Indeed, give back our beloved split screen. We need simple split screen when using full screen apps, that’s what people want back
I been down this road… going back and forth. Critics want it the way it was before, they don’t care for the new multitasking system.I keep hearing that it takes “so many more taps”, but I don’t understand how.
For split view, press and hold green button and click left or right. It’s that simple.
I think Apple was always going to incorporate some of the pre-existing multitasking features into the new system. But the feedback probably moved the progress faster than expected. Some executives parent or grandparent were just majorly annoyed by this to get it back so fast.
Or „some“ user are a lot of users.
This is the single reason why i installed the beta but uninstalled 3 days later. I use split screen of iPadOS18 daily. It’s super quick, handy but still allows me to four finger swipe to another app.We need simple split screen when using full screen apps, that’s what people want back
Parent or grandparent? Slide Over is the ultimate power-user feature for people using iPads correctly – IYKYK.Some executives parent or grandparent were just majorly annoyed by this to get it back so fast.

I almost completely agree. Except for my use case, I need the rear camera on my iPad and unlimited data. My MacBook does offering either of those. Could I just use my phone? Sure but the screen is too small to livestream updates from the field to the boardroom and conveniently type on. The iPad solves my needs while keeping me from having to have multiple devices in the field. Thankfully Apple gives us options, we don’t have to turn on all the multitasking windowing to use the iPad unless we want to.Overlapping windows makes zero sense on the iPad.
Let iPad be iPad and let Mac be Mac. This is so stupid.
People who want iPad to be a Mac are insufferable. Just buy a Mac.
I present to you: general discourse (not my take) on Magic Mouse, iCloud 5GB storage, Apple ads in Settings.app and in push notifications, iPhone mini, no third party app stores in USA, Siri + Apple Intelligence.
My iPad identifies as an iMacOverlapping windows makes zero sense on the iPad.

that's not the point. we've added complexity for third party developers and users. not to mention apple wasted over a decade of engineering hours on trying to get multitasking right when those engineering hours could be better spent on useful features for the user. You can choose fullscreen mode and never touch the other windowing modes.
Makes a lot of sense actually. For example I am reviewing a web app build that my devs pushed out,
nope. MacBook Air 13" just as or is literally more portable compared to a Magic Keyboard + iPad Pro 13". Throw in mobile hotspot, you got cellular connectivity with zero extra $/mo. Makes zero sense for iPad to exist for that workflow. To the contrary, overlapping windows is the only thing that makes sense. Some of us do real work on iPads because of their portability and cellular connectivity.
What if you are a MacBook Pro user like 16 inch or a desktop mac user…nope. MacBook Air 13" is literally more portable compared to a Magic Keyboard + iPad Pro 13. Throw in mobile hotspot. Makes zero sense for iPad to exist for that workflow.
Objectively makes zero sense. People who think they're doing real work better than a Mac on an iPad are kidding themselves.Makes zero sense for /you/.
Let people use the iPad the way they want
To use Slide Over in iPadOS 26.1, you'll need to tap on the green icon of an app's window to open up the window sizing controls. From there, you can tap on the "Enter Slide Over" button.
false analogyJust like people who bought a Mac to be an Apple II back in the late 1980s. The Mac was just a toy, where as DOS and Apple II were the real computers.
Except us users who don't use the feature that Apple has spent over a decade of engineering hours on to attempt to get it right miss out on value that would have been generated had they not attempt to implement this useless feature. So everyone wins.
People who care how others use their tech are insufferable. Buy what you want
