Their customer is Apple. As long as Apple was happy how you felt is irrelevant sorry to say.

I'm sure Apple wasn't particularly happy. Especially based on my experience. I was very upset because it took 45 minutes of my time and three phone calls to get Apple to do the right thing and refund the overnight charges. I was in the store the within a couple of days of launch, and heard from Apple employees there that they had experienced frustrated customers who were trying to return Apple TVs that were delivered late (because the delay was with the carrier once it shipped).

You're correct that Apple was the customer. And as such it was incumbent on Apple to refund my shipping charges for shipments that were delayed by the carrier, then get a refund from the carrier for the service failure. But the fact is that most people don't think about, or care about that fairly subtle detail, and blame Apple for the delays that were the fault of UPS. So Apple took a bit of a black eye for UPS's screw ups.

How come it doesn't have the same cameras as the iPhone 6s? You would think it would be 4k and all that.

WTF Apple? I hate these soft launches. I clearly remember Steve Jobs making fun of other tablet manufacturers when iPad 2 came out, because they announced their tablets months before while Apple shipped all configuration of the iPad in about 2 weeks after the announcement. I think the tablets he made fun of were the Motorola's first Tablet and the HP/Palm tablet.

I still didn't find an answer on the internet about this:

Apple use the slogan: "We can’t wait to see what they do with iPad Pro"

My question is: Can i Start AND finish an drawing for professional use. My average paintings starts at 3840x2160 at 600 dpi in CMYK. Can it handle such files?

I wonder if the iPad pro would be an interesting investment as digital painter for an living. If i can draw on the couch or in bed and not need my desktop computer to finish a product.. the iPad Pro would be a nice device. But i am afraid this is not the case. Fun for sketching, but expensive if that is the case.

I work on a 27" cintiq touch as my daily driver

Gotta get something off my chest here. We don't need a 12.9" iPad Pro to make the iPad a better device. Where's the love for the Air 2?

Stupid forced upsell. The air is plenty big and totally under utilized for its size. Make a bigger iPad if you want to but don't force people to buy it for trivial reasons.

I'm buying. No one is forcing me.

We should have seen the Air 3 this year with the A9 chip but Apple thought it best to hold back the regular iPad line to make the Pro look better.. I have no interest in the Pro. So annoyed!:mad:

Wouldn't surprise me if they also hold back other basic features like landscape stereo speakers from the regular iPad line up in future for the same reasons. Hmph!

2012:
iPad 4 with A6X

2013:
Air 1 with A7

2014:
Air 2 with A8X

2015:
iPad Pro With A9X

2016:
Air 3 with A9X
iPad Pro 2 with A10X

Disagree, next year will be;

Mini 5: A9
Air 3: A10
Pro 2: A10X

In otherwords, the mini will now have last years chip, the air same chip as the phones and the 'X' chips reserved exclusively for the iPad pro.

Do they start taking orders at midnight on the 11th or whenever Apple rolls out of bed on the 11th? Also perhaps its a good sign they are releasing to 40 countries. Hopefully this means Apple has enough stock to go around during launch week.

I know, they've not given much info away. What time do orders start on the 11th? Can we pre-order on the 11th and collect in-store on the 13th? They haven't even revealed the international pricing yet. I know what it costs in the US but how much does it cost in the UK?

UK press release isn't online yet but has been emailed out to some journalists.

Confirmed prices so far are £679 for 32GB Wi-Fi, £899 for 128GB LTE, Apple Pencil £79 and Smart Keyboard £139*.

(*But disappointingly not available in a UK keyboard layout.)

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but aren't the x chips just optimized to drive larger devices/displays? If so, why would the Air 3 lose it just to lose it?

Just asking because I don't know - not being combative.

I don't get it. I thought with ipad sales slowing down, Apple would try and make the ipad air, their best selling ipad front and center, but instead they sell us on a niche product, and hold the air 3 back.

Who's being forced to buy it? A lot of people. Want the A9X? Buy an iPad pro. Apple branded stylus or keyboard cover? Buy an iPad Pro. Stereo speakers? Buy an iPad Pro.

The Air line from this point forward will be forever gimped with last years specs to make the Pro a more attractive purchase.

No reason the Air 2 couldn't have been updated this year with at least an A9x at a minimum or even support for those Apple branded accessories.

