I think everyone can have their own opinion. I really like the look of it.

It is in the vain of the Apple sleeve, and while pen is being held there I’m sure its nice

In the absence of using the pen though, just feels like wasted space to me

Different strokes though of course

My UAG Metropolis case has arrived. Really pleased with it

Zugu cases are great. The one for the second gen iPad doesn't come out until mid Aug, so I purchased an ESR CASE IN THE meantime.

Got my 2017 12.9" Metropolis case and installed it. I gotta say, I love this case. It doesn't had much bulk or weight, which is a bit surprising for a rugged case. Yes, it could be a bit snugger along the pencil edge, but it doesn't really impact anything through daily use. You have to lift the edge to even notice that it's not super tight fitting.

A couple important details: First and foremost, they don't advertise this as behaving as a smart cover. They say it's compatible with a smart cover. However, it *is* a smart cover! That's quite the plus I wasn't expecting. A very nice surprise. Second, when you insert the pencil, it applies pressure on the clip, which causes the lip of the case along that edge to push further down the iPad screen (more toward the center of the iPad). If you have a screen protector film on there that is too close to the lip of the case, you may lift the film off (this happened to me). I'm currently searching for a more "case fit" screen protector with a matte finish. I'm contemplating hollowing out a little more of the interior of the pencil holder to allow for a larger gap, to more easily accommodate the Apple Pencil with a protective sleeve installed. It fits fine, but the extra pressure creates that movement I'm trying to avoid/minimize.

All in all, fantastic case and I haven't seen another I'd even consider trading this for.

I can see that. But I've been avoiding putting my pencil in there for a little bit due to screen protector issues (see above), and even when not in use the "extra space" is very small and covered up by the magnetic closure loop. So it's really not that apparent. Unless you look really closely, it just appears to be part of the closure. I plan to keep my pencil there once I find the right screen protector, but don't mind the appearance of the case even without it stowed.

What's the best iPad Pro 12.9 case to get? Which case do you use? What the best cheap/expensive case? Or, do you not even use a case? Recommendations please.

Just ordered a couple of cases for the 12.9"er, watch this space for my impressions...

This one looks ridiculous, which could actually be quite cool when coupled with the white bezel of the iPad. Potential pitfall: the lip seems to be pronounced enough to become a nuisance when using the pen.

Then there's this one: the Piel Frama 730 "Cinema", the nicest leather case this side of Vaja's offerings. I love love love Piel Frama, this being nominally for the 2015 model is of no consequence since I don't do photography or voice-recording with my iPads. Potential pitfall: I did confirm with the customer service who assured it's what it says on the tin but I suspect it could still be a 9,7" Pro version under wrong product name (as the "product information" fields are all sorts of off); for 25€ incl. shipping it's worth the "risk" I reckon.

Does anyone know if the Apple Smart Keyboard will fit with a back cover? such as this one (yes i'm a Game of Thrones fan :)) i'm thinking of picking up the Smart Keyboard with my 2nd gen 12.9" iPad Pro but i also want a back cover to protect it.

Without knowing who made it, a link to the product, its impossible know for sure, as we cannot see any cutouts that would be needed for the keyboard.

I am not exactly comfortable creating such a thread but I am running out of ideas here!

I am currently using a simple brandless third party folio cover that does the magnetic cover thingy and acts as a stand too just to tide over until I can find a good cover, but am unsure what I should go for. Here's my requirements:

1. Covers my screen: This should mean need to replace my screen protector less I hope!

2. Front part of the cover should be removable: What I am using right now does not allow removing it, which makes it tough to use on my lap or on table. This also dirties the underside of the front part, which will then transfer the dirt onto the screen, making it redundant

3. Allows my screen protector: I prefer matte screen protector, hence the need for this

4. Stores and protects Apple Pencil well: Currently it is in another part of my bag, I strongly prefer the Pencil to be together with the iPad at all times and well protected too. I noticed how some covers seem to not protect the nib of the Pencil well

5. Magnetic Cover friendly / Covers the side with magnetic port: I noticed that some covers do not protect this side well, which I do not like as it becomes a weak spot

The closest I have seen so far is the Otterbox Defender but I will need to use its reflective screen protector, which is a big minus point for me. Sure, there are ways to remove that I heard but I am quite uncomfortable with this as the rationale of the screen protector is that it acts as part of the advertised protection too

Anyone here else have any recommendation for me? Thanks!

There is a whole thread in the "iPad Accessories" forum where people have tried about everything available.

Urban Armor Gear's Metropolis case is very nice if you want a rugged option with adjustable kickstand. It even has a pencil holder built in. The kickstand is removable if you want to replace it with a smart cover. It's also smart keyboard-compatible.

I’m currently using this case. Its bit heavy but it’s protected and it works great with the  keyboard cover.

I too purchased this case but I applied a Zagg HDX screen protector BEFORE purchasing this case. The case edges pushed the screen protector up at the corners so I removed the protector.  store employees said there isn’t a screen protector that will work with this case. I’d love to see if anyone has applied a “glass” screen protector and uses this UAG case. I’m of the understanding that if drops occur the “glass” could take the impact to protect the screen but this UAG case is rugged so do I even need a glass screen protector?
