Or they want to create a culture where they are hard to come buy, thus giving the appearance to the uneducated customer that the product is very popular.

Well, obviously it is more important for Apple to make you believe their product is popular (with the small caveat that the truth comes out in the next SEC filings and then the stock drops like a stone), than to actually sell lots and make lots of money.

Could it be because they're implementing some other unannounced changes in the hardware? Probably unlikely and the reasons mentioned above are more likely.

You mean a camera? That would be extremely nice. I'd love to see one in this version. It would increase my willingness to buy the first gen product.

Touche!

However if the main stream media get hold of this and it is just a 'figment of Apple's imagination' then as the iPad is hyped more, more people should want to buy one, increasing stock prices.

(maybe)

iCancelled - on Two 64G WiFi Models

If the iPads don't ship in March, Apple will lose my purchase of two 64G WiFi models.

sounds like someone needs the stock price to drop a few points. analysts on apple are the absolute worst. i'd trust more people on these message boards than the overpaid "professionals"

Could they be adding a camera? Idk. Possibly. But I can probably call BS on this shortage. Well, idk? It is a different manafacture company. So I don't really care right now. Idk about you people, but yeah..

And isn't it iPhone 3.2? Not 4.0 which I really hope & expect this summer. I still call the Verizon rumors BS for this summer. and it's obvious that it's coming from verizon's mouth. Cause when ever you ask, it's always a "represenative" that answers first!

Seems like a convenient way for Apple to build hype in advance of the launch. They need big crowds at their stores for the media to cover on launch day. If people think there are constrained supplies, they are probably more likely to line up.

Some people have nothing better to do with their time than line up for hours for a gadget anyway, so the lines will be there regardless of supply :p

Oh, this waiting is driving me nuts!

But as some others have posted, I'm interested in a 32GbE WiFi model and hopefully the demand for that model will not be high. *Fingers crossed*

Hope this report is wrong. If supplies are constrained at launch we'd see a lot of people just hopping in line at Apple Stores so they can buy an iPad to ebay. Luckily the iPhone launches have avoided that mess, hopefully the iPad can too.

The possible reasons for the delay could include some or all of the following:

1. Needed regulatory approval delays
2. Last minute design changes by Apple to correct issues or add features
3. Artificially limiting supply
4. Material shortages for components
5. Pure hype and speculation - the device will deliver as expected

In my view, the most interesting scenario would be item 2; the most unlikely are items 1 and 3; and 4 would be the most likely with 5 being the preferred outcome.

What is the Chinese word for B.S. report? Whatever it is that what this rumor is.

As for creating artificial demand -- why would Apple need to do this with a product that by all legit reports already has sizable demand? Intentionally limiting production, would, in fact, hurt Apple long term. What is now an impulse item suddenly becomes a delayed purchase, or even an aborted purchase. It also increases the cost of production and kills the economy of scale, two things vital to Apple's huge profit margin on the iPad.

Wow, they wanted to have 1 Million for the first month?? That is confidence.

With everyone saying how useless it is, how could they possibly move 300K the first month, let alone a million units?

Someone recently dug up some stats on 2009 tablet sales(working from memory):

Pure tablets: ~100K
Convertibles: ~1000K

That was for the year. If Apple actually moves millions of iPads in 2010, that will be a ridiculous success.

Digital Daily reports on a new research note from analyst Peter Misek at Canaccord Adams claiming that availability of Apple's iPad tablet device may be limited at its launch later this month, citing a "manufacturing bottleneck" at partner Hon Hai Precision that may result in initial distribution being limited to the U.S. or even delayed entirely.
"We have ... heard that the upcoming iPad launch may be somewhat limited as a manufacturing bottleneck has impacted production of Apple's newest device," Misek writes. "An unspecified production problem at the iPad's manufacturer, Hon Hai Precision, will likely limit the launch region to the US and the number of units available to roughly 300K in the month of March, far lower than the company’s initial estimate of 1,000K units. The delay in production ramp will likely impact Apple's April unit estimate of 800K as well. It is also possible that, given the limited number of units available in March, the launch will be delayed for a month."
The source and veracity of Misek's information is unknown, although it is perhaps wise to note that Misek predicted that Apple's January media event that saw the introduction of the iPad would also include the introduction of iPhone OS 4.0 and an announcement regarding a Verizon-compatible iPhone for mid-2010, neither of which came to fruition.
