Exactly, wait 6 months and the 12.9 will be updated.

On second thought, perhaps, they will release the new 12.9 in a year and combine releases?
Really interested in what's going to happen with the Pro upgrade cycle.

This years iPhones will almost undoubtedly have an A10 processor, and it's pretty unlikely that Apple would leave it's Pro iPad line on 'last generation's' processors for 6 months. I hope both models are updated in November and they have roughly the same specs.

This really sucks. I love that both models have the ability to go up to 256GB but how do you give the smaller, less expensive version the wide color display and true-tone display but not the larger, more expensive model??? Don't even get me started on how much better the cameras in the 9.7" are. WTF???

http://www.apple.com/ipad/compare/

Is the answer to which one to purchase, well, if you want all the nice features purchase the 9.7"? Otherwise, wait until the fall and see if they update the 12.9" to have the same features. I have a feeling a lot of people who were waiting to see what was going to be announced, even though they wanted/needed the larger screen, are going to end up purchasing the 9.7" model or holding off altogether.

Please correct me if I am mistaken because I was ready to place an order for the larger iPad Pro immediately.
I bought the 12.9" but really don't like it just too big for me for big screen I have my MBP 15" . trying to sell it but can't get a good price so I stuck with it. But i will not buy the (.7" because of luck the Ram memory and USB 3.
bottom line will wait for the iPad pro II 9.7"

Simple solution, get one of each.
Or wait

According to the tech specs the 12.9 doesn't have a sapphire crystal lens cover on the camera. It's like the red headed step child.

http://www.apple.com/ipad-pro/specs/
There's no real benefit to Sapphire other than it's not as easy to scratch as Glass. I'd say the 12.9" is just fine. It has 4GB, bigger screen with larger resolution while still having the same 264 PPI that the 9.7" has (which is pretty nice) the 2 things that really make the 9.7" different is the camera and the better color accuracy. But what the 9.7" lacks is the more powerful processor, less RAM and USB 2.0, while the 12.9 has USB 3.0, faster processor, and double the RAM. Most likely by the end of the year, the iPP 2 will have the features the 9.7" has and will then be 2x better than said mini iPP. Right now they are pretty even with both having equal trade-offs.

Kal.

I still don't get why would you even take pictures on a 13" device, also you would even barely notice the difference for display.

Best reason to choose the 9.7" is portability.

If you're working in Evernote on your iPad and need to capture a document image, it's very convenient to use the camera on the iPad, instead of pulling out another device and then having to transfer the file back to the iPad.

You can always use a scanner app for that and also you don't need the best camera to capture a document. What I'm saying is a camera as good as an iPhone for the iPad is unnecessary.

The camera of the iPhone is easy for Apple to get and affordable most likely. For documents and stuff to scan a good quality is appreciated.

...Or trade for my 9.7"?

No, I think it's a grass-is-greener scenario. I love my 9.7" but I really want the 12.9", and it seems like there are plenty of others in the other camp. Just two cool products.

For me, I love the split-screen on the 12.9". Split-screen is far less useful at 9.7". But I have always said that once you go big it is very hard to ever go smaller.

If the camera is the only plus on the 9.7" then I'd have to say that overall you get much more from the 12.9. I mean how many people would hold a 13" tablet to take photos anyway? (Some mentioned that they use it to scan documents... but I find it was easier to scan them on the iPhone and they automatically update on my ipad anyway (as long as I have a connection). Chances are, if I need a document scanned "right now" I am also somewhere that I have a connection. If not, well then, I can't see why I'd need it scanned that very moment.

12.9 pluses are: Faster clocked CPU, double the RAM (makes a huge difference when dealing with editing large images and videos), ability to use USB-C for faster charging and also transferring files via the lightning to sd card reader (to transfer images from SLR camera).

From what I can see only two things make the 9.7 any different from previous 9.7 iPads... the camera upgrade and ability to use the apple pencil. But to each their own :)

The best iPad is the one you will actually use regularly and get the most productivity from! For me it's the 12.9.

I agree with this.

12.9" Is still the better model IMO. At least, that's when you want a true Pro iPad by using the Pencil, for example. A bigger screen lets you do more. We're just talking about a protruding higher res camera and improvements to an already great display.

