I do wonder if I'm just unlucky enough to get bad screens every time I buy an Apple product, or if my eyes just pick up on things most people don't. The weird thing is that I have a handful of computers/tablets from other brands that I have no problems with. The crazy thing is that I keep buying Apple stuff. haha

It could be both. Perhaps you had a bad run on a few devices in a row, and now are overly sensitive to it and discerning for the issue every time you get a new one.

None of my Apple products new and old have screen issues like some of those I see here in this thread. I have several of them (iPods, iPads, iPhones, laptops, iMacs, Cinema Display) and except for a couple of dead pixels on my iBook G4, all the other displays have no other flaws like color tints or dust. And I am picky about the displays. Obviously there are QC issues on the iPad Pro manufacturing process.

This is one more reason I'll probably stay away from the iPad Pro and get a Surface Pro instead. :(

What!? Your post starts off by showing that over tons of devices and many years you've never had problems with Apple screens... and then you draw the conclusion that because of a few posts on the Macrumors forum you're going to buy a Surface Pro... that makes absolutely no sense.

I, personally, have an absolutely flawless iPad Pro screen. This is from someone who is very discerning and has even posted about "uneven" iPad screens I've had in the past.

Always remember: you are much more likely to see negative posts on a forum like this than positive ones (who would start a thread titled "My iPad Pro Has A Perfect Screen!"? No one would care). All of the thousands of people with perfect iPad Pros are off actually using their device... so they have no time to comment ;-)

It's not only a few posts. I've been reading various forums since November, trying to decide between an iPad Pro and a Surface Pro. The reports about the screen problems come on top of other issues which make the iPad Pro less and less attractive for me. At this moment the Surface Pro really looks like a better choice at least because (1) there is no waiting for a god damn Pen(cil), and (2) I could do real work on it using the real Adobe apps.

It sounds to me like you're trying to justify a decision you wanted to make anyway. Getting a Pencil is a short term, one time problem (I was able to just walk into a store and get one back in November) and there are tons of Adobe and other apps on the iPad Pro with many more coming.

But, by all means, if you're happy using Windows go for it. I could personally NEVER use Windows again (I haven't for about 7 years). I hear decent things about the new Surface Pro from people that can stomach the operating system it runs ;-)

The first pro I got was horrible with the tint. The second had really bad back light bleed. I am very disappointed.

I even had the pencil and smart keyboard all ready to go.

Still thinking about getting a 3rd but it really is a PIA to exchange these things...

One more thing... The Surface Pro 4 is horrible if you are expecting the device to not have backlight bleed...

I just returned my SP4 yesterday (exchanged once already), after almost a month, because it is terrible!.. I'd much rather get a SP3 right now!

The SP4:

- Battery life is nowhere close to as advertised.
- Touch is iffy. Sometimes, I had to tap multiple times before it registers the touch (not so on the SP3)
- Onscreen keyboard is laggy. Also, it doesn't get called every time it should! Very annoying.
- Screen becomes unresponsive out of the blue!! Again, very annoying, especially when you're taking notes in a business meeting!!!
- The eraser on the pen is very sensitive. I usually ended up erasing more than I wanted to! There should've been a sensitivity adjustment for the eraser. The 'Surface' app does not offer that ability.

Otherwise, Windows 10 is great.. The SP4's build is A+ and I hardly, if ever, heard the fan come on or the tablet heat up! I had the i5/8/256 version.

a thread ive been involved in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7338273?start=0&tstart=0

ive been though a lot of ipad pros and even though its a superb machine and the pencil is a god send the screen is the biggest let down..i would describe it as a blotchy screen not uniform ..all the ipad pro 32gb are uniform and white looks like white im assuming these are Samsung panels and the 128gb ones are sharp ..my surface book uses a Panasonic panel and the uniform of the screen is superb.my ipad air 2 is uniform ..none of these are going to come close to oled screens but I expected better from apple .I feel it was rushed out a bit maybe because of surface pro 4 ...one thing I will say is I have fell in love with the 4.3 12.9 ipad pro screen size I could never go back to 16.9 ratio myself..for anyone who thinks they have a good display the only way to find out is take your ipad pro to the store and open up settings and look at the uniform screen of the 32gb demo models and you will be shocked how bad yours is ..I think all the panels are sharp..maybe the shop demo ones are Samsung to get you drawn in and see how inky the whites are ..when I sketch on a white screen I don't want half of it to be white and the other half to be yellow..for the price of this thing I expect better quality

Hm I appear to be the luckiest guy on the planet then - My iPP has a perfectly fine screen. 128GB wifi

Btw: As a owner of a fully calibrated screen on my nMP - A slight yellowish tone is pretty perfect. That's what any screen after proper calibration ends. I guess most expect wrongly calibrated screens from apple (the blueish ones) and a few get such wrongly calibrated screens. Strangely the ones with the fine screens complain and not the ones with the bad ones...

The problem though that I have seen on some is that if you read from left to right across the screen you go from a white background to a yellow background it is annoying in this manner.

I would have the to say that my iPad Pro 128GB Silver has no screen defects. I have found none so far in general, there is a very slight light bleed when the screen is neutral black. It's barely noticeable though (it's nothing compared to the Surface Pro light bleeds)

I went through 3 iPad Air's before I found one without a yellow tint screen. It was a huge piss off for both myself and best buy. I'm not sure why the others were all so yellow but I do believe it's a defect that some people probably don't notice.

It was years ago, when the very first person said "my screen has a yellow tint", and since then it's become the norm to look for this, real or imagined. I have found that most new buyers of an iPad (never had one before) don't look for the tint issues and most are happy with them.

I'm not saying that there aren't legitimate defective screens, I just think that as a collective "we" have got to the point where 5, 6, even 10 returns in search of a screen with no tint, blue tint, whiter, etc. has become normal... And that just so ain't normal.;)

I don't care if it is a little "yellow" but I do care if half the screen is yellow and other half is white. That is NOT acceptable.

That's my thinking. I don't mind a warmer or cooler screen - I do mind one that is half blueish and half yellow (or some other tint).

It looks like the screen tint will become an official feature of iOS.

Night Shift uses your iOS device’s clock and geolocation to determine when it’s sunset in your location. Then it automatically shifts the colors in your display to the warmer end of the spectrum, making it easier on your eyes. In the morning, it returns the display to its regular settings.

I still think what many here consider to be white be the ugly wrong blue-white.

You may be very well right on this. However, I can assure you I have seen Pro screens where you're reading an article say at Macrumors and as you read across the screen, some of the line is white and then you transition into a yellow background towards the end of the same line. That is a fairly negative experience. I think what I want at least is just decent uniformity. I don't want to notice the shift as I read across the screen an article.

You're right. I don't really care if it's blue-white or yellow-white. I just want a screen that's all one version of white. I sent back the 6th and final iPad Pro today. Going with a Mini instead.

And what was the concern with yours? You were seeing screens that weren't uniform like I have seen on several?

I hope you get a great mini. Those are quite nice!

I posted a pic earlier in this thread of a screen that was uneven. It was sadly the best of the bunch that I had. I'm hopeful the Mini doesn't disappoint! Now I just have to find someone to buy my apple pencil and iPad case.

Here's my current display. Runs much warmer/pink toward the left side of the screen (toward the camera)

I posted before my screen looked fine but know I looked at it with a white background and it looks exactly like that. Really disappointing, does apple respond for this issues?

If you're past your return period, you can take it to an Apple Store and see if the Genius Bar will help. As a fair warning, these kinds of issues are often difficult to see in their stores because of the lighting.
