An iMac runs a desktop operating system. A Mac Pro runs a desktop operating system. A rack-mounted server can run a desktop operating system............

Excluding the server. An iMac, a Mac Pro, a MacBook, and a MS Surface are all Personal Computers....

Either way MacBook is beating Surface in consumer polls.

One's a laptop, one's a tablet. iPad Pro == Surface. Macbook /= Surface. Since they're both personal computers, can I compare an iMac to a Macbook Air? No.

Depends. If you're talking about the Surface RT, then yes, but the rest of the line does run a full desktop OS and runs all Windows desktop software. Comparing that to an iPad would be an unfair comparison for the iPad.

And they are not all in the same class. Period. An iMac cannot be compared with a Macbook, just like a Macbook cannot be compared with a Surface.

Of course they can be compared. What are you some kind of nut? They're all personal computers. Sure they come in different packages, but the end goal is the same.

iPad Pro. Which Apple have specifically designed to compete with the Surface for a reason, because they have had nothing in this sector at all. It was Apple's own dumb decision to load it with iOS.

Surface RT run windows... You still have the desktop experience.

Apple Watch would be way higher, I think, if consumers really understood how tremendously it simplifies daily life - and of course had a compatible iPhone. I was pretty 'meh' about it, especially being a version 1.0 product, when it was announced. I cannot imagine not having one now. My wife, who has a hate-love relationship with all tech and never knows where her iPhone is, absolutely loves hers.

Just like a car can be compared with an aeroplane. At the top level sure you can compare specs, but they're completely different product categories aimed at completely different market segments. The fact that they have an operating system in common and have some electronics inside doesn't make them comparable

I think you're just upset Apple products cost so much in Australia... The iPad is a different class then the Surface.. Sure they both have touch as an input, but so does my touch screen monitor for my PC... Is my PC the same as a Surface?

I think a lot of people are still recovering the pieces from the bomb Apple dropped that is the iPhone...

I for one don't want to be attached to so many technologies. I still want to vacuum my house and open the windows, because there is a certain element of happiness gotten from that... Same applies to all technologies that replace common tasks.

Most consumers don't have an iPhone. Apple enthusiasts tend to overlook that.

Ummmmm......what does the price of Apple products in Australia have to do with anything (which at the current exchange rate actually come in at the same if not cheaper than US...)?

What was the main thing that the iPad Pro was aimed at? People wanting a professional workspace that was super portable and could be used on the go in any situation. What is the Surface aimed at? The exact same thing.

Just because Apple stuck iOS 9 on a device that screamed for a desktop OS, doesn't make it comparable to an iMac. By your logic, when someone is looking at buying a new computer just for home, they're going to sit down and think hmmmmm should I buy a Macbook which is specifically made to be portable and as energy efficient as possible to maximise battery or will I buy a desktop computer which is what I am actually looking for? No. They sit down and compare different iMacs. Possibly the Mac Pro. Possibly Windows desktops.

Exact same for Windows users. Do they have a toss up between getting a Surface to sit on a desk in an office at home and never move, or a desktop computer.

So where is the Gear S2, LG Urbane, Moto Almost 360, and Huawei Watch? I ask because the tech meme seems to be round is better. Yet none of those watches make this list.

I know plenty of people who own MacBooks just for home...

Mobile OS:
iPad
iPhone
Android
Windows Phone
etc.

Desktop OS:
Macs
Windows PCs (including Surface)

iPad is just a bigger iOS device, it doesn't put it in a different class just by stitching Pro to the end.. Same goes for Surface Pro...

There are Personal Computers, devices that run Desktop Operating systems. And Mobile Devices, devices that run Mobile Operating systems.

With my logic you can mac a comparison between a Macbook and a Surface. And people do all the time; look up Macbook vs Surface...

I think most people see smart watches as completely pointless. Why have a watch that tells me I have a text message when I can just look at my phone.

I agree. I think most people reply to that text using their phones anyway, so whats the point of having a watch?

Sometimes it's good to just step out of the anti-social portal, do the dishes, talk to real life folks, and then return to your anti-social portal.

So by your logic, the iPad Pro is in the same class as an iPhone 4S (both run latest iOS), and Apple have created it to compete with the Microsoft Lumia smartphone? Eh....no. They created it to compete with the Surface/Surface Pro. Everyone but you knows that.

By your logic, someone who is considering a Range Rover (iMac 27"/Mac Pro) will also be considering a Peel P50 (Macbook/Macbook Air 11")? They're both cars? They both do the same thing?

A small hint for you: just because you have your logic, doesn't mean you share the logic with the majority. Not to say my logic does but you're so adamant that your logic is perfect on this one....................just saying. BTW I'm not actually in any heated keyboard war over this (if it comes across that way), I'm genuinely interested as to why you believe your way is the logical way etc.

A vacuum beat the Apple Watch.

But the Apple Watch is the most coveted digital watch, and the second-most coveted wearable.

Look, the wearable market is not as big as the phone and iDevice market...but it is a large one, and Apple wants dibs.

Of course my logic isn't unanimous, you're here. Surface Pro is equivalent in comparison to the Macbook. And its look like the Macbook is in the lead. And yeah people do consider Macbooks when purchasing a Mac... I see it all the time at the Apple store... It's just finding the form factor you're comfortable with. And of course there are different beasts in the same class, you're a good observer! That being said, the Macbook and the Surface are generally considered the same class by the majority of tech syndicates.
