In the same boat but with a loaded model. I think Apple is selling even new iPad 3rd Gens as refurb to move them, instead of marking them down and leaving them on the regular site. Regardless, with so much stock left of the 3rd Gens being marked down it is impossible to sell a used one at a reasonable price. So much for trying to sell before the new one is released as there was really no way to anticipate this early release...

Yup, 32GB retail is 599

I looked over completed listings on ebay and you'll be lucky to get 450 all of them are going for about 430 440. So it looks like instead of usually getting almost 500 or more its near 400 sucks

Im wondering if the resale value will plummet further?

I'm more than pretty excited about upgrading from an iPad 1 (and also and FINALLY having an iPad mini en route). It's just that there are still other considerations in my life, like trying to find enough sunny days between here and Thanksgiving to get my storm windows re-caulked and painted. There's no app for that, apparently! and Hurricane Sandy's fetching something I didn't order, that's for sure.

My order status on the Apple website says mine delivers on 11/26. I ordered a black 16gb ATT.

I have seen some postings saying 11/23 but mostly 11/26.

I just checked and mine says 11/26 too. Thanks for the heads up!

It feels so far away....

Is there some kind of "New Orleans Funeral" going on here for iPad3 owners? I'm just hoping the subdued atmosphere on the forum will pick up when people get their hands on the iPad4.

I hope the iPad4 party here will start soon. iPad3 owners see you at the iPad5 party!:D
Apple has entered a "New Era". With the less charismatic & more realistic Tim Cook at the helm, the overblown hype is fading. "Magical" products are now sitting in the harsh light of day.

The parties of the past are just that... in the past.

Without someone to whip the fans into a frenzy, Apple is becoming more well balanced. It will be interesting to witness the impact on Apple going forward. With great momentum & what the industry insiders refer to as "Customer Lock In" Apples lead will take years to dissipate.

I find nothing to be exciting about the iPad 4. That doesnt mean its bad, but it's been a long time since Apple has felt like an "exciting" company.

Thats why I predict 2013 to be a year where Apple really blows our minds. They wouldnt clear the deck so quickly in Q4 if they didn't have something for the consumers/shareholders/media to focus on for 2013 so they've got to have some big secret weapon to unveil... hopefully

Apple and secret are two words that do not go well together anymore. They haven't had much of a secret for the last two years concerning idevices. At least that is what it seems.

I am happy with my iPad 3 at the moment. When the iPad mini's power and hardware match my iPad 3 or exceed it I will by it then.

Excuse me, I need to buy the new $499 ipad, I will also need to purchase another Applecare + policy which I had on my ipad 3 so I am looking at a cost of close to $300 to upgrade.

ipad 3 is a discontinued product just like the ipad 1, I think assuming that we'll get anything in the way of software updates is foolish, assuming we'll get another 1.5 years of software updates is a pipe dream. They'll probably issue one limited update like they did with ios 6 on the ipad 2, then discontinue updates altogether.

The stage has already been set, Apple very clearly wants to get rid of this device as quickly as possible, to remove all mention of it from their website as if it never existed. They'll stop supporting ipad 3 with blinding speed in order to force gun shy ipad 3 owners into upgrading.

LOL. Relax! When a new iPod or Mac with refreshed internals come out, they also remove all mention of it on their website. Does that mean that a MacBook Pro from 2011 is garbage? Last I checked it runs OS X Mountain Lion just as well as a 2012 MacBook Pro. You got people chugging along with 2009 iMacs!

Does the new 7th gen iPod nano mean that the 4th gen iPod nano no longer plays music? I see people on the subway and gym all the time using older nanos. I even saw a 2nd gen the other day! You're being a teeny bit sensitive. Just because they no longer mention an older model on the front page of their website (ya think?) doesn't mean it will stop working.

My advice to you is not to spend $300 to upgrade to the iPad 4 and just use your 3 until the 5 comes out (most likely a thinner and lighter model with chamfered edges like the mini). Be honest, if the Apple event never happened last week, you'd be using your 3 just as happily as you did 2 months ago. It is just in your head that the 3 suddenly works like crap all of a sudden. And the funny thing is that it isn't because Apple says the older model now sucks, it's because they make the newer model seem so awesome!

