Why in the h e double-hockey-sticks Apple doesn't release their own back cover or full case is beyond me.

Here's a JETech review, I don't like that it doesn't come up over the corners...

I ordered this one and I'm hoping to get it by Wednesday. I think for the price its one of the better cases out there. I hoping this will buy my time to see if there's any cases that offer more protection.

Do the volume and power buttons have a clicky sensation with the CTsing? I like the ESR because of the clickyness but the hard plastic makes me scared that it won't be protected if dropped.

No, they aren't clicky. They work but it's not as pleasant a feel as the Apple silicone case.

Hmm.... JETech or the upcoming KHOMO? https://www.amazon.com/KHOMO-iPad-10-5-Inch-Built/dp/B072JTYM6T/

The Amazon reviews for the JETech mentions possible cutout misalignment for the microphones.

I like how the KHOMO has full cutouts for all 4 speakers, possibly better sound vs. the tiny holes cut out of the JETech?

I think that's a good point considering the max volume of the 10.5 might be a little lower than that of the 9.7.

For sure, the volume increments are markedly different on the 10.5 vs 9.7, I have tested this myself.

Just be aware that full cutouts on a soft case are likely to make the case edge less stable. That's been my experience with the two 10.5 cases I've used, as compared to the Apple cover on my 9.7. The Apple cover edges don't move, the other case edges do move in the speaker area.

I ended up going with this case - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072L29NW5

I should have it tomorrow and I will report back and let everyone know how it goes.

Also ordered the JETech https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07175N8XP but it won't be in until the 22nd (guessing they're making the changes everyone is talking about on here)

Now if Amazon would carry the pencil that'd be nice. Have a bunch of Amazon gift cards to blow haha.

Oh true, had that issue on my STM Bags DUX iPad case. Oh well, I'll guess I'll know soon enough, as the KHOMO has already shipped out to me.

I received this case on Friday and it is very nice as a short term solution while other options appear in the coming months. It fits very well and has a pleasing feel to the touch.

Awesome, thanks for the info. Definitely waiting for some more third party keyboard cases to come out. Not ready to spend the money for the ASK.

Same here, the shipping dates keep changing though.
will give this one a consideration once it starts shipping. I really like the official Smart Cover personally so I would love to buy one if the right back case comes along.

I just picked up a few plastic back covers and I will be covering them in leather. It has cutouts for the Smart Keyboard and a Smart Cover!

I ordered the Apple sleeve and then thought, ‘this feels like part of Angela’s drive to make Apple a fashion company’; and while that’s all fine, and a natural extension of the brand/experience, and design is a big part of what makes Apple who it is, it’s not ultimately why I buy Apple stuff. So I cancelled it and ordered a leather and felt Harber sleeve for half the price from Etsy, which looks like it will offer more protection and do just as good a job.

Add me to the ranks of people scratching their heads at the lack of smart cases/back covers though - cannot fathom it at all.

That's disappointing to hear as I've just bought an STM Dux for my 10.5, IPP hasn't arrived yet but if it's going to be sloppy/gappy around the cutouts it'll be going back to the store.
Mine was their case for the Air 2. The bottom near the Lightning port was just too sloppy due to the speaker cutout. Maybe they improved the design for the 10.5? Other than that, it was a decent case, albeit pricey.

There's nothing to fathom. Apple's secrecy paranoia prevents them from shipping molds out early to accessory makers, even though everyone on the planet knew they were making a 10.5 inch iPad. So case makers have to wait until release day to start working on them. And that takes time.

That's all understandable, but then how about you offer some actual options for your customers besides that ridiculously overpriced sleeve.

People would buy the sleeve regardless. They would buy all of it, cases and sleeves included. They definitely struck out when it comes down to accessories this time.

That doesn't apply to Apple; what I (and others) can't understand is why Apple is not making a smart case or back cover for their own device, only front covers and sleeves.
