So $100 makes it go from a "great tablet" to "doesn't really make sense".

Got it.
The 9.7 pro being a flop really bothers you, it is painfully obvious with every snarky comment you make for anything negative said about it. Don't worry, they will get it right next time.

Don't let it get to you...I'm faintly amused by him posting his snarky comments whenever anyone is skeptical or critical of the Pro 9.7".

I think he must own Apple stock and monitors the price hourly...who knows?!

The new Pro is by far the best iteration of the iPad, which is itself by far the world's single most popular tablet. Yet it's a flop. Got it.

What did you do today?

What exactly should Apple rethink and overhaul...it's an iPad.

If you want change...get a Win or Android tablet.

Those giant bezels. Apple made them slightly smaller on the sides with the Air, but it is still too wide and definitely way, way too tall. There are massive empty gaps on the top and bottom of the iPad that make it way too big for the screen size. Just like the phones, the home button needs to be axed, and the screen needs to be made bigger to actually cover the front of the device.

And the rounded, featureless, anodized aluminum look is getting pretty dated. The original iPad with the flat sides and rounded back, while admittedly way too thick, is still the best looking so far because it at least had some sort of design to it.

The 9.7 would be a great tablet for $499. It doesn't really make sense at $599. Just too expensive for a content consumption device. The design is kind of dated too and is due for an overhaul.

I don't think there is much more to overhaul on a flat piece of glass. Some say remove the bezel, but then the complaints will be that your blocking part of the movie you are watching with your thumb on the screen.

I think they hit the sweet spot with this design.

Here are X-Rays if the iPad Pros from iFixit. The 9.7 has gotten better and denser than previous iPads on the use of internal space, but that doesn't mean they can't make the screen bigger. And even with the newest design the entire grey area at the top is just empty space.

And now look at the 12.9" iPad, which not only is empty under the bezels but is more or less empty in the four massive grey areas used for speakers. The area on the right side next to the circuit board is also basically empty too down the center; those are just wires to the thunderbolt controller, but there's nothing really there.

I bought that argument about the bezels with the first generation iPad, but it is totally not true. In practice I never rest my thumb on the bezels when watching movies. I do rest my thumbs on it when holding it up one handed, but the rejection software in the Mini and Air already prevents that from being an issue).

We're probably several generation away from no home-button, the rest are just tweaks here and there. I'm not fussed either way.

In any event, nothing to excite over and I doubt many would upgrade just for that sake alone.

Maybe when they go amoled for the iPad do they also ax the home button. That would be a good time, methinks...

You're probably right. I bought a 12.9" Pro and I'll wait it out until OLED ones start shipping. I'm hoping for an 11" iPad that is in basically the same case as the 9.7.

You do know that there's ton of hardware and battery under this "useless space.
If you make the screen bigger and reduce the battery by about 20%, you'd get about 3h less usage time.
Alternative make the whole device 2.5-3mm thicker; you're not really gaining much if you do that.

Making it lighter is more important than making it smaller and there is a good chance that's what the next iteration will focus on.

As for your "proof" for the x-ray, you're so "funny"; do you have an engineering background? I'm thinking you don't for saying something so ridiculous.

11" would add how much more screen space? /idlily thinking/

Would suit me more than the 9.7" but probably 'a snowball in hell's chance".

And I also said in another thread, when the pro 9.7" was introduced, the side benefit was to remind the public of the 12.9" once again.

I might ditch any plans for a future 9.7" and go to the iPP v2.

For me, it would add just enough screen space that I could comfortable read PDFs on it. I'm not an artist and I don't need a massive 12.9" display for PDFs, but 9.7" is unusably small without constantly zooming and panning.

Compared to what? someone posting unsubstantiated assertions like the: Ipad Pro is a flop... Like the buddy your supporting.
Is that supposed to be witty or a joke? Maybe he needs a better buildup if it's a "joke".

You don't need to be a Apple stockholder to find this kind of relentless one note orchestra coming from the usual suspects annoying.

I could care less if people bought the Pro 9.7 or the older Air2.

I do agree that calling the pro 9.7 a flop, at this early date, is premature.

No remorse here. I'm upgrading from an iPad2 - nor Air and the difference is incredible. I went all in 256GB 12.9" with the pencil and keyboard. I love technology, but I also love working with a pen and paper and the pencil gives me both.

Yeah, I do reget it.
Got my iPad 12.9" last week and I am not convinced that is the right medium for me.
Its nice to write something down with the apple pen, but I am not productive on this device.
Sometimes I am faster on my iPhone, for example if I must answer a short E-Mail or manage something.

I love my ipp 9.7
I had an iPad 2 years ago, so it's a huge upgrade for me. The speakers are amazing and it's very snappy.
The only problem I have is, that I don't get to use it as much as I would like to, because of my toddler. I have to wait until bedtime to maybe get an hour with it. I hope this changes as she gets older.
Anyone else find that they don't get enough time with theirs, because of small children?

My kids love using the iPad - they far prefer it to watching tv - and it only gets worse as they get older. But we only give them 30 to maybe 60 minutes a day on it. Many days they don't use it at all.

My little one isn't even 2yrs old. So it's more that I'm scared of her smashing it or similar and I'm obviously not allowed to be on it AT ALL haha
Can't wait to do a bit of drawing tonight :)

I loved my 9.7 Pro, but in the end of the day I could not justify spending 750 quid on it with a keyboard, so I returned. I will be waiting for next two iterations with 4gb ram. Meanwhile, my iPad Mini 4 will be enough for my needs such as reading and watching movies. All in all, I really believe the iPad Pro will be the device to conquer them all in the future for me.

Yep! My granddaughter (5) would use mine all the time, until for her birthday a few months ago when we got an iPad Mini for her. Problem solved. :)

Neither of my kids are allowed to use mine. My daughter (15) has her iPod touch and a PC to use and my son (10) uses my iPhone maybe once a week or an old laptop we have.

Barely trust myself, not trusting them.

I have the 9.7" IPP. I love the speakers, but if I hadn't purchased it using AT&T Next, it'd probably go back. Not that big of a jump from Air 2. Screen's great, but not noticeably faster in my experience.