I've had every generation of iPhone and every generation of iPad, but I am skipping the 4th generation. I've never experienced any lag on my 3rd generation iPad. So the faster processor isn't a draw for me, and I couldn't care less about the new lightning connector.

I don't understand it. Usually when a new iPad is introduced there is a lot of talk about having one on the way, and of course what new tech it has.

I have to admit I was happy to see the iPad Mini introduced, but soon realized the iPad4 was a far better replacement for my iPad2 than the iPad Mini. Size matters:)

Having said that I do understand that many probably wouldn't be happy with a 7 month upgrade from the 3 to the 4. But having kept the iPad2 when the iPad3 was introduced just shows me we are all just on different buying cycles dependent on need and of course $$$$. Eventually most people will upgrade. In my case my kids love to get the hand-me-downs for both iPhones and iPads.

I hope the iPad4 party here will start soon. iPad3 owners see you at the iPad5 party!:D

No party b/c iPad 4 is not a big deal. A6X, Lightning, and FaceTime HD. That's all that changed for American buyers. It's really not worthy of being called a 4th gen in my opinion. Not thinner, not lighter, not a more squared off design. It's an iPad 3 with a new proc and a new connector. I mean it's good it got the things it did...but again talking about it like it's an all new iPad is really a little over the top.

I take my device to work every day to use with clients in a setting where the ipad being dropped & broken is always a distinct possibility, insurance is necessary.

I have my ipad with Applecare + on craig's list so far the top offer has been $250 but only if I also throw in my leather case, so that's what being a "savvy seller" will get me.

And yes, I knew a new ipad would be coming, probably in March, not Oct, a big difference, I'm in the exact same position as an ipad 1 owner, my device has been discontinued. Enjoy your ipad 4, I hope Apple updates again in march and discontinues it.
Guess you never traded in or sold a car?? Or TV, a camera? Get over yourself. Maybe you never noticed but EVERY TIME Apple introduces a product upgrade the old model disappears from the store. You didn't see all iPhone 4S models after the 5 dropped. Multiple whining posts are just sad.

You cant expect for there to be as much excitement 4 generations into a product as there was at initial launch and the 2nd gen launch.

Im not waiting for a new toy that I dont have, Im waiting for an upgraded version of the one I already own. That excitement behind my preorder for the 4th gen is easier to contain than it was for the 2nd gen.

I'm not a "spoiled child" I have my iPad 3 on Craig's list, the top offer I've gotten so far is for $250 but only if I include my leather case, several have responded offering amounts as low as $200 "cash money" these potential buyers mention that they know thy can buy a refurb from Apple for $379.. One low baller even threatened to flag my listing. Besides, even if I was paid $300 for this embarrassing device that doesn't exist anymore I'll still have to fork over another few hundred to replace it with the "new iPad" won't I?

Yeah. You're not a spoiled child, you're acting a spoiled *brat*.

Seriously. Chill out. I got $550 for my iPad 3 two days after the event. The guy I sold it to knew not only about the new iPads, but also the refurbs. Most people think refurb = broken, so they ignore it. As far as he was concerned, Apple was just trying to get money by getting people to go to the new dock connector.

You don't *need* to fork over anything. There's no loaded gun to your head forcing you to update, and the iPad 3 will still be totally functional for another couple years minimum. You're just upset that you don't have the latest gadget, so you're throwing a tantrum.

While this post seems harsh, I'm not a total jerk. Some tips for selling on Craigslist:

Include the box, charger, and papers. Highlight that it's still covered under Apple's stock warranty, as well as Applecare+. Use terms like "Like New" and "Restored to factory defaults". These are big to buyers.
Have good pics - show the screen is scratch free, the back is scratch free, and the box and accessories. A good, clear shot of the logo, "iPad" and 32GB on the back is a good seller as well.
If I were you, I'd price it at $500 OBO. Be willing to take $450, but no less. Don't include anything but what's in the box.

