That doesn't apply to Apple; what I (and others) can't understand is why Apple is not making a smart case or back cover for their own device, only front covers and sleeves.

If you can put an ipad and its smart cover into the new Apple sleeve, I guess it should answer your question.

Like everyone here, I miss the Apple case and I'm pretty sure it's not gonna come back soon.

it doesn't really answer the question - a sleeve doesn't offer the same functionality as a back cover. Why not offer the choice?

I agree with you but the smart cover can do the job at home (and offer only less protection with the same functionality) and for transport the sleeve is a go. I guess that's the deal here.

I'm a bit more cynical - I read it as Apple encouraging people to buy an OEM case option costing twice as much as the old smart covers.

Read the reviews for the 9.7 back cover on Apple. People seems to have serious issues with corners of the case cracking. I think Apple discontinued it for this reason. Why continue to sell something that breaks easily and gets consistently bad reviews? I would still like them to make a better version if possible and start selling it though!

I just received the JETech and its been very good, but I see glowing reviews of the CTS.

Well most of those glowing reviews are fake. I still think it's one of the better cases available at the moment though.

This review is especially entertaining:

That's so weird because I have had 3 different Apple brand silicon covers for the back of the iPad and none of them have ever cracked at the corners--in fact the Apple Smart Cover/Keyboard and silicon covers have been super durable for me--they don't scratch or scuff very easily and they're easy to clean off. I personally am super frustrated that they're not releasing one for the 10.5". I would have bought it day one.

I had 2x apple silicon cases for my 9.7. Also had one on my release-day iPad mini 4, and my wife's mini 4. Each with numerous PU smart covers. Never any issue with cracking, splitting etc.

Thanks for the link. Does the CTS cover allow for a keyboard?

You can cut the cover off the CTS and widen the opening on the edge of the case just a little bit to accommodate the ASK. That's what I did. I prefer the feel of the Apple back cover to the CTS but the CTS doesn't feel bad and if I didn't have the Apple cover on my 9.7 iPP, I wouldn't notice the feel at all.

That's all understandable, but then how about you offer some actual options for your customers besides that ridiculously overpriced sleeve.

I guess the margins from their ridiculously overpriced back cover (but we all still faithfully bought because it was still the simplest option) were less than than their ridiculously overpriced sleeve. The sleeve, LOL. For $130, you could get Belkin's keyboard case, with (albeit heavy, ugly) front and back protection, and a keyboard backlight. For the same $130, Apple gives you...a bag. And its not even zippered or enclosed. Even for Apple, that's pretty brazen.

I concur. I have had silicone back covers for at least the last couple of iPad generations (I have owned every iPad since the original). When I am home, I use the iPad naked but when I travel (business or pleasure) I throw the iPad into the Silicone case and include either a smart cover or ASK depending on what I need to do when I am away. None of them any showed signs of wear throwing them into a travel bag or using them normally.

I have a conference I am attending end of July where I will need the iPad and ASK. I am hoping between now and then, some decent options show up. Methinks it won't be a problem. Hence the subscription to this thread.

i am simply not falling for their accessories trickery , all they could have done to prevent this hoopla is provide the same build quality of the Air 2 leather case; it does'nt have to be smart either:confused: .

I am hopeful of the full thin case i pre-ordered from Amazon ; JisonCase. In the interim i just have to be extremely careful handling the iPad when not on the stand, otherwise it stays in the box

Looks like Incipio released some of their cases for the new IPP today in case anybody was waiting on those.

I ordered this one last night. They say their new version will fit the Apple keyboard and the Smart Cover. Plus it has a pen storage.

Worth $8 to try. I’ll let you know.

I ordered that one too. I really hope it's a winner, because it's just about the only option that looks even close to any good for me.

I like Incipio cases, but they do not have anything that is compatible with the ASK or Smart Cover. I don't know why someone isn't cashing in on making a high quality back case for the 10.5 IPP!

Yes--I am not interested in a 3rd party smart cover, as they are almost never as good as the Apple brand ones. And 99% of the time I want to have my ASK on there anyway, not the plain cover.

What's truly bizarre is that the user "Tina" has plenty of other seemingly reputable reviews.

Not exactly sure what's going on there.

She seems to really like oddly brand-named products... all 5***** reviews!
