With this iPad Mini or whatever it might be called I do not believe this pricing will actually happen. The majority of customers who don't buy a regular iPad is because they can't justify spending half a grand on a device no matter how cool it might be for just reading.

With this device I do think Apple will take the plunge into the lower market and price it at $199/$249/$299 simply because it will make their market share grow in the ereader market which will then bring in a ton more customers who will buy into the ecosystem and then purchase larger products.

I also know that Apple will NOT work backwards with a brand new device on specs, it's not how they do things tech wise. Why would they launch a product like this from scratch and have it be based on specs no other device in the ecosystem uses anymore? It will have a retina display, A5X and probably 16/32/64 for memory.

Oh, and for you "Why not 8gb?" people;

You do realize that the component price difference between an 8gb and a 16gb chip is probably about $3, right?....

Why not? Because yor component 3$ difference means for Apple that actual iPad mini's price difference will be atleast 50$ between 8 and 16.

Verizon is selling a comparable Galaxy 7.7" tablet Super Amoled tablet (720p HD display) at $399. The lesser galaxy tab 7.0 stands at $350. Since they're still being offered there must be some market out there for smaller, expensive tablets.

When has apple ever surprised anyone with lower pricing?

The guy I quoted above. Geez. The rumors going around for nearly a month was that the ipa would be 1k. Steve even made a joke about the rumors when he debuted it 3 years ago.

I don't doubt apples marketing floats rumors all the time to screw with sources.

Jesus, those prices are WAY TOO HIGH for an iPad Mini. Terrible pricing strategy. I will NOT be purchasing an iPad Mini. Terrible.

I would have to agree if their intent is to capture school kids purchasing them.
Parents that have the money may as well buy the regular iPad 16 gig.

Been really interested in this for 2 kids but not at these prices! Just too high. May just have to get a refurb and let them share it!

Given the base model of the iPod Touch is now 32 GB, is it possible the base model iPad mini and the updated iPad will have a base spec of 32 GB?

And the Nexus 7 isn`t quality. Yea..............

The $250 Nexus is plastic, has a 30% smaller screen, and sells for no profit.

Add 20% for bigger screen/battery/metal case = + $40
-----------------------------------------

That is $290 before profit.

Add minimum $20% for profit = +$58

That is $348 with profit.

So $329 is actually less than I would expect.

Apple does NOT understand how to price a product that nobody needs.

Apple, you just lost my sale for the iPad Mini! I will NOT be purchasing this product!

Good luck selling them to some sucker out there who will buy one, but I can guarantee you that I will NOT. i'm just fine with my iPad 3, thankyouverymuch.

Ironically enough, Apple, if you would have priced this product appropriately (like $199 or $249), I would have snapped one up for guests to use in the living room.

But at these prices, you have completely lost both my sale AND my interest. Yet you could have had BOTH my sale AND my interest if you would have priced these appropriately, at $199 or a MAXIMUM price of $249.

Good luck, though... I'm sure some sucker out there will plunk down $329 for this unnecessary object.

You want apple to basically sell for the same price as its competitors? When has that ever happened? You want apple to basically sell for cost? Lol

I'm going to go out on a limb and say apple has much experience on how to price a product and you have no idea what you're talking about. So what you don't buy it, you think they care? Millions of others will, as has been proven time and time again.

You guys realize you're crying over $30 difference right? "I'd totally get it at $299. But NO WAY I'm paying $329." Oh brother.

You're right $30 makes no difference, and if I wanted one, it wouldn't dissuade me at all. From a marketing perspective however, I think it would be better for Apple to eat the $30, that's all.

Most likely...

Most likely would prefer buying the iPad 3 with lightning connector for just a little bit more including 4G LTE and a retina display.

I don't mind mind the price. But if it has no retina and starting at 8gb then no. I'll just stick with my ipad 2

Not quite. The 32gb Nexus 7 will be 250 dollars. The rubberized backplate is actually quite nice. I am debating whether or not to get the iPad mini or the 32gb Nexus 7 as I sold my 16gb Nexus 7. You also added for a bigger screen. Woop Dee Doo, .8 inches bigger! If the rumours are true and the screen resolution is 1024x768. Then you have a bigger, less dense screen! Not an advantage!

The 32gb iPad Mini will not be even close to 250 dollars. The logical Apple pricing point would be 350 for a 32gb iPad Mini. Anymore, and it will F.A.I.L. Unless of course the specifications and features blow the competition away.

Apple fanboys should actually try the devices they automatically label as junk.

Assuming the same CPU/GPU/RAM as the iPad 2... If the mini is $329 for a 16gb with Retina display then that is a pretty good value. If it is 8gb without Retina display than it is a pretty bad value. My guess is that it is going to be 16gb w/o Retina display which makes it an "ok" value, but not the hit people were expecting.

Check Craigslist in the Los Angeles area. Right at the top just saw one for $375 16GB, and one $415 32GB, and probably can get that down to $400.

And seeing how taxes here in CA are high, the iPad mini would run me close to $360.

Taxes are high in CA? Not even close. Your state sales tax is no higher than WA which is nothing to the rest of the world. High is what goes on in the minds of the minority in CA who think their way of life is being taxed to death.

So greedy. Just start at $199 or $249

This company can be annoyingly frustrating!

Think the higher price implies retina. Maybe not full on 264 ppi but better than the 161 that people were implying

Apple supposingly did order 10 million iPad Minis. They better be a good value or that 10 million will sit. Fanboys will always purchase anything with a fruit logo but the device will have to deliver to the masses in order to get back the 7" market share from the Android devices.

I totally agree. Hopefully they go with pretty good value.

Agreed. It really has to deliver >200 DPI. The Nexus 7 and Fire HD both have over 200 DPI screens for a cheaper price, albeit they are made with no margin.

It won't be retina, and there won't be much reason to swap your iPad 2. It is essentially a mini iPad 2 for a lower price (the iPad 2 will be dropped).

But it will have a 163 dpi screen instead of 132 on on the iPad 2, which is a little bonus, and it might have an A6 processor, which would be a lot more powerful than the iPad 2 A5 processor(and any other ARM tablet).

I hope this rumor isn't true... $299 sounds better and will therefore sell better; whats $30 to Apple?. Most rumors claim it won't have retina, which doesn't make sense either.

On 10 million devices? That's $300 million of pure profit. Profit is the bottom line to Apple, so I can definitely see the $30 difference being real.
