Wireless charging for an iPad seems very useless to me. Even a MagSafe-like charging implementation for an iPad seems unnecessary to me.

Its strange, I feel we have reached the point where at least pertaining to the Pro's, any real improvements will need to come from a drastic overhaul of the OSX system. A speed bump here or a better camera there just isn't enough.

You know what would be a huge upgrade port-wise for iPad (Pro)? Multiple ports and convert the Smart Connector to (wired) MagSafe, allowing charging via both MagSafe and USB-C ports ala MBP.

Oh, cool, wireless charging on yet another device! Maybe this one will use a fourth incompatible standard, since the current standards supported by Apple devices are:
1. MagSafe for iPhone
2. MagSafe 3 for MacBook Pro
3. Qi for iPhone

Put me down as proposing MagSafe 4 for the new iPad.
MagSafe 3 is not wireless - it’s not even inductive.

My iPad Pro 10.5" was recently rendered useless because its Lightning port failed and I can no longer charge it.
I'd be happy to see wireless charging in the next iPad Pro, if only for redundancy.

Correct. And it is very convenient since it adds charging port on the left, so when the iPad Pro is mounted on the Magic Keyboard you can connect the charging cable to either side.

Which reminds me that what I said before wasn't quite right since I'll plug into my iPad from either the left or right depending on how I'm using it . . .
On the contrary, I sometimes connect that keyboard port to computer, thinking pass through was a thing but it is not. Yes, I do connect my iPad to computer every now and then to install apps and sync data.

Well, the magic keyboard could be seen as a giant MagSafe charger for the iPad Pro in a sense.

I was as leery on here as anyone re: blooming, but I haven‘t seen any blooming on the Mac Pro with mini led, so i imagine it isn‘t a big deal in actual use on the iPad Pro either.
Do you use it in dark mode all the time?

My iPad Pro 10.5” also failed because the screen became unresponsive & there were burn in discolorations from where my fingers pressed into while holding from reading in bed. I think we both got a long useful life out of ours. I’m very pleased with the current iPad Air that I replaced it with.

I wonder if Apple has plans to remove the usb c port altogether on upcoming iPads, as a test before they do the same for upcoming iPhones...

I hope Apple is able to do the double layer OLED displays soon, I would definitely upgrade for that. I think it will be a while before we see mass production of microLED panels at the scale & price Apple would require. I think those will be revolutionary when they finally arrive.

They "can't" due to having multiple recent model years of cars out there with wired-only CarPlay, unless there is an officially supported adapter. Imagine paying tens of thousands of dollars for a car a couple years ago and you are faced with a situation where you will lose CarPlay functionality if you upgrade your phone.

I don’t need the iPad to wireless charge itself. I need it to have a keyboard case/cover that will wirelessly charge my iPhone and AirPods.

Plug in the iPad via USB-C and lay it down on the nightstand. And then lay the iPhone and AirPods on top of it. Heck, add in Apple Watch charging and you have the ultimate travel setup. A single USB-C power adapter and charging for all your devices.

They got rid of the old 25-pin connector at a time when lots of cars had built in connectors for ipods.

Wireless CarPlay exists for a reason, plus there will always be dongles that Apple will be happy to sell to you. ?

Yes, and the OG iPod required FireWire, which was notably absent on iMacs that were then recent. I think the much greater functionality of CarPlay and the possibility of losing it unless you buy a new car or avoid buying a new phone is a huge issue, here.

I have seen some, but I don't think there is one that is officially supported or carried in the Apple Store (yet). I could see Apple acquiring one of the companies that manufactures them.

iPads are build to last and I don’t see the need to update if you’ve bought one in the last couple years. I’m just waiting for the price of the Air 4 (256GB) to drop to the $500-600 range.

I don't wanna lose my 120Hz!
My Pro was still working perfectly smoothly for me. My iPad 3 was not doing nearly as well at 4 years old :) .
I was just reminded that my Pro can charge through the Smart Connector, so I may have to buy the (pricey!) Logitech charging stand.
Battery life has been quite crappy as well, though.

I want to upgrade because the tech has advanced significantly, not because of failure of a part. I've been waiting for a mini-LED or OLED display in the 11" before upgrading.
