Surface Pro 3 still a far better choice IMO and It's actually not that much expensive than a iPad Pro. You can actually run real applications vs tablet based ones. So the Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD etc even real games :p.

A lot of the issues that Surface Pro 3 had have been ironed out especially after the Windows 10 release and it works great! I have the i7 model and no issues after the firmware update.

The touch experience is excellent on Windows 10, they fixed a lot of issues and honestly it's finally an OS that has reached the same polish as OSX. Even the gestures on the trackpad are very Apple like and feels natural..

The only problem I have with the iPad Pro is that it runs iOS, I know that OSX isn't yet optimized for touch but I'd rather have a real OS vs a ARM based one.

And the iPad was a ripoff of many tablets before it. Apple sympathizers are hilarious. Don't forget the slide of Steve Jobs back in 2007 that says, "Who wants a stylus?" And don't forget that Windows 8 and Vista have more combined market share than OS X as a whole. The two least successful OSs... That should make Apple feel small :) If it was truly a horrible OS as you implied, certainly the entire world wouldn't run Windows :)

If surface was a ripoff of the iPad, the the iPad was a ripoff of the tablet PC. Both statements have the same validity which is they have none. Nice try.

I know there are people that can go back even further but back in 2003 we had Windows XP for Tablet computers and PocketPCs with Wi-Fi and IR blasters to play with. The technology is much more accessible and powerful now but I would not go around claiming that Apple was first or who is the copier.

And most tablets were not widely used until the iPad came along. Microsoft did not make tablets back then even though other manufactures put Windows on them.

I now see the the future. I had been waiting for a 17 inch macbook pro, but I see that I will have to settle for a 17 inch iPad pro, that will only do Apple approved things. So long Apple notebooks (in a few years at least).

As a musician I so want to buy one and put my music on it, all I need is a footpedal and some simple software to flip pages. No more paper!

Lots of great comments so far, but I thought of one more use for the cellular version that I'd use it for that I haven't read about so far in this thread - this thing is going to make one helluva navigation unit with Waze. No more squinting at a tinyazz iPhone screen trying to find the police up the highway! :D

All in all Apple recognized that Microsoft have something with the whole 2 in 1 thing and decided to jump on the train without having to admit that.

The key difference is that they decided that it will be easier to turn an iOS based device into a 2 in 1 instead of a OSX one.. now how much of that was them not being ready to do that with OSX is another story.

And the cops already know about the waze thing. They'll be ahead of you on that. I don't think it's a good idea to use an iPad for navigation in the car. That's going to attract their attention.

Use the iPhone 6 Plus for that. That's what I do or use the dedicated GPS which never fails me and doesn't rely on Internet or carrier plans. It's very stable for this reason.

One thing Apple should look into to make the iPad pro more usable in a work setting is setup a Documents partition that all apps can load and save from, and is accessible when plugging into a computer.

You're not understanding the deployment model that IBM is going to use for these. IBM is going to do all-cloud. Almost all CSR functions and office functions are client-server today, which is why local storage doesn't matter. If you need storage, use DropBox, iCloud or some other provider that can sync your stuff to your locations.

Windows-as-a-dumb-terminal will die. That's a multi-billion dollar market that most MR readers are totally clueless about. The iPad pro looks like a consumer device, but it's not really a consumer device...it's just presented that way because it's the only way Apple knows how to present it. It's IBM's job to sell the crap out of them, as well as selling the system management, transition services, and development services.

It'll be crazy. The only question is "when should I buy Apple stock." The Pro doesn't come out until November, which means it won't have an earnings impact until Q2-Q3 of next year.

Nice avatar and location.
Thanks! I just find it disgusting that people would pay 949 for a iPad. You can get a SP3 or decent Windows laptop for that price. Heck, you can even spend a few more dollars and get a MacBook Air if Windows scares you that much. I guess the world is largely blind followers or businesses with lots of money to spend.

Ugh so many Microsoft representatives here in the forum trying to sell Surface. i tried it once, never again. Surface is a total mess. Putting a full OS in a tablet form and call it the best of the both worlds is just overcomplicated, desperate and clueless. I would rather use my MBP if I need to run CAD.

Yes, I agree but Apple was taking aim at the $500 market while Microsoft came in just a little higher at $800 but offered a full OS and a 3 in 1 device(tablet, laptop keyboard, docking station). Now Apple is trying to get into the higher $800+ starting price tablet market but they brought a tablet that doesn't dock, doesn't offer a full OS, and has a keyboard and stylus straight from the Surface line.

My other favorite part was when they claimed iPhone Live Photos was all new. Wrong. Nokia's Windows 8.1 phones have had this feature for over two years. Apple like to claim they invented something and nobody bothers to fact check or call them out.

Agreed, but it's legal so far! FWIW, I already use a 6 Plus and an Air (both with data cards in them). Frankly, I was more interested in the Pro's 4 speakers blaring out warnings that I can hear - I do prefer keeping my eyes on the road! My use for Waze is the updated road warnings - IMHO, that app's best feature!

I've had dedicated GPS units and also have nav in both of my cars. Too cumbersome for me. My real preference and, for accuracy, I've kept a Thomas Guide in my rig for 25-odd years now, and review my route before I leave.

