"Bust" is the wrong term because it infuriates people and makes them eager to disprove you. So how about you phrase it like this...
Is "The New iPad" the iPad you'll want to keep for the next 2 years?
Because if its not then that means there's still something missing and its not illogical to say you expected more.
I will be sure to do this the next time. I now realize that bust is of utmost taboo on this forum. I never meant controversy when I posted this, I was only questioning the features that are making people upgrade. For me I couldn't justify the ROI for a retina display alone.
It will obviously sell, but tell me what features are making you buy it? I agree that upgrading from a 1st to a 3rd would be worth it, but what features are making you upgrade from a 2 to a 3?
I wasn't "disappointed" because the announcement included exactly what I expected.
Since I don't do microsurgery on an iPad the retina display is nothing more than eye candy to me. I'm sure those who use the iPad for photo and video editing will find the enhancements worthwhile, but that's not me. And since I don't live in a closet I don't have to hold an iPad 15 inches from my face to watch a HD movie.
I'm sure many will appreciate 4G/LTE connectivity. I've been using Verizon's for almost a year on my wifi iPad 2 and it's great. But if you plan to use it to watch movies on that retina display, better cut down on the lattes. It's going to cost you a bundle in carrier charges.
All in all an incremental advance over the iPad 2. It will sell like hot cakes to legions of fanboys who must have the latest Cupertino has to offer. And for those who haven't already succombed to the iPad's siren song, the pretty pictures will be an added incentive. Finally, for the every other generation folks, there's an obvious appeal in moving from the iPad to the "new" iPad. But except for some niche markets I don't see much in terms of extended functionality.
It will put added pressure on the Android tablet manufacturers (as if the pressure weren't already enough.) Other than 3D (without the dorky glasses), I'm not sure how competitors like Samsung can respond. But I suspect that the biggest impacts on those manufacturers will be the continuation of the 16 gig iPad 2 at $399.
Apple will probably outsell itself with every new product it puts out for some time, regardless of how much more advanced it is than its predecessor. That's because a lot of people out there want the "latest and greatest" and there are still a lot of people converting to Apple products. I think a better word to describe it is disappointing. But now we get to think about what the REAL iPad 3 will bring... Or better yet, the iPad 4!!
It will obviously sell, but tell me what features are making you buy it? I agree that upgrading from a 1st to a 3rd would be worth it, but what features are making you upgrade from a 2 to a 3?
curious... did the apple store have problems with everyone pre-ordering when iPhone 4S come out?
The only "bust" about this is that they didn't improve the speaker. A rearward facing speaker has been the worst thing about my iPad 2. I really need s case that channels the sound to the front. If I'm watching a tv show in bed I need to constantly cup that corner so I can hear it and not wake up the wife.
