credit....I actually sent this story to you:mad:

Yours was the seventh submission we received about the story, and I was already working on the article before the first one came in, as we'd spotted it in Apple's press releases.

You didn't really think I wrote our article in the two minutes between the time you submitted the story and we published on it, did you? ;)

It will be equally important to discredit The WSJ, John Gruber, and others toting the vzw iPhone rumors.
