An iPad mini 7 is a day one buy for me. I wish I would have gotten the Mini 6 256 cellular rather than the wifi 64. 64gb just isn't enough in 2023. The iPad mini may very well be my favorite iPad. It is either that or the 11".
You are so right about the size. How ironic the mini is on sale right now at a good price but I also want more than the 64. I dont need it but am tempted by it.

Ahead of Apple's "Scary Fast" event on Monday at 5 p.m. Pacific Time, a regulatory database has potentially revealed at least some of the new products that will be announced, including new Macs and, dare we say it, maybe even a new iPad.
No way there will a new iPad(s) tomorrow. I know this to be true because Mark Gurmn said so 7 days ago. He said new iPads won't be released until next year (March).

I wouldn’t have expected an iPad Mini refresh so soon. I thought it was more of a 3 year refresh cycle. But good if true.

But either way, I’m not interested yet since my Mini 5 is still going strong, and I use its headphone port. I think the only way I’d upgrade even though my Mini 5 is still working well is if the new Mini drastically decreases reloads, adds back a headphone port, adds better speakers, and is waterproof. I’d also like it to be smaller. A couple of those wish items probably aren’t ever going to happen, so looks like be using my Mini 5 for a long while.

I'm assuming this is a sarcastic take on the same thing I came here to say, which is about this line in the article:

but it would certainly be surprising given that Gurman and Kuo do not expect new iPads for the rest of the year.

Kuo didn't expect new Macs this year, either, as recently as a few weeks ago, and Gurman in the span of 6 days went from claiming 2024 launches to miraculously predicting an October event. So we have at least come to the point where it's confirmed they really don't have much more insight than the rest of us.

It makes sense to release an updated Mini tomorrow with A16, jelly scroll “fix”, and updating base storage to 128gb. That will capture the holiday crowds. A16 is in the current non-pro iPhones, so they’ll do the same in their smallest iPad.

A17/M3 will be reserved for a Mini Pro, if they ever decide to do one. That would be in March with the other Pro updates, buying Apple more time for greater yield on the 3nm processors.

iPad Mini with M3 let’s goooooooooo
People keep giving me crap about wanting an Apple Silicon chip in an iPad mini and I am like, I just want all of my devices to use the same architecture (HWwise). Plus, USB-C? Come on, it’s a no-brainer for me. I know we might not have USB-C/TB4 but I would still want to be able to use a connection standard, be able to connect to things like storage, Ethernet adapters, ext monitors and be able to transfer data using a wired connection to a new iPad for instance.

I really hope we finally get a Magic Keyboard with backlighting. Instant buy if so.

I’ll be grabbing a 16” MBP with a Max chip regardless. I’m on a 2018 15” MBP maxed out, and it been great, but really struggling lately. I wasn’t planning on this until early next year from the rumor mill, but so excited for it to be coming out sooner than expected.

Minus the external monitor support the current Mini can do all of those things. The Mini might be too small to handle the heat dissipation of an M3 (it's an extremely cool running chip but there are still thermal limitations). The A series and M series are all Apple Silicon and share the same core hardware architecture.
