This is a very good demo of the issue, and exactly what I see when using Mini:
The iPad Mini 5 has this too (probably all iPads actually), but in landscape mode instead of portrait. That’s the big difference and why nobody noticed it or cared about it before. The Mini is such a portrait device because of its size, that it doesn’t make sense that Apple changed the controller from top to bottom into left to right on the new Mini. Please stop lying to defend your precious Apple.
I have an iPad mini 5 and an iPad mini 6 next to each other.
The 5 is rock solid scrolling my documents. The 6 looks like you’re reading on a boat in the middle of the sea.
Apple solved the problem before but this time Tim Cook thought he could push his margins even higher.
And not one “YouTube Reviewer/Influencer” said anything about it. So either they got PERFECT units that were designed differently, or more likely, spent more time on their video production than actually testing the darn things. I hope people now see most of them for what they really are.
I honestly miss the days before “influencer” was a thing. We got actual, honest reviews from people who actually cared about good tech.
Are you saying the 5 screen looks better than the 6? How? I have a 5 and have been thinking about upgrading. What cannot be fixed with an update is the poor fuzzy dull screen. Putting the 5 next to the 6 there was no reason to spend the $900 on the new one

Yes the 5 looks better. It’s so frustrating. I was fine with paying the price increase for a better version of the 5, which is a fantastic device.
Price increase and using cheaper components feels like an absolute betrayal.
How in the world is this possible? I thought they had the same screen. Yikes. Maybe I should just replace the battery on my mini and call it good for a few years then.

To you maybe. To me, it looks the same.
Truly hope this can be fixed with a software update. This is not something anyone should have to live with on their brand new iPads. Fingers crossed.
Not funny it’s simple. Android users are for the most part ISED to getting faulty hardware due to paying cheap $ or maybe those that spend so much more for Apple products value each dollar they spend and thus will not allow crap or half-stepping on prudent quality control issues. It’s funny that these issues really get blown out of proportion and get headlines while some recently released (I shall not say names) Android phones have this exact issue but worse and no one seems to bat an eye 🤣
This is moving into 'Gate' territory. Which should get Apple's attention.
The screen is not the best, but the 5's screen wasn't much better, and this new screen is larger.
My feeling is that after a certain point I don't care. Screens have improved in general, to the point of overkill. But this issue may be serious.
It’s not harder to tell on high refresh rate displays. The jelly scroll animation is just smoother with 120hz. I have the Samsung Tab S7 Plus which has this behaviour and speaking from experience. This is a fundamental characteristic of LCD displays (OLED has it too). It exists on all of them whether you notice it or not. It’s noticeable here simply because the display refreshes vertically instead of horizontally in portrait mode. Why they changed the display orientation is beyond me. It’s harder to tell on high refresh rate displays but again, it’s still there. Apple will not issue a fix as it would be extremely difficult to fix through software. If you can’t tolerate it return the device, as it’s not going away.

Is there a fairly modest priced calibration tool that could detect this issue even though as you propose some people are unable to see the issue?or that you don't see it![]()

The really pernicious thing about "influencers" is that, unless they are at the top of the food chain and really diversified, they are all beholden to "access" and thus always biased and willing to pull punches and cover up product shortfalls.
Influencers really are doing a "review" in about the same way Apple themselves would do a "review".
It's all just hype, excitement generation, FOMO creation...
Please pause while I barf - lol
