I realize 5G is coming next year. But that's not something I'm going to demand so early in its life cycle. I never download anything over LTE now. I'm always connected to wifi. I have a XS Max but I think I'm dropping back down to the 11 Pro 5.8 model, hopefully in green. I think I prefer the smaller size. And for whatever reason, my Max has been the buggiest iPhone I've ever had. I've dealt with freezing and on numerous occasions, the screen goes blank and the phone shuts off. I hope the 11 Pro will act better.

Another user here with an iPhone 6 running iOS 9 and not upgrading- again.
This is getting wearisome. Going on 5 years now and nothing seems worth it. Certainly not these XSS models for 2019. I guess I'll wait until my phone tanks.

Agree. Phones really don’t need to be updated much anymore. They are easily fine for 3 to 4 years
Im still on iPhone 6. iPhones were never needed to be updated every year. People are spoilt though so no reasoning there. :)
I might upgrade this year though as even iOS is no longer supported but will wait and see what they come up with. These prices are insane. I literally bought iPhone 6 for 1/2 price. Crazy

i didn't move to Apple until the 6 plus was released and have updated to every single phone except the XR. For some reason the XI or 11 just doesn't interest me. I mean, ill still watch the event but doubt anything that gets announced will change my mind.

Apple yesterday invited the media to a special event on Tuesday, September 10 at the Steve Jobs Theater, where it is widely expected to unveil three new iPhones alongside an Apple Watch refresh and other announcements.

A tipster who claims to work at a major carrier has since provided MacRumors with internal communication that suggests the rumored iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro models will be available to pre-order Friday, September 13 ahead of deliveries to customers and in-store availability starting Friday, September 20.

MacRumors has received similar tips echoing these dates in recent weeks, so there is a good chance they are accurate.

iPhone pre-orders have begun two to three days after Apple's event for years now, followed by availability a week later, so these dates are hardly a surprise but good to know nevertheless. Unlike the iPhone X in November 2017 and the iPhone XR in October 2018, however, all three 2019 iPhones are expected to launch simultaneously.

The tipster requested anonymity and asked us not to share the screenshots of the internal communication.

Let's wait for a better battery. Need something like Nokia (old days)

I disagree. It's not exciting for those who want something new every year, but I've still got an iPhone 6, which will not be supported on iOS 13, so I need to upgrade now.

Why? What would you be missing?

Would you come down with PTSD and become at risk to Go Postal because you didn't have iOS 13 on your phone?

I've had every new iPhone every year since the iPhone 3G existed. This is the first time I don't feel the need to upgrade. My Xs is almost perfect. Waiting for the next big iPhone change. :)
An you always take that decisión 10 days before the launch ???

You're suggesting Apple should forgo tens of billions of dollars in revenue from people who do upgrade every year? Next.

If that’s the case, let’s just switch to a six-monthly cycle! Yay money!

What I’m saying is, for the sake of the innovation they keep talking about, why not take a little longer to release a product of substance rather than just beating a dead horse year after year?

I'm waiting for the rumored 7 camera system with VR-UltraReality /3D, laser focus, AR enhanced live reality, 8K video in iPhone XII MAX Pro Plus
(ok, I have no idea what I'm talking about :p)

BUT..I do expect the 11S, 12 rumors to start up by Sept 25-30??

That will be 3999.99 please

The only screen ratio I would accept is either 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9. Anything beyond 16:9 is ugly and weird and any new phone with that weird and ugly screen ratio will not replace my SE

I would be in the market for one reason and one reason only, getting rid of the trash Intel modem in the Xs and Xs Max.

This is becoming too repetitive. Literally the same noise at the same time every year.

Sadly, this is probably what it will look like a few years from now. Zero surprise and delight.

I was perfectly contended with the X. However, I recently upgraded to the XS ( bought from a MR member ) because I needed dual-sim functionality. I completely agree with folks that smartphones have ( at least apparently ) reached maturity. I would still like to see software optimization for existing hardware and new features ( true multitasking, split screen etc ) and improved battery.

It’s just that a 5G version is coming out next year, seriously, only iPhone 6s and earlier should be really considering this upgrade. But, if you have the money I guess.

Like most of you I'm not really excited about this years model. But I have a question/confusion. Last year I joined Apples upgrade program for the first time. So I'm about half way through the 24 payments. But looking online it's pretty vague about what happens if you choose not to trade in at the end of the first year. I assume if I don't, and make all 24 payments, I own the phone. So if I get the 2020 model, I shouldn't have to trade in the 2018 one right? Because I will have already made all 24 payments. Also, when I go into the About setting on the phone it says my AppleCare+ will expire in September 2019 (one year from purchase). But the phone has AppleCare+ by being in the upgrade plan. So if I choose not to upgrade right away, and say in November it has a problem, I'm screwed? Doesn't seem right. They advertise that it comes with AppleCare+, which is supposed to be two years.

For the first time in forever, my wife made a tech request: She asked to have my iPhone X.

Being the loving husband, who am I to refuse this request in light on the event in 11 days?

So September 20th will be great. If the phone isn't compelling though, I'll just grab the XS.

My SE will be one year old when these are announced. Still not interested in the new phones.

People complain about marginal improvements, but they add up. The XS was better than the X in almost every way.

Most people buy a new phone when they lose theirs or break it beyond repair. Whatever’s available sale at the time, that’s what they have to choose from. There are a billion+ iPhones in the installed base, and they all need new phones at various times.

With people keeping phones three, four and even five years, there’s always going to be around a couple hundred million customers who need a new phone in any given year. Of course, there are also some who buy every year, and that wouldn’t happen with a two year cycle.

Also, a one year cycle means you’re always able to get a reasonably recent model, even if you end up needing to buy in June or July. Can you imagine sales volume in the last three or even six months of a 24 month cycle? Sales would fall off a cliff.
