I think that this is evidence of Apple changing the design. I really hope they are adding a front facing camera.

As I recall the latest gen iPod touch had similar constraints before it was announced. This was most likely due to Apple removing the camera. It is logical to assume that Apple changed their design, which could be described as a defect.

Time will tell. I believe it is going to ship with iPhone os 4.0 though.

Pre-orders

It is just to help push pre-orders, or they've had to open them all up to stick the 3 dollar camera in them

Boo-urns! Of course after I get mine at the end of April I don't care at all ... constrain away.

iPads going on Ebay for $1000, anyone?

When the 1st iPhone came out, some went on eBay for $1 Million or more (but I think it was just to make more people go to that listing & not really expecting that much).

So I'm gonna estimate Apple will sell 1,000KKK units in the first year. :p J/K

I just did the math. If 1,000KKK means 1,000,000,000,000 (1 trillion) are sold and there are about 7,000,0000,000 (7 billion) people in the world, that roughly comes to 143 per person. As much of a fanboi I may be, I don't need 143 (or even 1 for that matter).

According to Appleinsider

If this was actually according to Appleinsider themselves, then I might believe it. But it is actually according to some random Apple analyst with a questionable track record. He predicted a verizon iPhone and OS 4.0 at the iPad event.

I don't think this is deliberate (to generate buzz?) since it's ominously vague. I really don't like the sound of, “An unspecified production problem" in the quoted article.

If it's just a shortage of parts then okay. If it's high fallout and rework (since they're likely ramping up production now) that's not so good.

Revolutionary Technology.

Apple is putting some very breaking edge technology into these devices. If rumors are true, the iPad will not run on electrons but anti positrons. The first generation device will also have an optional Continuum Transfunctioner. This level of technological progress takes time.

I wouldn't mind a little extra wait, gives me some more time to save up so I can get the 64GB 3G.

You do realize that you can choose to wait and save up for the model you want regardless of apple's release date, don't you?

what is the word you speak of? "Waiting"?

People don't wait anymore. Noone saves up, no layaway. No cash upfront.

This is the problem.

could be spreading false rumors

maybe cramer needs to spread some rumors to drive down stock price.

It's all moot if the FCC approval hasn't gone through by the intended launch date, anyway.

just because it hasn't leaked to the public doesn't mean that Apple is still waiting for that approval.

Just a few short weeks away until the launch. I guess if we don't see pre-orders going up on the Apple site soon, we'll know it's delayed!

or that Apple isn't going to do pre-orders. They might decide that doing reservations etc is just too insane for the stores to deal with and make that opening week or so strictly first come first get. Which is what I think they did with the iphone 3g.

Seems like a convenient way for Apple to build hype in advance of the launch. They need big crowds at their stores for the media to cover on launch day.

folks will line up on any launch day. they don't need to build hype.

sounds like someone needs the stock price to drop a few points. analysts on apple are the absolute worst. i'd trust more people on these message boards than the overpaid "professionals"

i was thinking toying with the stock price myself. it would be a logical reason for an analyst to make such a negative statement.

Apple keeps things under wraps until they are ready to release. It's hard to believe that any major issues would slip by until now. Especially major hardware issues.

Also, where did these 800k to 1 million numbers come from. I doubt it was Apple or Foxcomm (that's who this Hon Hai actually is by the by). Some analyst probably made the numbers up and now it's 'fact'. Apple isn't the type to give out even estimates, shipping details etc. It's just not their way.

I think it is unlikely that this is true but....and it's a BIG BUT....I could see this a ploy by Steve and the gang to squash the rumors floating around of a potential drop in the sell price. If supply is low and demand is high they wouldn't have any reason to lower the price.

Steve

If this delays only the Wi-Fi version it may force more people to simply wait for the 3G version, since the release dates would be closer.
