Count me as one of the ones who will be purchasing day 1. The plan is for this to replace my MacBook Air (Already sold it on ebay so I hope this works out lol)

From what I have seen so far it can do all I personally need it to do, and the Pencil is a major draw for me. Of course, if it doesn't work out I will return it and go back to laptop land. No real loss either way.

Apple did too good of a job selling me on 3D Touch that neglecting to include it in the Pro version of the iPad has me holding off until next year. Muscle memory for 3D Touch will quickly become annoying when pressing deeper does nothing on the iPad Pro.

I may be wrong but, 3D Touch may not come to the iPad next year. If you look at the amount of weight it added to the iPhone, it might just make the iPad too heavy.

This seems like a very disjointed launch.
How so?

We should have seen the Air 3 this year with the A9 chip but Apple thought it best to hold back the regular iPad line to make the Pro look better.. I have no interest in the Pro. So annoyed!:mad:

What would an iPad Air with A9 do for you that the current Air doesn't do? Is the current Air not fast enough?

Good point! I assumed 3d touch would have been included

I guess you didn't see the keynote then because there was no mention of 3D Touch for iPad Pro.

I learned my lesson with the recent ATV4 launch that ordering on launch day was a mistake.

Having ordered 6 minutes after it went live on the Apple Store app and then finding out 2 days later I could have bought it in store that Friday and having to wait until last Thursday to receive it in the post, I think I will take my chances with store pickup.

Uhhh - why?

Because Apple usually launches a new product with very clear messaging about when it will be available for pre-order and in-store sales. But the first message about sales and ordering didn't even come from them. Three other retailers announced it before Apple did. Not like their normal launch.

I always assume that they have a strategy for these things, even when they don't make sense on the surface. Maybe that's the case here, and it will become apparent later.

Ugh, can guarantee most people will not be able to get one at launch because Apple feels this stupid need to push all these products to every country at one time.

Agree. They should make all products available to you Americans first. Because it is an American company right? Oh, but wait. You are not the largest market and only a fraction of the employees live in the US.

MURICA!!!

Wouldn't surprise me if they also hold back other basic features like landscape stereo speakers from the regular iPad line up in future for the same reasons. Hmph!

2012:
iPad 4 with A6X

2013:
Air 1 with A7

2014:
Air 2 with A8X

2015:
iPad Pro With A9X

2016:
Air 3 with A9X
iPad Pro 2 with A10X

I'm not so sure how much difference you would notice in real world use between the A10 and A9 and I'd rather they did that than have a big price premium for the Pro. Personally I'm pleased they've moved to 2 year upgrade cycle for the Mini and the Air as it means I'll only have to replace them every 2 years to keep with the latest tech.

I'm shocked this is launching in so many countries simultaneously. I guess this means they have the supply to handle it...or they don't have the supply and this is a retina MacBook situation all over again. Hopefully they learned from that fiasco.

Gotta get something off my chest here. We don't need a 12.9" iPad Pro to make the iPad a better device. Where's the love for the Air 2?

Stupid forced upsell. The air is plenty big and totally under utilized for its size. Make a bigger iPad if you want to but don't force people to buy it for trivial reasons.
Who's being forced to buy it? New technologies don't come to all Apple products at once. iPad Pro stuff will most likely find its way to the iPad Air next year. My guess though is the creative professionals this device is targeted towards want the larger display.

I thought pressing deeper's what the Pencil is for?

As far as I understand Force Touch, it makes much more sense on a phone-sized thing, where the size of an iPad lets you get away with multi-fingered gestures and a stylus becomes a more worthwhile form of "pressing deeper".

I don't think it's to do as much with supply as demand. It's been reported that Apple expect sales of the iPad Pro to be rather low (around 2.5 million) and so that allows them to spread that across more countries to try and maximise sales.

A year ago, I'd have thought the same way. But the closest B&M Apple Store is twenty miles away, and I now have three additional infants at home all day long. I can't pop out to the Apple Store on a whim, not knowing for sure what the stock levels will be. I'd rather place my order online and know it will be delivered to my door--even if it means strangers will get their hands on them days before I do.