Why would you want Wacom gone? That would put a lot of GOV eyes on Apple.

Don't want them to be gone but if Apple ends up developing the tablet for the Mac, would be hard to beat them since they will control the hardware/software development and have more resources and money than Wacom.
By the way I am huge Wacom fan. I had their tablets for the past 16 years.

I use Waze on my 6 plus time to time when I make long drives through VT and the road warnings are very useful. Granted. For a deaf/hard of hearing driver like me, it helps see ahead and I don't text until I'm done driving or out of the car.

Sometimes I use Siri for voice control to check messages, time and navigation only. The Garmin I use is five years old and hasn't failed me. Even in dead signal areas, it works where the phone GPS can't pick up.

You'll never get this satisfaction because iOS 9 for iPad displays 4x4 icons in folders.

Wow! It means we will just have 90% of the screen unused, instead of 95%! SUCH an improvement!

This thing is going to dominate the dumb terminal space for a decade.

Oh, I agree this is going to be a success for dumb things too.

At least the iPad Pro doesn't have the Surface's OS identity crisis, where some things work on Windows, and some as an app and there's no way to tell which.

Yep, the iPad Pro is much better, you just know most productivity things don't work in it!

The key difference is that they decided that it will be easier to turn an iOS based device into a 2 in 1 instead of a OSX one.. now how much of that was them not being ready to do that with OSX is another story.

Only they didn't "turn" iOS into anything other than in a joke. They haven't even made the smallest of efforts to adapt the phone's iOS to the massive screen of the iPad Pro. Just take a look at the ridiculous home screen or the even more ridiculous folders with just 4x4 icons in a screen that could fill twice that amount of icons.

Here's a new concept:

If you don't have a need for it or don't want it, don't complain. If you have a need for it and want it, that's great!

It seems that people here complaining about the iPad Pro are because it isn't/doesn't do what THEY want it to do.

As for btrach144, Microsoft is saying a tablet can be a computer, whereas Apple is saying a tablet will always be a tablet.

Let's let the market decide.

I have enjoyed owning several iPads and may buy another some day down the road. At this time, I just have an iPhone and Macbook Air. Anyway, for me, the appeal of the iPad was that it was lightweight and relatively compact, so it was less burdensome to carry around than a laptop. The trade-off, of course, is that the device is somewhat limited.....although, I think OS 9 will definitely make improvements in the productivity and functionality of the iPad.

That said, I really don't get this larger iPad Pro. I am wondering how big of a market exists for such a large and expensive mobile device. When you add the keyboard cover, it weighs about the same as the 11 in Macbook Air and it is probably more expensive.

I suppose there are a few folks with cool artsy jobs like those featured in the Apple promotional videos, but most of us work in regular offices as data slaves laboring over spreadsheets and powerpoint presentations. From an office productivity standpoint, a laptop is generally going to outperform a tablet....so, I am not really sure who is going to buy this pro model......I just have a hard time seeing the market for this device.

Maybe you're seeing companies and users who are used to using Microsoft products. I'm seeing a totally different trend. Office 365 and Azure services are very expensive. I'm seeing most startup are putting Microsoft Cloud and .NET platform as the last option. MongoDB, Ruby, PHP, etc. and AWS and other cloud services are being used by most startup. Even bigger companies are beginning to think about other options. Most company are beginning to use Apple office suite, though not on par with MS Suite, but get the job done most of the time. Microsoft only have a hold of giant companies that don't want to make changes. This is only from what I can see of course.

We are seeing a massive shift to Microsoft and office 365 in our SMB clients and not even the 100% Mac based clients use Apples office suite of apps, it's MS office and 365 all the way, that and Adobe. Even little 1 man bands are hopping on microsofts cloud services because they are so cheap.

As an illustrator, I want to know if the iPad Pro, coupled with the Apple Pencil, would be a cost-efficient replacement for a Cintiq.

I don't think its supposed to be the next big thing (except in literal size) - and certainly isn't aimed at everyone. Wacom tablets for example have a limited market, as does the Mac Pro and Final Cut Pro X, sometimes having a dedicated device is ideal. They profit even if it doesnt sell so many. (See also: top end Macbook Pros with the discreet graphics)

There's a significant market for a giant iPad, just not the biggest one. I'm really pleasantly surprised, and super happy that Apple have targeted a specific creative market segment again, as they used to do that back in the day and I, and I'm sure many others (with things like aperture's death) were a bit scared they were going too far towards ignoring everything but the mainstream..

But in recent years we have the giant iPhone + - and now a giant iPad with extreme drawing/sketching/painting clout. Someone wants them. I certainly do! Options, yay!

I'd wager.. Yes - With caveats.. Have you heard of Astropad? http://astropad.com

It won't likely be as nice as a cintiq when plugged in with Astropad, but it's already very usable on lesser iPads. And on the road you can use Procreate and the adobe suite, Sketchbook Pro, etc. I can't wait. :D (I'm not selling my cintiq for it though, but id definitely have considered getting the iPad Pro instead if it had been on the market at the time..)
