Just a guess based on what already happened this year. I could be wrong though. Wouldn't be the first time.

Is there something I can't do without the A9X? Honestly, probably not - my problem then? The Air 2 is priced the same now for last years hardware as it was at this time last year. As someone who was in the market for a new iPad this past year, it put me in an annoying position.
Personally I think they should have axed the Air 1 and dropped the price on the Air 2.

UK press release isn't online yet but has been emailed out to some journalists.

Confirmed prices so far are £679 for 32GB Wi-Fi, £899 for 128GB LTE, Apple Pencil £79 and Smart Keyboard £139*.

(*But disappointingly not available in a UK keyboard layout.)

Thanks. I always go for the top model so £899 for the 128GB WiFi + Cellular model sounds good to me.

I hope they have plans for 256GB and 512GB models down the line as I've not found a simple solution for carrying a large database of iTunes purchased content other than storing it on your iPad/iPhone internal memory.

No way. They are only doing it this one time to upsell the Pro. My best guess is in Spring Air 3, then in Fall Air 4, once they realize that the Pro isnt selling up to their standards.
Um, no. iPad sales clearly indicate the product doesn't need to be updated every year. And no, Apple will not be releasing two new Air's next year. The only reason they did in 2012 is because the A5X chip wasn't powerful enough to drive the Retina display.

I honestly don't know why they continue to keep the older models on sale. Surely it would be better to only sell the latest models. Otherwise it just gets confusing for most customers who don't follow Apple that closely. It's not like there is a big price difference between old and new models. Since Steve sadly passed away they seem to have lost that mantra of "keep it simple".

Unless my school load demands this before then, I'll hold off until the second gen at the very least. For Apple to really get me to buy this though, they need to get their act together software-wise. With the bs I've had to deal with in iOS 8 and 9, I just cannot do this now. Yes, the pen / drawing aspect is tempting as all heck, but watch and wait here.

I hope everyone who gets one loves it and creates some wonderful content with it.

I'm excited for this. My drawing skills on paper are crap, so if this turns out to be better I'm saved. Now I'm waiting for SurfacePad for iPad Pro.

Apple might be different to most companies in lots of ways but in this they definitely are not: if they keep selling, they're gonna keep making them.

Plus the margins on the older products will be huge compared to the brand new stuff.

They've got a very strong sales team to advise people on which model is best for them.

I still didn't find an answer on the internet about this:

Apple use the slogan: "We can’t wait to see what they do with iPad Pro"

My question is: Can i Start AND finish an drawing for professional use. My average paintings starts at 3840x2160 at 600 dpi in CMYK. Can it handle such files?

I wonder if the iPad pro would be an interesting investment as digital painter for an living. If i can draw on the couch or in bed and not need my desktop computer to finish a product.. the iPad Pro would be a nice device. But i am afraid this is not the case. Fun for sketching, but expensive if that is the case.

I work on a 27" cintiq touch as my daily driver

Maybe this answers your question (from the PR):

“Procreate 3 is designed for iPad Pro to give artists a more immersive experience than ever before,” said James Cuda of Savage Interactive. “iPad Pro’s gorgeous 12.9-inch Retina display lets you create massive artworks: up to an incredible 16K in resolution. This new level of definition allows for large format printing and exceptionally detailed artworks. Procreate 3 is also built for Apple Pencil. Its remarkable accuracy, pressure sensitivity, tilt detection and palm rejection make Apple Pencil the tool we’ve been waiting for.”

This is an odd launch. Clearly this device was thrown out there in response to the Surface Pro line. It's a device that doesn't really seem planned. The Pencil looks pretty cool though, and I bet the screen is gorgeous. Maybe Apple will figure out what they are doing with this device and it'll become useful. In the mean time, I'll pass.

iPad users have been asking for a larger screen version ever since it was launched, long before the Surface came along. If anything it's the other way around. The Surface is Microsoft's attempt to stem the flow of users migrating away from Windows laptops to the iPad and Android tablets.

Without 3D Touch I'll pass. I'm tired of Apple holding back features so they can drip drip drip innovate them in later on to entice upgrades. I feel like this initial version will be obsoleted sooner than the next model that will have the pressure sensor.

Or maybe it's just a little bit harder to implement this cutting edge technology in a massive 12,9 inch tablet than in a little 5,5 inch phone ...

I know, they've not given much info away. What time do orders start on the 11th? Can we pre-order on the 11th and collect in-store on the 13th? They haven't even revealed the international pricing yet. I know what it costs in the US but how much does it cost in the UK?

Really!! Another ATV4 mess of a release. Pre-order and get it after people can buy it in stores. What does "Available in stores LATER IN THE WEEK" mean? How about some definitive information!!!!!!!!

It's a shame that Apple couldn't bother to avoid launching on Remembrance Day.

Is this a political statement by Tim Cook, I wonder? I would never have wondered with Steve Jobs, because he never let politics interfere with Apple, whereas Cook has made political propaganda his calling card.

Putting this unfortunate lapse of judgment by Tim aside, I look forward to the iPad Pro going from strength to strength. I doubt that I’ll get the first generation, as Apple have a track record of under-powering their first products like the original iPhone, iPad and MacBook Air. Down the line, I hope to make this a replacement for the iPad Air 2.

Please don't make the mistake of thinking digital art is somehow easier than traditional media. It's certainly not, in fact if anything it's more difficult as the artist has so much control over the tools he needs to know exactly what he intends to achieve. Anyone who wants to get started with art should begin with traditional media, or at least supplement their digital work with it.

I think the older models are intended for educational purposes... Selling bulks to schools.

There is exactly £100 price difference across the board between the current and previous models of the Air and Mini on the Apple Store. I don't think they've done it to maintain margins as that extra £100 sale price probably evens out the margins across the range. I suspect this has more to do with countering the march of cheaper Android tablets by keeping cheaper models on sale.

I'm sorry but there is nothing wrong with launching on Wednesday. It's not like retail employees are off work or anything. Pre-Orders go on sale when they go on sale. There is nothing stopping people from pre-ordering and celebrating veterans on the same day. Pre ordering takes 5 minutes then the rest of the day is free to celebrate the veterans...like my parents and my siblings who've served. There is nothing political here. You are just seeing into it what you want to regardless of the facts.

I am happy with the air2 that I have. But if they can mature the pro well, I may purchase that in a couple of year instead of a laptop. At this point I have more invested in iOS software than in OSX software.
