I’m really starting to like driving a monitor with my 2018 12.9” iPad Pro (with the exception of the black borders). I just wish the next version of iOS would fully embrace my multi-button Logitech MX Mouse 3.

Now with rumors of a 2021 iPad Pro I’m wondering if I should skip my initial plan to get an ARM Apple laptop if Apple even further narrows the difference between laptops and tablets?

My real problem is I’d like a 2020 ARM laptop as well and the 2021 iPad Pro 😁
I’m having the same first world problem conundrum ! I like the iPad Pro but the OS is a bit limited tough i like the option of touchscreen. An arm Macbook pro with big sur that runs iPad apps ( though no touch screen) as well as Mac OS apps might be a good compromise until the ipad evolves a bit more. So maybe I keep my iPad Pro 2018 and get an arm MacBook Pro though I also like the sound of the a14x iPad Pro with mini led so confusing

I hope it doesn’t i tried using the 2020 ipad camera for professional pictures and lets just say it’s too big and heavy for continuous sessions. It’s just too huge. I’m talking about the 12.9” model, smaller is better
Have to assume this is a joke?
Good point. My point still stand for TouchID-enabled power button.
Well they added it to the iPad Air to keep the costs down, but enable smaller bezels rather than any other thing. It was likely alreadyy on the cards before the epidemic and is likely nothing to do with that.
The iphones didn’t get it this year as they’re likely finalised to late for it to be feasible. Before the epidemic got to the stage it’s at, they were adamant and all in on Face ID on the flagships - this is likely to change with the advent of mask wearing necessary for the at least foreseeable future.
I do absolutely hope the iphones get it next year though. Not for anything but for the extra security of (hopefully) having the option of 2 biometric factors for unlock or authentication. Would be cool.

Seems good.

I will not upgrade my iPad Pro 1st gen unless there is a screen equal to or better than OLED technology.

Having true blacks is my most appreciated feature on my iPhone 12, and it will make an even bigger difference in Kindle and the Notes app on the iPad.

I'll imagine showing devices with mini-LED alongside current technology will have the desired effect on sales for Apple.

This is what I want to hear about. I’m ready to upgrade from a 10.5 pro and looking to up size to 12.9. With new screen tech, way faster processor, and a strong running current iPad, I’m waiting.

What I want to know:
Price - same or up?
Will there be an 11”?
How much of a beast will the chip be?

Better to test these features on a device lineup that sells 45 million units a year before you implement them on a device lineup that sells 190+ million a year.
I figured that might be the reason. Haha

Why do I have these sad feeling that the 2021 Pro with miniLED will be 12.9" only, and no more 11"...
Perhaps, but maybe at the initial launch. They may stagger the launch the way they did with the 2015 iPad Pro 12.9” then launched the 9.7” iPad Pro the following Spring.

Do you (we) think that the new iPad Pro will have both TouchID and FaceID?

I'm still not sure if Apple is gonna use TouchID just in "cheaper" models (because it seems to be still cheaper than FaceID), or the Pro Models will get both options.

Cool. I’ll buy it. how about moving (or adding) the camera to center landscape? maybe add a camera that auto rotates between the two according to user orientation? take my $.

Mini LED is an improved backlighting scheme for LCD panels. Dark areas of the screen will look darker on a Mini LED screen.

This will not be equal to OLED.

I'll get one of these. But I refuse to go ARM on the Mac
Big mistake to ditch Intel and AMD. They have years of experience designing Processors. APPLE makes errors. lots just look at macOS beta's.
The entire purpose of beta version software is to expose bugs and fix them. Errors are expected.

Comparing beta software to production CPUs is bizarre and unfair. But for what it's worth, production CPUs have flaws as well.

I just got myself an iPad Pro 12.9' but I have the option to return it within the next month. I was wondering if you would be able to convince me doing that. Of course, I can read the article but I don't really understand the implications. e.g. is the form factor expected to change?

That said, I am kind of happy with my current purchase, I am a premed student and taking notes, annotating PDFs on the thing is wonderful. Though, I know I'll be disappointed if there is a major upgrade to the device in the coming months because I know I will be holding on to the tablet for many years.

Feel free to send me a message if you have advice.

Thanks
I'm in the same boat--just received my new 12.9 IPP yesterday, in fact! I have until February to return it, thanks to B&H's relaxed return policy, so plenty of time to think about it. One thing to consider: the rumor states release in March, but this would be a departure from the last several releases, which have been running on an 18-month cycle. So, it could be in March, but it might very well not happen until Fall 2021. How long do you want to wait?

I think the years of iPhone & iPad Axx cpus qualify as experience.
