I don't understand how someone can just jump to android after pricing like this. "Oh nevermind that I already bought all these apps, I'll just rebuy hundreds of dollars of apps on another platform because Apple's iPad offering is too expensive"

hahahaha, I KNEW this would happen, despite the many people on here apparently thinking Apple was going to change it's entire business plan for one device! Yeah a $200 iPad hahahaha.

I am going to go with $350 starting price though. And it better come with 16GB storage for that and a retina screen and an A6. I won't get one as it's too much, but to compete against the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD at Apples pricing policy it better offer the goods.

But I have always stated it will be expensive, why so many are totally oblivious to the entire history of Apples premium pricing as a result of it's entire business plan is beyond me.
I did read today though that some people are stating it will come with GF2 touch screen technology on Apple Insider. No idea what it is?

http://appleinsider.com/articles/12/...ce-marketshare

Plus Amazon sells the Kindle Fire HD at cost and Google makes a tiny profit on the Nexus 7, $249 cost value sales price hardly fits in with Apple's business plan plus I doubt you'll get an A6 or retina for that price.

So I'll state $350 and up. A6, retina, 16GB. Or it may be $400 and up if they ditch the iPad 2.

i would have to agree if their intent is to capture school kids purchasing them.
Parents that have the money may as well buy the regular ipad 16 gig.

Been really interested in this for 2 kids but not at these prices! Just too high. May just have to get a refurb and let them share it!

+1

Another reality check

One more thing;

This will almost certainly have a 5mp camera on the back since this is Apple's new low-end standard. That's another big improvement over the iPad2.

So you have the iPad2 which used to be $499, now discounted to $399, presumably still making a profit, but not a huge one...

Now make the device more portable, much lighter and probably "sexier"...

Now give it a screen that is 35% sharper...

Now add a much, much better camera...

AND price it $70 LESS!!!!

Not bad. Thank you Apple.

Folks, it doesn't matter what you wanted. This is going to sell huge. You know it is. It doesn't matter what you expected since you never expected anything even remotely realistic.

No surprise at all. Apple operates on high hardware profit margins but Amazon, Google and Barnes and Noble sale services. I wouldn't be surprised if Amazon lowers their price to $100 if you're a prime member or release a high end phone for free on contract.
Plus what else would you expect from a company selling $20 USB cables and $30 adapters and sue companies trying to reproduce them.

You guys realize you're crying over $30 difference right? "I'd totally get it at $299. But NO WAY I'm paying $329." Oh brother.

with that logic, why not make it $369, thats still $30 less than ... or $399 thats still cheaper than the iPad 3

everything has a limit, im not spending 199 on pants either even tho its just 50 bucks more then others

but what do i care i got my iPad 3

Why? It's a hell of a difference of $170 between $329 and $499 which is the base price for an iPad 3.

I want one, but I wouldn't hesitate to snap one up at $299. Now I'm going to have to think about it.

So...you are running on a +/- ~$30 budget? Priorities...

It's 30 bucks. Quit crying about it. If you can afford 300 you can afford 330.

If you can afford $330 you can afford $360.

If you can afford $360 you can afford $390.

If you can afford $390 you can afford $420.

If you can afford $420 you can afford $450.

At what point does it stop and you say "that's too damn much". For me, that price point is $299. Even a penny above that and I ain't buying this thing.

There's a sucker born every minute.

And this...

It's ALWAYS been Apples ENTIRE business plan to sell ALL it's products at big profit, large markup, and then it has rigorously defended that RRP and you hardly ever see an Apple device on sale anywhere. The mini was never going to be cheap.

Higher price would be fine if it was the latest tech, retina display etc. but if its just iPad 2 specs why bother.

Now this is just a wish list:

349 beginning price point
Ipad 3 resolution would give it roughly 320ppi, close to iPhone 4-5
A6 1gb ram for processor
16gb ram

If they did this, even at 399 it would knock the competition out of the water. That screen would be killer!

The $250 Nexus is plastic, has a 30% smaller screen, and sells for no profit.

You are mistaken. The $199 8GB nexus 7 sells for no profit.

The $249 16GB nexus 7 makes a profit for both google and the store/retailer. Do you really think 8GB of flash storage is $50 ?

All depends on the spex

If so, Apple is maxing out the lowest pricing. Rather than the stunted device I guessed at, now I'd look for a retina display, speed, battery life, and storage, siri, and decent cameras. In other words, a big iPod Touch.:apple:

That's Apple for you. Sell a shrunken and gimped iPad 2 at a higher profit margin.

Samsung FTW.
I'm still expecting them to surprise us next week. Either a lower starting price point or retina display, or something we're not thinking of. I mean seriously Apple can't be that stupid...

$330 or so isn't actually too bad. It's good quality and only costs $200 more than what my garbage MID tablet cost. I wonder what the storage capacities will be.
