With all of the leaks happening, I would suggest that Foxconn installs machine guard towers at crucial points in and around their factories. They should also thoroughly search everybody entering and leaving the premises.

Thieves and criminals should know that if you try to steal Apple products, then you might end up in deep ****. That might make them think twice before stealing.

That's...really creepy, man.

Oh jesus christ, I have to explain this to you??? It was in quotes, sir. As in, I was quoting...a movie. Austin Powers, to be precise.

Seriously, I love how people feel the need to correct what was obviously a joke.

Wow. Just wow.

It's because they're Vulcans.

The brazil factory just does final assembly to reduce the cost of the product in high tariff Brazil. The story makes no sense if all the iPad minis are to be made there. So it is either that there is a first run there for security reasons (stop the leaks) or the story isn't true.

New and exciting about this iPad: Every freaking kid in the developed world will want one. And at ~$250, they will likely get one too.
Except the price will obviously start at $399.

(there is no sarcasm or joking in this post)

I'm getting the "iPad ultra mini". Better known as the iPod Touch. ;)

"I want an iPad mini"

I realize you're getting plenty flamed for this comment, but just to drive the point home:

I purchased an iPad when it first came out. It was a novel toy that I never really implemented into my daily life and soon faded away to be used only for the occasional Kindle book. There were a few too many issues I didn't like about it, but that's for another post...

One day, sometime later after the iPad 2 came out, I happened to go kill time in a Best Buy and found myself looking the newest iPad over. I was impressed with the slimmer and lighter model. I wandered through the rest of the tablet aisle afterwards and immediately realized that the smaller, lighter tablets were way more to my liking and felt Apple missed the ball not going with a 7"...

On the other hand..you may not tell/write jokes so well... my buds who do get paid (too much methinks)for writing tv comedy and features would advise you....if you have to explain it's funny,...it ain't funny.

I think this is going to be huge for Apple.

It may be a small sample size, but I'm the Mr. Mom around here and I talk to alot of the Moms at the school. Many of them want an iPad, but have opted for the smaller Kindle b/c it fits better in their purse for when they're out shopping, library, having a coffee or done the housework.

If the price point is there, I believe it will crush the competition in that space.

Also for kids - I know both of my boys are saving their money from their paper route and when they read over my shoulder one night about the iPad Mini, well, they just lit up.

Cheers,
Keebler

People who buy a smartphone all use it as a smartphone. Each person uses different apps, but in the end it's a smartphone. That's why there's only 1 iPhone, from Apple's point of view there is no other way of making an iPhone that's better than the iPhone they currently make.

An iPad, however, is multifunctional. It can be used for reading, gaming, productivity (a bit), browsing, etc. Different ways of using a device might raise the urge for different sizes. For example, reading books is much more comfortable on a 7" device than on a 10" iPad.

Apple's vision of the future, the post-PC era, is full with iPads. The tablet market is rapidly becoming bigger than the PC market in number of sales. In this future, where iPads are everywhere being used for everything and the PC becomes more and more obsolete, different sizes makes sense.

That's why the iPad Mini is going to happen and that's why it's going to be Apple's next blockbuster.

Actually, a friend of mine who tried my iPad hated it because the size, not because the OS, which he found surprisingly nice. He hates Apple, but would've been interested in an iPad mini after trying the iPad.

Believe it or not, some people like the 7 inch screens. Bigger isn't always better. See arguments on phones from many Apple fans.

I didn't have to tell it or write it. I quoted it. If you can't get it, that's your problem.

I would like one, but my wife wouldnt so +50% = 108% of all ppl want one by my calculation

It's come to my attention that you people do not understand percentages! But I should expect that as 5/4ths of all people don't understand factions either. :p

Care to explain "obviously"?
I'll assume you are familiar with Apple's standard sequential pricing. On RAM upgrades, iPads, phones, cables, etc.

Lowest prices of non-refurb related products are...
iPod Touch: $299
Ipad Mini: x
Ipad: $499

Solve for x.

If it comes out at $250, I'll cheer and order two.

Or can spell them.

Actually, it will probably be cheaper than the iPad 2 because the screen is smaller and the battery can be smaller. My guess is somewhere inbetween $329-$349.

I don't buy it. Less than a month before the iPhone launch? Why not introduce this when the new iPad is launched around March?

The iPad Mini does not compete with the iPod Touch that much so I doubt this reasoning holds the way you say it does. I think we can safely assume the $299 price tag is a bottom price, but $299 for a 32 GB iPod or $349 for a much bigger 16 GB iPad mini really is a different kind of device with a different kind of usage.

An iPad doesn't fit in your pocket, you don't use it like you use a music player.

What I'd like to know is the price, If this is meant to compete with the Nexus 7 and the pricing is the same, then I'm buying one no questions asked..