As for the messages, if someone uses the refurbs as a bartering chip, just reply "Great. Go buy one that has been broken for a discount then. This one isn't a reject or a B-stock".
If someone threatens to flag you because you rejected their lowball offer, dare them to. Challenge them. "Do it then. Flag it. I dare you." Funny thing - Craigslist requires a certain amount of flags for the same reason from different IP addresses to get anything done. One flag from one person will do nothing. And if they spend an hour doing it over and over? Fantastic. You just wasted an hour of their time.

Good luck with the sale. A legit buyer will pay a fair price - it just comes down to finding a legit buyer.

It's tough to have much enthusiasm for a product I won't get. I usually upgrade every cycle, but the surprise release this time killed my plans -- the suddenly low resale value of the 3, and few improvements to the 4, make it unappealing to me. If I were moving up from a 2, I'd be thrilled, of course.

I'm kind of tired of Apple's antics, and I don't want to play the upgrade game with a company like this. I'll probably hold onto the iPad 3 for a year or two, and then migrate to Windows or Android. The Google 10 looks to be better than the iPad, and I'm interested in seeing 300 ppi.

I only use a few apps on a daily basis, so I could see myself with an Android tablet. Windows, judging by the online videos, looks undercooked.

The iPad 3 was an iPad 2 with a retina screen and a faster graphics processor and more memory to support the higher resolution screen (higher resolution output requires more memory and graphics performance to achieve the same performance of a lower resolution device). Due to the higher resolution screen, the iPad 3 is actually slower than the iPad 2 in a number of operations.

The iPad 4 doubles the CPU and graphics performance of the iPad 3 to deliver a product that actually performs like a next-generation device. It is what the iPad 3 should have been, but the technology was not available at the time. In addition, the iPad 4 doubles the Wifi performance of the iPad 3, supporting network throughput of up to 85-95Mbps usable (vs 40-45Mbps usable on the iPad 3) for those with 802.11n networks. The iPad 4 also incorporates new optically-bonded display which improves clarity by reducing internal reflections.

Can you confirm the last statement by giving its source? I would be extremely happy if your statement is true. But so far I did not read this anywhere else... Thanks.

Sorry about that. That was an error on my part, which i corrected about 60s after my post. The new screen is optically bonded, which improves display quality, but there is no word on the use of in-cell touch on the iPad 4.

I am totally stoked! Ordered the 32GB Black WiFi. I had an iPad 1 back in the day and loved it then but had to sell for money for college at the time. I have used relatives iPad 2's and 3's and love the 3. I have had the 4S and the 5 and there is a huge difference in performance on the 5 so I am excited to see those gains on the iPad. Though I do feel the iPad 3 is pretty fast (still faster than the original I had) the speed increase is welcome. Since I have the iPhone 5 it will be nice to have another lightning cable hanging about. I don't have any thirty pin accessories anyways.

Anyways, I am way excited about the iPad 4!

I agree it's what iPad 3 should have been. But that doesn't mean it's all that different for 3

I'm excited but am trying not to think about it because my iPad is about 30 days away -

Well I am excited. iPad 3 was laggy and glitchy. Plus on wifi next to my iphone 5 was slow. So I sold my 3 and excited for my 4.

Friday cannot come soon enough for me!!

Everytime the new product comes out the old one becomes laggy automaticly even though just a month ago was the best fastest tablet on earth then in a few months the ipad 5 will come out and 4 will become laggy glitchy go figure :/

Not true... My iPad 2 is still as smooth as anyone can ask for...

Excuse me but are you the person using my iPad? I took my iPad to the Genius Bar a few times for this very reason. Ran diagnostics and said everything was fine. Yet I could open up a web page faster on my iPhone 4S, MB pro and my iphone 5 and my iPad would just hang there waiting to open page. Restored software, etc. nothing worked. Had to constantly power it down to get pages to open. iPad 3 was under powered with the A5x chip to run the retina display as I never had this issue with my iPad 2.

So unless you were in my home using my iPad and seeing the issues I encountered its really unfair of you to comment unnecessarily on the fact that I am happy to receive my new iPad.
