I won't upgrade unless there are significant improvements.
Yep - and Im still rolling smooth with an Air 1 that just keeps getting the job done for me. We shall see but I doubt it.

12.9 iPP is my primary mobile device (replacing both my 11" MBA + iPad Air 2). I haven't found the weight to be an issue. As for true-tone, force-touch, and iP7 home button, the lack of those things haven't impeded my use in the least. But I can understand why some would want those things.I've had the 12.9" as well as the 9.7" (and now only have the 9.7" but not necessarily due to choice). I'll probably order a 12.9 IPP2 w/ Verizon Sim and be done w/ my laptop.
Honestly, the biggest drawbacks for me is a lack of mouse support in iOS, and a lack of keyboard integration in games. Solve these two issues and the IPP would become my primary computing device overnight.
Improvements I'd be looking for would be true-tone on the larger device, less weight, more base storage, force-touch, similar home button to the IP7.
definitely agreed on the mouse thing.

Regarding mouse support, using Jump Desktop + Citrix X1 mouse on the iPP has given me a taste of what it would be like should Apple add native, global, optional mouse support to iOS. The nice thing is that it can be done in the software and doesn't require a change to the iPad hardware. But I suspect that Apple was a bit shortsighted with the smartconnector so I doubt it will be easy to add a trackpad to the ASK.
My Air 2 is plenty light and thin. I also have 0 lag or slowdown on iOS 10. I don't see why you'd be compelled to upgrade except for larger screen.Coming from an iPad Air 2, I am definitely upgrading to iPad Pro 12.9, but i will wait for the iPad Pro 12.9 version 2....
Question is when will it launch???
Im hoping for 3D touch on the next iPad Pros. That would interest me. I also think a redesign in terms of a curved glass on the edges that started with the ip6 is on the table. The current chamfered edges are still the legacy of the iPhone 5 design.

I purchased the 9.7 Pro 256GB when released. I've also got the Apple Pencil & Smart Keyboard. I won't be upgrading for at least 3 years.
This is my main device and it can cope with 100% of my computing needs, and then some!
I am eagerly awaiting the new 12.9 pro, my iPad 3 is still okay but it slows you down to the point it's easier to resort to the phone but that has a smaller screen.
Force touch, insane processor and black colour are the key things I would want.
Add to that the the pro 9.7 upgrades.
Bonus would be iPhone 7 home button and somehow haptic feedback.
On the iPad the front cam is more important than the back cam imo, agree/disagree? Anyone think they should swap them around or make them equal high specced?

Interesting I believe it. My extreme workload is just Google Docs split view with Safari, maybe with my news cast in a pop out video window. Pretty standard stuff smooth and no lag. The one app that does lag would be Google Slides, I do not think it is optimized the best. You are dead right there, I work soley from my iPad Air 2 and iPhone because I travel allot, but am finding I am traveling a bit less now and that's why the bigger screen would be very welcome. But also as many of the really good apps like Pixilmator & keynote, numbers, pages etc etc are evolving and becoming more powerful, i am seeing a bit more lag when I am really pushing these apps, I.e when I am in the zone ;-) and multitasking between different apps and working quickly, i want everything to be ultra snappy.
