It's still ONLY 30 dollars. It's just so ironic to me that people here kill themselves over justifying the apple price tag yet can't fork over an extra thirty dollars for what should be an entirely new product line (well kind of).

Talk is cheap; a psychological paywall that won't hold up to the first touch of the iPad mini for a great number of people, especially at $30 bump in their own minds.

Myself, I'm just looking for a mildly revised iPad, my first, with Lightning to match my iPhone 5 that I get in December when my current contract allows an upgrade (w/ a two year contract extension).

I highly doubt the iPad mini will start at $329. Can anyone remember Apple launching anything at an oddball price like that?

I would think $299 is a safe bet for the starting price. Perhaps an outside shot at $249, but probably not. I also can't see them offering the iPad mini in 4 different memory configurations. I think we'll either see the standard 16/32/64 or 8/16/32. We'll find out Tuesday.

I won't be buying a 8gb, 7 inch iPad for that price. But, I have to say Apple may sale many because their marketing is very good getting their products out. Yes, there are other tablets out but I don't see much marketing for them, mostly you have to just know about them or here it from someone else. Another good company is Amazon with the marketing skills.

The base model will compete directly with the Kindle Fire 1024x600 ($159) or Kindle Fire HD 1280x800 ($199). So for $329 that thing better have a retina display and cellular connection in the base model or Amazon will sell me another Kindle Fire.

Apple can kiss my ass if they think I will buy at $329 a 8GB tablet. I rather choose a 32GB Nexus 7 for much less. I already have an iPhone.

Your ass will remain dry because there will be no 8GB version. Why are you assuming that? Come on, think for 1/2 a second.

I literally cannot believe you are all whining about a $329 price tag.... but you paid a premium for BLACK PLASTIC?

Apple has some of the most absurd price premiums of any products in any market, period, and $329 for a fairly high-end tablet is TOO MUCH!?

Won't be 8GB, won't be 7". Geeze, come on.

At $329 ill probably check out the kindle fire instead...I think we'll more likely see intro prices at $299' but that's still more than I want to pay for an ereader.

:eek: I wonder what kind of outrageous profit margin is apple making on this.

Are you serious?! Thanks for making this easy apple.

Thank god the surface is coming, lets all hope apple gets a serious awakening. At least the preorders are all sold out. 2012 is the year Apple stopped innovating and became evolutionary.

nope ! poorly designed Windows 95 won't be any threat to Apple premium products

With the Nexus price drop/size increase it starts to look even worse for Apple.

16GB: iPad $429
16GB: Nexus $199
That is 116% more

32GB: iPad $529
32GB: Nexus $249
That is 113% more

So it seems the iPad mini could be twice as much as the Nexus for the same amount of storage. The iPad mini may have bigger screen in terms of sq. in. but the Nexus has more pixels.

I wonder how well each tablet will hold its value. In many cases, it's cheaper to buy a MacBook Pro and sell it in a year or two than it is for other laptops. When you buy a product, you're really only paying for the depreciation. Tip: don't buy a new Mac Pro unless you have to. You'll end up selling it to someone like me for about 1/6th the price later on.

Still, whichever is cheaper, I'd probably not buy either. And if I had to choose, I'd get the iPad even at a higher price because it works well with my other stuff. I don't want to buy something that can hardly sync.

NEXUS 7

For the Win.

$199 and more capable than ANY iOS crap
"More capable" based on what evidence? Having more storage and having more capability are two entirely different creatures. You could just as easily argue that having a 40% smaller screen alone would make the Nexus Android "crap" less capable, or that the lack of tablet-specific apps (don't worry, I know that Android apps are generally not classified as tablet-specific because for the most part they scale well to a 7" screen, but since you are declaring a victory based on one spec alone, turnabout is fair play).

FWIW, I do think the Nexus 7 is a good device for the money, and its price and apparent storage bump will make it even more attractive (I suspect this is an attempt to pre-empt whatever Apple may announce). But your above statement is the same sort of fanboyism that Apple fans on this forum are often accused of, considering that the specs of the iPad Mini are not even known yet, nor is the price.

I think Apple may actually be more aggressive with the price of the iPad Mini than it typically is, because it is entering this particular segment of the market later than some competitors, and it is not introducing any revolutionary new concept or form factor. Apple's guidance for this quarter was for a lower than usual gross margin, which could well be because of the iPad Mini. Some had suggested that the main reason for the reduced margin was the iPhone 5, but from what I have read, Apple still has an incredibly high margin on that phone.

I'm hoping that Apple will introduce the iPad Mini for $249 with 8 GB of storage, which with its larger screen and typical Apple fit and finish will not look too bad overall compared to the Nexus (although you can be sure that Google will tout its higher storage capacity and lower price). Of course, iPad buyers wanting to get the most out of their devices would probably be well advised to buy a model with more storage, and the up-sell could help boost Apple's margins closer to their usual level, with prices around $349 for 16 GB and $449 for 32 GB.

I remember the iPod Touch being $229 or $219 a while ago.

You're not going to buy it anyway.

You clearly missed the point. It doesn't matter if it's $330 or $690, I ain't paying one red cent above $299. Period. Bottom line. End of discussion.

If you want to be a sucker and overpay for a gimped 7 inch tablet, go right ahead.

I doubt you're going to buy it anyway with that attitude. First, it's practically an 8" tablet with more usable screen real estate due to the 4:3 ratio. In other words, it will feel like a 9.7" iPad, but be smaller, lighter and better on battery life. If you are comparing it to a 7" tablet, then please go out and buy the Android tablet already. You don't see the value in an iPad aside from a list of specs.

Saying all of that, I believe the iPad mini will be better than other 7" devices (although Amazon really is the competition here IMHO), and I think Apple will go for the "kill" at $249 16GB, perhaps with a $199 8GB option for educational institutions. $329 for WiFi/LTE.. $349 for 32GB WiFi, etc.

I see people making all of these definitive statements about a supposed product they dont have much information on yet.

Stop trolling! U trolls give yourself away when u say I have an iPhone Mac or some other apple product. U won't pay the $30 premium for the mini but u will pay it for the iPhone($30+ per month). Please!

The monthly payment deception is working well. An iPhone with a few years of service costs a LOT of money, in most cases more than an iPad or a Mac assuming full depreciation.

That is why I never signed up on any iPhone plan even since the original one (and still using MediaMax200 from AT&T with unlocked iPhone 4S).

I would rather have some temporary pain with high hardware cost then shell out courageous monthly fees for the not so good service.

Is that why the tablet market is so far skewed in Apple's direction then?

A $199 price tag on the iPad would be nice, but impractical if you factor quality into the equation. Anything more than that may not be your cup of tea, but the stats on the number of people that have bought one so far with a low end price of $499 suggests otherwise.

I'm not going to argue with you. I want you to look up the stats.
1) how much of the Tablet market belongs to apple at the iPads introduction?
2) how much of the tablet market place does apple have now?

Once you figure out the answer to these two question, ask yourself if apple was so great, and people had no problem paying extra for quality, then why isn't the market share the same as it was at the iPads introduction.
