Ordered a Silver 16GB Wi-fi version 10am HST. Called 1-800-MY-APPLE to upgrade my shipping to 2-3 days (didn't see the drop down option when ordering). The representative kindly upgraded my shipping for free and offered me any case of my choice for free (went with the Smart Case brown) and she upgraded the smart case to 2-3 days also. iPad should be coming in by next Monday.

I just picked up my mini retina at my local apple store and canceled my online order!

in what step is your order (preparing for shipment, etc,)? I called earlier and was told that they cant update shipping because it is already in preparing for shipment status
I believe his intentions are to sell, and only return if cannot sell to pay for two.
I also went this route.
Ordered a silver 128 Verizon with 5 - 10 business days for shipping. This is the first time I've done this via apple.com. Has anyone ever experienced a reduction of the initial estimates, or should I assume that I might be able to get it at an Apple store before Nov. 26 and cancel my order when I do?

It's a splurge, as my older Ipad mini works fine, but I use it a huge amount for reading and sometimes the pixilation makes superscripts and subscripts hard to read, so this is an upgrade.

I just got a confirmation email about the upgraded shipping, and now my "delivers by" date is actually a day earlier than it was, so I don't think you have to worry.
Yep, that's it exactly. They will go to someone, either at a markup from me or as new/certified refurb from Apple.
Just hope selling goes easy this year, I skipped reselling these prior years as there was so much supply already out there. The 128GB niche is where I see people headed looking for an upgrade with a lot of photo/video/music/apps. The retina mini is what a lot of people wanted as well, so just hoping I picked the right model. Additionally if the JB hits, rather have them in hand for me to keep.
Too many fees with eBay, likely sticking to my local CL, or my prior contacts that will want them for promo use when/if stock dries up.
Plus my mom wants one if I get stuck with one.
Ordered a white 32GB Verizon model the moment it went live. It showed "ships in 5-10 business days" and delivers "Nov 26 - Dec 4." Sucks that it's going take this long but at least I have it ordered. Going to keep on checking for in-store pickup while I wait.
I assume the Verizon model will work on AT&T LTE just like the iPhone 5s. Got Verizon for the most flexibility.

Just curious, on your order status page does it now reflect a case with the ipad being shipped. I've never heard of apple to offer a free case other than the iPhone 4 incident where they were handing out bumpers.

No, it doesn't show a case. It does say "delivers by" Nov 25 - Dec 3 instead of Nov 26 - Dec 4.
I called Apple to see about upgrading my order as well since I tried to do it this morning, but the website wouldn't allow me. I got a wonderful rep who when I explained what happened wasn't able to upgrade the shipping. However, he offered me a free Apple iPad Mini Smart Case of my choosing with free expedited shipping!
Don't worry, you're not alone in thinking this way. I ordered mine early this morning, after seeing that none of my local Apple stores had any in stock. Some time this afternoon they had stock, but my order had advanced to the "preparing for shipping" stage and couldn't be cancelled. While I could have returned one of the tablets (or not accepted the shipment, as one person in this thread was told to do by an Apple representative), it would result in one less iPad for someone else for at least a few days. Even though it would have been nice to have it earlier to play with, it's not absolutely critical that I have it this week. Given that stocks are said to be limited, I'd rather not risk delaying someone else who might have a greater need or want than I do.
Gotta keep in mind, Those dates are worst case scenarios.
Hopefully it ships out by the end of this week/early next week and we will all have them at the end of next week at the latest.

First of all, these minis aren't limited. Those looking to resell are in for a big surprise. Maybe if you can find a 4g version for store pickup soon, maybe. Wifi, not a chance.
Now as far as how it compares to the air. I think the air has much better screen color. Mini looks dull and I have a yellow tint towards the bottom.
From what I can tell my air used to crash with 3-4 tabs open whereas the mini hasn't crashed with 6plus tabs open, any ideas?
