Are those all suburbs of the US? I understand they ship to New York City. That is almost part of the United States.

Almost? IT IS

and no, they are not "suburbs", they are not even on the same continent.

Before people get too worked up about this, we should cover what we know:

1) iPads are now available to be shipped in one day via the online US Apple Store
2) iPads are now available without a wait at most US Apple Stores
3) iPads are only in-stock at some US BestBuy's and not available yet for online ordering
4) iPads are not available shipped from Amazon (although they are available through the Amazon marketplace at an increased price)
5) iPads are not available at WalMart or Target
6) iPads have been partially rolled-out overseas; availability at international Apple Stores seems to be good

This points to either increased production, decreased demand or both. If it were only increased production, the facts would look like they do now. If it were decreased demand only, then you would expect Apple to stuff the channel with their newfound surplus stock (more countries, more stores).

"Decreased demand" is also a tricky statement, because you have to know to what you are comparing demand. Decreased relative to launch hysteria? Decreased relative to Apple's (admittedly low) initial sales estimates? Decreased relative to Apple's newly enlarged sales estimates? I would expect some drop relative to launch demand - but there may be plenty of people who have been trying to acquire the device who have not been able to do so.

As Master Chief brought up on a previous thread, LG appears to be the only confirmed source of IPS panels; they have been rumored to be the limiting factor in production. My guess is that LG has ramped production and we are just now seeing it in the channel.

We should know more Wednesday.

I think it's also due to the fact that anyone who wanted one already got one. Demand has slowed down, which is understandable.

Hmm... The iPad is barely just reaching supply-demand balance in the 10-15 initial-launch countries, there are still at least 30-50 countries for the iPad and iPhone4 to be launched. Remember, these other markets will contribute strongly to Apple's profit, revenue and unit sales. Some more than others of course, but remember these 60 to 70 countries in aggregate are what give record total sales of Macs and iPhone 3G/S quarter after quarter.

Demand is still massive, Apple is still trying to keep up, and iPad and iPhone4 has still a lot more of the GLOBAL market to conquer, Apple still has to ramp up production even more if they can. They are doing the best they can without quality going to the dogs.

You are assuming the media event is a big product launch. They could be getting a bunch of people together to play guitar and celebrate the new shipping dates for the iPad.

That'd be hilarious if it happened

Yes, clearly they won't sell any more of these.

I thought odedia made a perfectly valid point. He never said they's stop selling, he simply gave a possible reason why shipping estimates have improved. I take it that you've a much better reason but it's far too intelligent to share with the rest of us. You'd rather just sit in the corner and make rolleyes at us, huh?

.

They will though. At least Walmart. Target on the other hand I do not know, though target is going to have extra AP on hand (AP = assist protection, otherwise known as "Security" ) during the first week of september as they are getting a new product that is "high theft" and they are "one of the first retailers to get it" and I dobut its the new kindle since thats not that "high theft" (whos going to steal an e-reader?) so it has to be the ipad, the new ipods or even - if annouced- the new Apple TV.

or it could even be a whole new product

yeah and sing kumbaya.

I was simply pointing out the probable silliness of the statement "anyone who wanted one already got one." The fact Apple has finally caught up with production does not mean demand has disappeared, as his/her comment implies. I'm sure Apple will continue to sell millions more of these, so clearly there are people out there who want them who do not yet have them.

I think it's also due to the fact that anyone who wanted one already got one. Demand has slowed down, which is understandable.

That's what they said when the first million iPods were sold. They said the same when the first ten million iPods were sold, when the first 100 million iPods were sold, when the first million iPhones were sold, and so on and so on and so on.

And that's how you finish a long weekend without any news, right before a big product launch - make the un-newsworthy newsworthy. :)

Anyway, I still don't want an iPad and I don't like it in its current form, but I accept that at least over 3 million people disagrees or at one point disagreed with me.

Why is this surprising to anyone. The iPad cannabilized iPod sales.
Apple is just about to release a 3G iPod with front facing camera.
You'd be a fool to get the iPad now.

Sir,

There is the City and then there is the supporting lands that you may know as America.
These accessory lands are detailed quite nicely in the picture below.
You, of course, should not choose to live in these accessory lands during your formidable years or else lose total self-respect.

Loving my UK unlocked iPad :)

3G and 32GB, I won't be needing an iPhone. The web is awesome on this.

Where is the poster who was predicting that the ipad was going to be an epic fail?

Waiting feverishly by their keyboard for the Sept. 1st keynote so that they can jump all over the announcement and say [Product Whatever] is going to be an epic fail.

the new nano or the 3G touch (if it comes out)

I also thought it was going to fail. Perhaps once iOs 4 comes out, the iPad can truly shine. Perhaps multitasking will be done differently to take advantage of the large screen. Eirther way I can't wait.

Only took a few months for demand to die down enough. I wonder how many people that already have a Mac bought an iPad as well? Maybe that's why the numbers are so closely linked?

Interestingly enough, of the the 7 people I know that own iPads, none of them own a Mac. I own one too and I don't own a Mac.

I spent a big chunk of my summer in Manhattan this year (Not far off of 68th and Broadway). Great city Some of the nicest people in the world. The food is fantastic. I love the street side vegetable stands. I plan to spend quite a bit of time in NYC from now on.

Edited to say: The only problem I had was the taxi drivers. Some of them were crazier than I am. No one should be as crazy as me.
