For sure. I actually have the Xs max and I’m switching to a lighter device. I was just trying to make a humorous point about how some people like myself just find it heavy. Trying to lighten the mood i this thread lol.
Apologies. I missed the humour there.

Personally I like the battery life of the new max. If it's slightly heavier, I'm more than willing to carry around the extra weight.

I'd be interested to see if all the prima donnas complaining about the weight can objectively tell the difference in weight.

I'd guess not. The difference in weight is slightly more than a tablespoon of water. Get over it.

If you don't like the weight, just get a smaller phone. Not rocket science.

One day I borrowed my friend’s iPhone 7 Plus , and amazingly found how light it is when compared with iPhone XS Max. For me, iPhone XS Max is already quite heavy. I don’t wish iPhone is becoming heavier over years.

Wow the Apple apologists amongst us are particularly annoying in this thread. As others have pointed out, Samsung “solved this”, as have Huawei. Their phones don’t weigh more year on year despite having much larger batteries, more cameras and so on.

In fact the S10+ got about 22g lighter than the S9+.

Just throwing it out there... maybe not everything Apple does is perfect and maybe they make weird and confusing usability trade offs all the time?

Bigger battery, extra camera module. Want more stuff packed in, it's not weightless to add.

This is what I don’t get. Year on year people are asking for a bigger battery over and over. Now they’ve got a bigger battery, how the hell else did they think Apple was going to accomplish this? I for one and more than happy to have a negligible weight addition for a very tangible battery addition.

If that makes it to heavy for you then you have a great many more problems than a heavy smartphone.
How does this mean these people (myself included) have problems because a phone is becoming increasingly heavy? So because we criticize the fact iPhones weigh more now, we have more problems? Whats your cut off for a phone being too heavy and why is it beyond your comprehension that for a lot of people apple has already surpassed that threshold? The rationalizing is off the charts on this forum. Im not saying don't buy the phone if you want, but let's not act like the increasing weight isn't noticeable. It's very noticeable.

Same for me. I had a 7+ but have had the XS Max for a while now. I picked up my coworker's 7+ recently and completely forgot how light iPhones used to be. The weight differences are noticeable

Steel is heavier than aluminum.

No some of us have a brain and can Google that steel is 2.5-3 times heavier than aluminum. Better stronger materials=heavier.

Its a material choice, nothing to do with something any company can or cannot figure out

I admit, the weight of larger phones is annoying in the pocket, but that’s the trade-off sometimes to having a larger device that includes so much technology incorporating a larger battery and of course glass with stainless steel bands. I mean, I prefer a larger display, but if somebody wants the ‘best and newest’ iPhones, then obviously they have to opt for the phone that’s also one of the heaviest.

This is obviously a matter of preference as many have said here. I've already(along with others) been discussing this in another thread where people have decided to go from a XS Max to a pro this year.

The way to look at this is % increase, not just throwing around "oh whats a few grams" difference. The phones have been continuously getting heavier, and some don't like it including myself. To put things in perspective, We are up ~30% in weight now from the 6 plus phone. From last year's XS Max to the the pro plus alone, we are up ~8.5% in weight. You will certainly feel it. Many people who are in offices or have access to charging etc, don't need this type of crazy battery life. Is it nice to have? Yes, obviously. But if it's at the cost of the phone being bulkier, then I'll pass. It's not too different than saying everybody should use one of those bulky battery cases to get extra battery life and just deal with the extra size. Some people love those so they can get through days of usage, and some wouldn't be caught dead with them.

Every time you add weight to the phone- it becomes harder to use one handed or laying down/sideways. The balance in your hand just changes, and yes I get the new materials do this. I immediately noticed this when I got my XS max. To me this year the solution is to try the iphone pro model and go down in size. Since there is 0 difference in internals or camera, I'm willing to go back to the smaller size especially now that the smaller phone will now get similar battery life to the old Plus/Max models. I did enjoy having a larger screen, but I just don't want another 8+ % weight on my phone which I felt was already maxing out what I felt was comfortable. You could argue that Apple shouldn't really be advertising this as a "feature" upgrade, as almost any company out there could increase the weight of their phones (and this model is actually increased in all dimensions slightly) by making them more bulky so they can stuff a bigger battery in. I'm willing to bet they bring the weight back down next year at which point I'll consider going back to a bigger screen.

I've been able to easily hold every iPhone I've ever had in 1 hand. I expect this year's phone to be the same.

Never once have I whinged about the big bad brick in my pocket, talk about the epitome of first world problems. I never even think about the weight when it's in my pocket, but I do like the substantial feel in my hand. I get disappointed if I see it sheds weight, which thankfully, it hasn't since the 6.

I've bought and used a large variety of phones over the years...and there hasn't been a single time where I ever gave a crap about the weight of the phone. The differences are so modest that you quickly adjust anyway.

Now I could understand people complaining about this.

Just checking in so I can report out. Did we get to the right answer...are people allowed to be annoyed by the extra weight or is that wrong?

Lol, I was going to suggest a satchel but everyone beat me to it.

But hey, when phones were thin and light we criticized Jony Ive for the thin and light over battery life. Now that we have better battery life, we whine about weight.

Can’t have both folks.

Satchels are a good option, but I’ll say it again. We need those harmonica neck holders. They don’t just look cool you know...

Clearly we need a harmonica iPhone case!

I suspect I’m not the only person whose had their XS Max slip out of hand and smack their face while in bed.

11 Pro Max will be a formidable beast.

Ha. I can see this, but I charge my phone up at night.

Try having your iPP hit you on the bridge of your nose because you grip slips due to falling asleep while reading in bed. Ouch.