I mean, I want it on the bigger Pro, but it doesn't really make it obsolete just yet.

The 12.9 is way more better.

I'm happy with 12.9"....and so is my wife...
Nice one. My wife is quite happy with my old, beat, mini.

If you're already working on an evernote note on your iPad and want to take a photo of a document to insert into the note, it's only one step to snap a picture, and you're done. I count about 5 steps to get out your phone, open evernote, navigate to your note, then snap the picture, hit sync, then go back to your iPad and sync again. In what sense would that be easier? And I don't see why you'd not want to work on and finish a note just because there is no internet connection.

I wanted to post in this topic because its so on point. And the easy answer is Yes. But instead of pointing out why the 9.7 Pro is better I'll state why the 12.9 is a failure.

#1. Its not a Tablet its too big. And we all know its too limited by iOS so its definitely Not a Laptop either so if you consider both sides its fails at both.
#2. 4GB RAM is wasted developers will focus on the lowest common denominator which has and will sell many times more the 2GB 9.7 Pro so having 4GB of RAM is not the advantage people make it out to be.
#3. Expensive really any version with an Apple Pencil and Case or Apple care you are at $1,000 +
#4. No Free Microsoft Office. My 9.7 iPad Pro is a work tax Write off because I can use Microsoft Office for work. on the 12.9 Microsoft Office is Not Free. And lets be honest Microsoft has done a great job on iOS Apps
#5. Portability I can take my 9.7 iPad Pro anywhere. The 12.9 Pro not so much its a bad a 13" laptop without the functionality.
#6. It was rushed to market and missing True Tone, among other features like improved colors, and superior camera in the 9.7 Pro.

Now likely the 12.9 Pro has its strong points but they can not outweigh its negatives.

Is this sarcasm?

#1. It absolutely IS a tablet. A good one. Whether the limitations of iOS are important to you is one thing, but if they are, then the 9.7" has them as well.

#2. Riiiiiight. Just keep telling yourself that. Meanwhile, my 4 GB is stlll better than 2 GB.

#3. Okay....I really don't even know what to do with this one. Like other options are cheap? And if they are, go for it! Meanwhile, I will be happy with my 12.9" iPad Pro.

#4. I can't even. No matter what you choose you have to pay for some software, and for most of them you pay for Office. I pay for Office 365 to get it on my Windows PCs and my iPad Pro. If you don't want to that is up to you. That doesn't "make it a failure."

#5 I can take my 12.9" anywhere, although I can see your point somewhat on this one.

#6. It wasn't rushed to market. I couldn't care less about True Tone. You do, and that is fine. That is YOUR opinion.

1. I have yet to find a laptop that is this light and thin. The screen size is absolutely beautiful for watching movies and working on photo and video editing. It's an awesome tablet!

2. 4 Gb RAM makes a huge difference when editing large photos or video. I have even recorded a whole song track by track, mix down and mastering right on this iPad! This can be very memory intensive too!!

3. you get what you pay for.

4. Many apps are not free. Microsoft office is not free even on Windows devices! Use pages or google docs or docs to go etc. Which are all compatible with word.

5. There is not much difference between 10" and 12" seriously. A 10" iPad will not be pocketable either. And both sizes fit easily in a backpack. Can you carry a normal 8.5 x 11 binder around? School students do all the time and the 12.9" IPP is thinner than a binder while having roughly the same width and height. If a school student had a 12.9 IPP instead of.a hefty binder I'm sure they'd love it!!

6. It was not rushed. And true tone just makes the screen look yellow. It would annoy me. Camera? Who would use either device to actually take photos anyway? I have an SLR for that. And an iPhone 6s Plus for quick snaps that update automatically in iCloud so immediately available on my iPad too. And USB 3.0 lightning to SD card reader transfers photos and videos from my SLR SD card super fast. I think the 9.7 only has USB 2.0? The 12.9 can also use the 29 watt charger :)

#4 the 'free' version of office is now missing many features so you require a subscription regardless of the device size. Just like your other statements you don't know wtf you are on about. Pathetic.