Apple is a large enough company - they can handle two iPad projects at once.
How do you know that next years Air will not have the latest SOC? It shouldn't surprise anyone that Apple wants the iPad Pro to be the 'star' this year. Is there something you can't do with the Air 2 that you would be able to do if it had an A9X chip?

I think Apple has figured out that there's no need to update the iPad every year. I suspect it may be on a two year upgrade cycle going forward.

One thing you have to realize, but don't need to be happy about it, is that Apple is heavily engaging the Education and Enterprise market. And in doing that, they cannot have incremental upgrades every year. Schools and businesses make huge investments in these devices and need assurances that their investment in these devices will be serviceable for many years. Additionally, Apple has learned that even consumers expect to keep their post-PC tablets for as long as they kept (or are still keeping) their other computers.

Like it or not, expect the entire iPad to be on a every other year upgrade cycle from here on out.

I thought the X chips were reserved for the iPad while the non X chips went into the iPhones.

The autumn 2016 update will have:
Mini 4 - same A8X with no upgrades
Air 3 - A9X + upgraded spec
Pro 2 - A10X + upgraded spec

This seems like a very disjointed launch.

Why? Makes a lot of sense to me.

Apple is letting potential customers know when they will begin accepting iPad Pro orders online. And that they'll be available in stores later in the week. I don't think that's something people will have difficulty understanding, and it will be easy enough to purchase one for those who are really interested.

"The Apple Pencil, a pressure-sensitive stylus"

Apple doesn't want anyone to use that word. Tim will start breaking out a sweat if he hears that.

Just asking because I don't know - not being combative.

Because the Air will no longer need the 'X' chip, especially if they are being designed to drive a 'pro' display.

The A10 will be more than capable of providing an update over the Air 2, while being easier to produce in bulk (along with the phones - compared to the A9X). And it still keeps a nice margin between the Air 3 and their flagship 'iPad pro 2'.

Just a guess based on what already happened this year. I could be wrong though. Wouldn't be the first time.

Is there something I can't do without the A9X? Honestly, probably not - my problem then? The Air 2 is priced the same now for last years hardware as it was at this time last year. As someone who was in the market for a new iPad this past year, it put me in an annoying position.

Is it going to be available in store Nov 11?
It's in the article.

The iPads last longer than the computers. That's the reality we live in. The quality of the iPad hardware and the iOS is unmatched by anything before it.

Apple today announced that its much-anticipated larger-screened iPad Pro will go on sale at Apple Stores, select carriers and Apple Authorized Resellers in the U.S. and over 40 countries starting later this week, with online orders set to begin on Wednesday, November 11.

While Apple will not begin accepting online orders until Wednesday, November 11, other retailers have already begun allowing customers to place orders for the iPad Pro. Sam's Club was the first to accept pre-orders but quickly sold out, while MacMall and Staples are still accepting orders. Ordering from one of these sites will not guarantee delivery later this week - MacMall doesn't expect orders to ship until November 16, while Staples lists a launch date of November 25.

Apple's iPad Pro is its new flagship tablet with a 12.9-inch Retina display, a super powerful A9X processor, a four speaker audio system, 4GB RAM, and an 8-megapixel rear camera.Pricing for the iPad Pro starts at $799 for the entry-level 32GB Wi-Fi only model. A 128GB Wi-Fi only model is available for $949, and a 128GB Wi-Fi + Cellular model is available for $1,079. The iPad Pro is available in the three signature iPad colors: Space Gray, Silver, and Gold.

iPad Pro will be available in Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cayman Islands, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greenland, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Russia, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, UAE, U.S., U.K., Uruguay and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Apple will also be allowing customers to order the Apple Pencil and the Smart Keyboard, the two accessories that are designed to be used with the iPad Pro. The Apple Pencil, a pressure-sensitive stylus, will be available for $99 while the Smart Keyboard is priced at $169.

Without 3D Touch I'll pass. I'm tired of Apple holding back features so they can drip drip drip innovate them in later on to entice upgrades. I feel like this initial version will be obsoleted sooner than the next model that will have the pressure sensor.

No way. They are only doing it this one time to upsell the Pro. My best guess is in Spring Air 3, then in Fall Air 4, once they realize that the Pro isnt selling up to their standards.
